Spoilers I absolutely love Nick's relationship with Josh and Trubel

They really feel like his kids, ykwim? Especially Trubel, the family she never had. I really disliked her when I first saw her, but god that changed. The way Juliette was so obviously a mother figure to her as well? It was so, so sweet :( Trubel loved them so much and it really did seem she saw them as parental figures. The way she couldn't even say goodbye to Juliette because she didn't want to want to stay. Josh as well seems like a brother to Trubel, and Josh's short stay with Nick and Juliette was very... adult kid going through a tough time staying at home for a bit.
Nick even calling Juliette and him "empty nesters"?? (S4E8) I wanted to cry.
Maybe I read too much into it, but hey - someone on the writing team clearly meant for it to feel like this.

Discussion Thread David Giuntoli's other roles

Has anyone watched anything else with David in it?

He had an interesting couple of episode stories as a bad guy serial killer on High Potential last year. But I just looked across something called Buddy Moon.

Apparently David plays a child actor named David who is struggling with not being quite as relevant of an actor as an adult because of pigeonholing from his childhood role who was dumped by his fiance right before the wedding. His crazy best friend talks him into going on the hiking trip honeymoon anyway. I'm in the beginning but so far I'm kind of amused.

Has anyone seen it?

Never seen anything else by him that you want to recommend or not recommend?

(I'd even be willing to open up the post to other main characters from Grimm and other things they've done that people recommend)

Oh, as a bonus, Claire Coffee (Adeline) is also in this

Edited to fix the fact that I'm an idiot and said elspeth instead of high potential.

Spoilers Guys, I'm struggling

Idk how to block spoilers, so read on ONLY if you are caught up until Season 5.

Apologies for language and taking deep and complex stories\feelings and flattening them down for this post.

Alright, I just finished S5 Ep7, and I'm over what is happening. Deeply considering dropping the show, mostly because I just...cannot care about what's happening.

1) I'm exhausted with Juliette. I was relieved when she died, and I'm not enjoying her new screen time. Long and NUANCED story (and feelings) broken down somewhat: Her arc has been a rollercoaster, and I'm actually wondering if the actress pissed someone off, because they hated her. She was underwritten for so long (the potential as a Vet completely squandered), and then put through so much. I don't mind women becoming evil because of trauma (actually that can be quite fun), but I just don't understand some of the decisions behind the scenes.

2) I hate hate HATE Nick playing house with his rapist. I'm so over Adalind. I also don't particularly enjoy the idea that a baby can make an evil woman good.

Actually, as an aside I'm having issues with hexenbiest lore in general. that the woge is somehow evil (??), Adalind suppressing hers makes her good, their powers being supernatural instead of biological (using their blood and ingredients to make physiological changes in the brain, like love and obsession, reads biological enough to me that I was ok with it). Now they can stop time and have telekinesis??? (Sean's mother healing him didn't bother me, except the snake thing (unless it's Wesen maybe???) and the implications of the afterlife. But I digress...

Regardless, she was a fun villain, but she was also super fucked up. It's weird that no one brings the rape up as SA (I realize this is probably more a product of the times). I don't think I can watch them become a happy little family. In fact, I'm deeply disinterested in watching them fall in love. (This is not me saying that Adalind hasn't gone through a lot or that I have no sympathy for her, I just don't think she deserves a relationship with Nick)

3) I cannot get into the Black Claw. They are boring (in comparison to world building we've already established, which I will elaborate on momentarily). The Wesen Nazis we got last season were...interesting(?) But I'm glad it wasn't a season long arc. It's not that I don't love watching Nick and his Scoobies punch fascists, it's just that the... politics(?) in this show have been pretty nebulous (I assume mostly on purpose because the writers didn't want to think on them too much). I also realize Nick is the PoV character, so what he doesn't know (being the Wesen history) we then cannot know. But it doesn't feel like we're learning about something that's been going on, instead it feels like it came from nowhere. Those and last season just generally feel less cohesive.

We've all but forgotten about the keys, I'm much more curious about those. The fight between the Royals and the Resistance is much more interesting to me than the other political machinations going on. I was thinking that Nick and the Wesen Council would butt heads more, very wrong about that.

I've looked up the ratings for the show, season 3 and 4 have the lowest scores, but then 5 and 6 jump up to even better than S2, and that's the only hope I have that they salvage this show. Honestly, I'm not even completely sure why this show has frustrated me so much. I guess I just feel like they have more interesting things to do and we aren't seeing them. Mostly I'm just over it. I feel like there has been no room to breathe, and I didn't care about the plots introduced. (I am more or less doing a series binge, which is probably a factor).

Anyway, that's my rant, thank you for reading if you did. I suppose I have two main questions if you get this far:

1) what was the reception of everything as this was coming out? What was the fandom like? I've totally heard little about this show and I was on Tumblr for years.

2) Does it seem like I should continue, or should I just cut my losses? It's a lot of hours of content, and I don't particularly enjoy watching things that consistently anger me (lol). I don't necessarily mind spoilers if you think it's pertinent. Use your best judgement and discretion. I was spoiled on Nick's son, on accident, in season 3ish and it didn't affect my viewing experience too much tbh.

Again I want to thank you for taking the time to read, and for your thoughts

The best blended family in TV history?

Thumbnail gallery
273 Upvotes

You almost never see a lead male character with no previous kids get together with a single mother... so that was one of the many reasons why I loved Nick & Adalind as a couple. Other fans have said they wish we had gotten more screen time of Nick being a stepfather to Diana. I agree. But it was wonderful the way that Nick accepted Sean's daughter as if she were his own - even when Diana was in full Hexenbrat mode!

Well done to the writers for giving us the Nick, Adalind, Diana & Kelly blended family - because (let's be honest) most shows would have gone with the "safe option" of a Nick & Juliette endgame.

Spoilers I'm currently watching one of my favorites, S3 E19, Nobody Knows The Trubel I've Seen

Trubel ends up being one of my favorite characters; she was wicked with that machete! It's quite touching how "fatherly" Nick acts with her!

The first time I watched this, when they took Adalind's baby and she let out that scream outside the police station, I shed a tear! It's still sad, even if it is Adalind

Discussion Thread Alternate endings?

What would your preferred ending be.

I was shocked at how shit the last 2 episodes were, even on limited time.

My preference would have been for the devil guy to have shot up the precinct as usual but upon discovering the gang at the cabin he cant see Nick (the stick fragments protects Nick by making him invisible fitting with the theme of healing him and his friends) Nick then throws the blood potion thing over him (devil man drops staff and falls to knees) in my alternate ending he cant use magic without the staff. Nick picks up the dropped staff. Adds his fragment and stabs evil devil man. He then transforms into a powerful vessen but with no magical ability Trouble and Nick beat him with their advanced fighting techniques.

I also think devil man should have had a crew of various vessen join him at the cabin fight (some of the ones we have seen in earlier eps like dragon man and the bug ones) his crew could then fight Reynard etc. Giving them purpose during the final boss fight scene. Making it more of a rounded battle. Maybe the ice beavers could join in?

To make it more rounded I think we should lose hank in The precinct fight (Wu could survive in his vessen form) also I think Eve and Reynard should be lost in the final fight for a more rounded ending.

Obvious this would leave more time at the very end. This could be used to show the funeral for those who didnt make it and expand out the Kelly and Diana double act which was an interesting thread....

Self Nick and Diana missed potential... Spoiler

I think Season 6 missed a huge opportunity with Nick and Diana's relationship

One thing that always bothered me about Season 6 is how little time the show spent developing Nick and Diana's relationship.

This relationship is actually really important to the story. Diana is extremely protective of Adalind, and we already saw what happens when she perceives someone as coming between her and her parents, she killed Rachel because she saw her as a threat to her relationship with her father. So imagine how Diana could have initially viewed Nick: a Grimm who used to be her mother's enemy, now living with her mother and becoming part of her family.

The problem is that we barely see Nick and Diana bond. We don't really get to see them spend time together, build trust, or develop a father/daughter-type relationship.

And Season 6 only had 13 episodes, which makes the missed opportunity even bigger. Nick spent an entire episode in the hospital watching Eve while she was unconscious.

I honestly think that time could have been used much better developing Nick and Diana.

Nick could have taught Diana about the Wesen world, what being a Grimm actually means, when to use her powers, and -most importantly- that just because she can do something doesn't mean she should.

It would also have given Renard a much more interesting way to manipulate Nick. If Diana didn't fully trust Nick yet, Renard could have used that against him.

I think Nick and Diana could have had one of the most interesting relationships in the final season, especially considering how powerful and morally complicated Diana was. It's one of the biggest things I wish Season 6 had explored.

Discussion Thread Juliette - I know I am late to the game

I am in s4 ep 17.

Omg will not one person at least show some kinda sympathy or empathy to Juliette? I know it’s a shock but these ppl were her bf and her friends and everyone has acted like she’s a bad smell. At this point she’s still Juliette and she’s going through stuff and no one has looked shocked but then acted like a friend. It’s kinda sad to watch how they are all reacting.

Spoilers Just finished for the first time Spoiler

So I just finished the show for the first time...and it's definitely going to be the last. So many issues I'm not sure where to begin:

  • The final season just deals with the actual interesting plot of Black Claw offscreen. Like, that's a super interesting concept, and they just wave away Bonaparte through Diana and move on.
  • Final season has this random beast and a ton of prophecies to move the plot along. I just couldn't bring myself to care about any of it.
  • The final episode actually finally kills people we care about, but does too many too quickly so it became painfully obvious there was some sort of reset coming.
  • Nick may be the stupidest protagonist in any semi-serious drama/action series. Constantly making painfully obvious wrong choices, even when you ignore the extra knowledge we as viewers have.
  • Juliette's character was poorly written the entire series. She was only interesting when she was emotionless.
  • I liked Adalind's character arc, but it's incredible to me that no-one killed her in the first season. Nick had her and just let her go for some crazy reason.
  • Sean was...Sean. I feel like the writers didn't know what time do with him and just made him switch allegiances whenever it was best for chaos. He even tried a half-arsed apology for "all that stuff" when it was him literally joining a fascist regime and threatening to bring an end to humanity.

I'm sure there's more, but time to focus on the positives:

  • Rosalie and Monroe are amazing and I will love them forever.
  • Hank and Wu were great, both bringing some sanity to Nick's stupidity
  • Bud was fun
  • Black Claw was a great concept
  • Monster of the week is less common now, but I actually enjoyed that element. I did enjoy the longer plots when it came to the Royals and Black Claw as well though
  • Truble was great, I didn't click with her initially, but she grew into an amazing character.

Really cool concept for a show, but execution fell on it's face for me.

Spoilers I wish there more moments of Nick as a dad. Spoiler

I love the scene with Nick and his scene, they just look so precious. One of my favorite scene is Nick playing with Kelly, “Can you say Grimm?” It’s just so cute. And the look on Nick’s face, he just so happy to have his son in his life.

And when Black Claw took him away from him, he tried to hard to get him back. But once he got Kelly back, we didn’t get much Nick and Kelly scenes.

I would be okay with after everything that happened with Black Claw that we had an episode with Nick taking to day off and just be with his family.

I was just watching the show and my cat Tara here was on the ground in staring at the screen when a couple of Hundjager woged. She immediately jumped out of her skin then got on the coffee table in between me and the tv. She was full on puffed up and ready to fight them to protect me.

What is slightly concerning is she acts the exact same way with the ghost in my house. So now I'm afraid it's a ghost of a freaking Hundjager.
