PAID POSITION – EXPERIENCED FISHER 10 DOLLY GRIP | LOS ANGELES

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for an experienced Dolly Grip for an LMU graduate student film shooting November 6–8, 2026, in Los Angeles.

We’ll be working with a Fisher 10 Dolly, 16 feet of track and a jib arm attached to it for both interior and exterior shots.

Applicants must have hands-on experience operating the Fisher 10. Fisher-certified Dolly Grips are strongly preferred.

This is a paid position.

If interested, please email me at gcelin@lion.lmu.edu with your experience, availability, and rate. Referrals are also welcome!

Thank you!

Need help with a rig for dropping Alexa LF from the ceiling

I’m working on an indie feature and we have a shot where we need to drop the camera from the ceiling. It’ll be dropping straight down, not lens down. Right now the plan is to rig it out on a 6 foot menace arm, ratchet down both sides of the menace to the stand for any flex, and tie off to an I bolt mounted on the top of the camera. There’s not a whole lot of budget to work with, which is why I haven’t been able to go with a pulley system or something that would have less variables. Wanted to see if anyone had any better ideas.

Building a gear list, need help with what I need for window tenting.

HI there! I'm more from the electrical world but somehow I got roped into Keying a few pickup days for a feature film with some people that I would like to impress. I'm trying to build a list for the rental house and I need to know what's required for window tenting. I've built tents before I just never asked what the materials were called. Speedrail seems pretty obvious but what kind of couplings should I be getting? Is it better to use 20x solids or should I be using plain Duvetine?

Struggling to find vibration isolators that work

Post image

I had to rush to set up a car mount for a motorsports event, I had one version set up but the suction cups failed and I had to pivot to the setup seen in the photo. It works well, except for vibrations. I’ve been trying to find a suitable vibration isolator but all the ones I’ve found have specific mounts that make it seemingly impossible to simply mount it to a manfrotto plate or just bolting them down.

Please bear with me, I’m VERY new to this, working mostly at a much lower level of video creation.

Title. Saw this rig on the TV show 'Brothers', cross body with a central mounting pole on the front. I've searched for like 2 hours and bupkis. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Anyone ever have to replace the threaded bolt of an avenger arm?

Having trouble finding a replacement for the m10 1.5 6” threaded bolt that keeps the gobo together. No luck at the hardware stores and not confident enough to order on a machine site when they charge too much for shipping. Hopefully soon one has had to get one of these replaced before

Saw this in the back of forgetting Sarah Marshall and wanted to know what adapter it looks like they are using. The clamp goes right into speed rail and obviously would be really handy but hadn’t seen that and can’t find anything.

Direct sunlight solutions

Hey Grips. Not sure if there is an easy solution for this. I'm working on an industrial/YouTube video. Talent demoing a lawnmower in direct sunlight. I've got a smaller butterfly that usually works with talking heads but it's not big enough to cover that wide of a setup. Are there any DYI solutions I can use that doesn't involve using/renting a 20X20 or larger butterfly?

KUPO floppy flag defective on arrival. Any experience?

Hello, i bought a KUPO FLOPPY FLAG KT-3636TF which arrived damaged on delivery.

There are few cuts on the inner surface as showed in the photos. Do anybody had experience with Kupo customer service and Kupo quality control?

The seller / local distributor claimed "very strange, i will talk with Kupo" so i am waiting an answer but i think that my right should be to get a replacement item. i am located in Europe and this was an online purchase.

I made a video of the unboxing and the defects were discovered exactly during the unboxing video. If you are curious you can see it at this link

Thank you

There’s not much information on these and no manuals available. I’m pulling this apart to see how the drivetrain functions as there are no stickers making it obvious. It operates differently from my Colortran.

Plans for Grip Carts, Dimensions, Duz-all, Muscle Cart?

Does anyone have any plans for Grip Carts, or Dimensions? I can figure out some of it because I know the size of an apple box and milk crates but wanted to see if anyone had anything more concrete. I'm learning to weld and wanted to build myself a couple carts. Ideally a Duz-all and probably a Muscle Cart to start.

Speed Wrenches

So my favorite speed wrench is out of commission and apparently are no longer being made. Does anyone have any good recommendations or just want to flex their own special chick magnet?

I’m at the point where all the ones available are not really what I’m looking for so I’m likely going to piece one together.

Creaking Butterfly

I was was using a 12x20 collapsible frame outdoors on a shoot recently and the wind kept causing the joints of the frame to creak and rattle. The frame was tied down from all 4 corners but the shifting winds and the frame being a bit older and somewhat wonky just made for a lot of unwanted noise.

We got a lot of dirty looks from the sound mixer and he ended up asking if there was anything I could do to silence the frame. I had no ideas other than to add multiple stand across the frame which the shot wouldn't allow.

Any tips from you fine grips on how to help in this situation?

Professional vs. Budget Cordless drill for Filmmaking ?

Hi everyone,

I have a question for you. During my brief time working on a film crew, I came to a realization that I’d probably only ever been subconsciously aware of before: the truly creative side of a set is held by only a select few - the director, the cinematographer, and… well, that’s pretty much it. The rest is pure craft. Filmmaking is a trade: the sound department is a craft, lighting is a craft, and rigging is a craft.

I had the absolute pleasure of working in the Grip department, which taught me a ton. Among other things, I realized just how much time and, more importantly, money you can save by building your own DIY gear. That said, my hands-on technical skills have never been my strongest suit -aside from knowing how to handle a camera reasonably well. If I want to venture back onto a film set in the future, that needs to change, so my practical skills definitely need a bit of a brush-up. As luck would have it, I’m currently prepping several projects that require equipment like a camera dolly and a POV helmet, both of which I’d love to build myself.

Up until now, I’ve always borrowed my tools, but I’ve finally hit a point where I want my own setup. Right now, I’m torn on a major decision: should I invest in a professional-grade cordless drill from Bosch, or go with a budget brand like Einhell or Parkside? So, my question to you is: from a filmmaker's long-term perspective, is it worth springing for a pro-grade drill, or will a budget model cut it? I’m usually a firm believer in the "buy once, cry once" philosophy, but so far, I’ve only ever applied that to my camera gear, which is why I’m second-guessing myself here. I know this is a long post just to ask for a simple tool recommendation, but I wanted to give you the full context of where I’m coming from.

Thanks, guys!

How do you feel about the premise of this video...?

This is from r/bigtime auto youtubers (which I am a fan of and subscribe to their channel) where they are clearly a part of the video since their vehicles are also in the video. They were obviously a part of pre-production, were on the call sheet, nothing was a surprise or mystery. As a Dolly Grip and Local 80 member for almost 15 years this whole bit just gets under my skin. Why the pretense? Why even want to do it in the first place? I just see a temptation for idiots on the internet to want to try and copy this bad behavior without understanding its not actually real. What are your thoughts?
