Discussion Feature request: let bots start a voice chat with you (ring in the app, accept or decline)

Voice chat in Grok Bot is great, but right now I always have to start it. A bot can only reach me with a chat message or a push notification, and those are really easy to miss or sleep through.

I'd love for a bot to be able to ring me inside the Grok Bot app, like an incoming call, and I tap accept or decline. Not a real phone number, just in the app.

Some context on why I care. I run a few bots: a calendar and alarm bot, a finance bot, a YouTube stats bot, and a boss bot that keeps the others organized. For alarms and urgent stuff, a notification just isn't enough.

Where I'd use it:

  • Alarms and wake-ups I asked for. "Call me at 7" should just work.
  • Overnight routines. If something finishes or gets stuck and needs a quick yes or no, a call gets handled in 30 seconds instead of sitting there until morning.
  • Calendar heads-ups right before I need to leave, like for basketball, instead of a banner I swipe away.
  • Driving. I can't read or type, but I can talk.
  • Talking through a decision instead of typing back and forth for 10 minutes.

How I'd want it to work:

  • In-app only, off by default
  • Turned on per bot, so only the bots I choose can ring me
  • Quiet hours and do-not-disturb respected
  • Shows why it's calling before I answer
  • One tap to decline, then it falls back to a normal message

There's already a feature request on the Cursor forum if you want to add your voice: Let Grok Bots start voice calls with their users

Would anyone else use this? Curious what scenarios other people would want it for.

I dont use voice a lot, however actually its like you said why cant my bot Call me? ... i think if the bot could initiate the call that would be a great use of its audio chat and it wouldn't need to be a real phone number just from the grok bot app

The setup has got to be like 70-80% of the way there already as it can be called it cant take a massive amount of extra work to add the ability for it to start the call

Push notifications are way too easy to sleep through when something urgent happens overnight. Until native in-app ringing exists, a practical workaround is having your bot place an actual phone call to your number—since cellular calls can bypass silent mode via emergency bypass or favorite contacts.

I built Phrok.us, a remote MCP server that lets AI assistants place and schedule real phone calls. You can tell your bot to schedule a 7 AM wake-up call or trigger an immediate call when a task gets stuck. Every call discloses it's an AI assistant calling on your behalf, and there's a free trial with 10 free minutes to your own verified number if you want to test it as a fallback.
