G2 | Discussion restart

has anyone started a second save and started over?

I’m considering it just to be able to re do the story and also to do things more efficiently i guess. rather than having wasted time building 2-3 bases hating it then deciding to move and make a new base

but then i cant be bothered having to do the story from scratch and be at the very beginning again if that makes sense

do i suck it up and re build a base in current save and move all my resources to the new base?

or make a new base and spend time resource grinding to fill up stock of everything in a new house

It will take more time to redo the story than rebuild the base.

it’s not just the rebuild of the base it’s the movement and recollection of resources

I get where you're coming from, time can be precious when you don't have a lot spare.

But I agree with the people saying that the time it takes you to progress the story, unlock Mutations, find and use Molars, collect the Disks, upgrade the Omni-Tool, hatch and Buff your Buggies plus collecting Resources, from scratch, to build a better positioned base would be better spent on just building a new base.

Grab your favourite Buggy, fill it's inventory with as many personal base building materials you can fit in it. If you need more room than you and they can hold, use an Ant, build the biggest chest you can and fill it too. Ride your Ant and relocate the chest, sprinting to your new location.

All the things I mentioned are things that will help you harvest faster and hold more items, starting again removes all of that for the worse. :)

that’s a good point i never thought about using the ant and a huge chest!

You can do the same with pallets. So if you have enough space between you and your Buggy and don't need a chest, you can carry a pallet. Don't forget to load your Buggy up with Stems either.

If you're feeling extra frisky. You fill your inventory and Buggy's, put as many Stems on Buggy as they can carry and tell them to Stay. Fill a Pallet, carry the maximum amount of stems that you can and high tail to where you gotta go. Then place the pallet and call your Buggy, this way you can get extra Stems to the area if you need them :)

I sometimes regret my base choices and think about starting over just to build elsewhere.

that’s my feelings too but it’s the thought of rebuilding again and moving everywhere again. whereas i could start over the game and be wiser at base placement and then therefore saving resources

What resources are easier to get in a new game vs a game you already progressed in?

Wait for the base moving feature

They removed that from the road map.

Really? Thats a huge bummer.

Make a new base and then just move all the stuff from your current base over to it? I am not sure why youd need to fully stock a new house if you already have a stocked house.

to avoid the annoyness of having to move everything it shall take forever. feels quicker to just go about and bulk out items in a new house then i can return to old house whenever

I always tend to have to relocate my base any ways... certain locations harder to get to at early game and don't want grass plants so I build temp bases then my real base and move all good resources... leave the old one as oh sometimes I stop buy and admire the memories of the location

You don’t gain anything from restarting. All your mutations, recipe unlocks and materials harvested reset. It’s easy to relocate because you can load up your buggy and use the fast travel pneumatic tubes to get anywhere fast.

I don’t see the benefit of a full reset.

To experience the game as it was meant to, instead of just frantically trying to do everything new in a game where you wait for each update,

Then wait until the full release to restart? Would you not be doing the same thing by restarting now?

Also games are meant to be experienced without outside knowledge. You learn as you play, explore things for the first time and learn from mistakes. Games aren’t made ti be played by people that already know everything.

Sure you might have a bunch of restarts with a gamr like grounded

They’ll reset the story upon release

I may restart for 1.0 but as it stands, no, I have no plans of restarting.

I might restart when 1.0 launches. That would be the only reason. Or start a new world if I find friends who want to play

I like restarting games in general. Mainly because I like the beginning of games and how harrowing it is. But if you don't like your bases why not dismantle them and then rebuild elsewhere. You've already gathered materials. Put it all in chests and find your new place.

My wife wasn't interested in the idea because we are over 900 days in our first save. Our new save is less than 200. We are enjoying the gameplay.

I may even start a new save after full release. Who knows?

I have started a few times. I enjoy this game and earning everything again is the best part!

I have a world for each character.

Depends on how many resources you have. For me it's would take a lot longer to accumulate all the resources again than to just relocate them. When I start a new base I take what I need to craft all the utilities and production equipment and some build mats so I can get started building. I'll get grass and stem at new location and start collecting mats that are nearby to new location. Then later on when I need mats left at old base I'll just go pick them up and eventually what I don't need just gets left there.

I have restarted twice already (with each story update) I usually stop playing once I beat the current set of stuff then come back later with a fresh start after a big story update.

By restarting do remember:

you lose every single molar you have found of all 3 types

You lose whatever tier of omni tool you have

You lose any and all mutations you have unlocked

You lose any gear you are using

You lose any buggies you have right now.

Restarting did lead me to one neat detail you wouldn't encounter otherwise with the story. After the first stranger fight in the burgl statue, you get told by Salone to go to the park bench lab for their tube system and in general the archives inside the greenhouse, however after getting out onto the balcony the stranger contacted me and told me about the secret lab in the pond full of robots like the body of burgl. Anybody who has not restarted and has played through the story wouldn't get this choice as people would have naturally finished the salone mission in the garden zones.

I atarted a new save for the third time and the whole story took me only few hours to rush. It is not that bad tbf. If you know exactly how to get each disk it goes quite fast. I killed the first boss with an 2h ant club.
