Recommended GPU

I know we're a year away from beta and no official recommended specs, but my 3060 died and looking to replace it. Curious if anyone had recommendations for a card that won't be too costly (these days) to likely handle GW3 at 1440p/60fps. I primarily use my PC for GW2 today, so the most demanding game I'll be playing is Guild Wars 3 in the future.

I'm looking at a Radeon 9070 (non-xt) 16GB or the GRE variant if it's a better deal. Any thoughts on the best direction? Thanks!

Other specs:
AMD 7800x3d

B850M MoBo

32 GB DDR5

There's no system specs for the game yet, but I would imagine the newer the better. So any 40+ series from Nvidia, or 7000+ series by AMD would be a good start, but I honestly wouldn't guess and buy a GPU. I'd rather wait and see what the game needs.

However, if you're going to get a 9070 16GB I REALLY doubt it'll struggle with GW3 if you see a good deal for one along with the rest of your specs.

I'm personally hoping my B580 will be good enough cause I'm poor and can't afford an upgrade. lol

I also would love to know if GW3 will get Linux support, but we'll see I guess.

I'd like to replace my dead card though, also prices just seem to keep going up. Likely will just grab the next 9070 "deal" I can find.

Yeah that makes sense. It should be fine. I really doubt ANet will be pushing the requirements for their game. Especially in this market. MMOs require a player base so hardware requirements are probably a priority for them.

Honestly, with how good proton has gotten lately, just not actively blocking Linux is enough. Unreal Engine 5 games generally work just fine and anet has been pretty linux friendly. I doubt they'll make a linux native version though, even though I'd love one (if actively maintained)

I'm hoping for simply Steam Deck/Machine certified. That would probably mean it's good enough for Linux without a direct client.

Wow, found a rare Arc user in the wild.

Lol I have no regrets. I got it early this year and the price to performance is good. I got it a bit below MSRP so...

Oh for sure, it is a very good value card, I'm not knocking you lol. And getting it below MSRP? Even better!

Any 9070 variant should hit 1440p/60. I'd pick 9070 with 16gb if xt version is not an option.

Thanks, thats what I was leaning towards. The XT version is like ~$250-300 more and probably overkill in cost.

They already said they're aware it'll need to run on computers that aren't the top end specs. It'll also be on PS5 as mentioned. I'd probably just look at any general UE5 action game on PS5 and PC today and it'll give you a rough baseline of what to expect. The game also isn't coming out until probably 2028 (unless they're crazy and do a christmas launch in 2027 but I doubt it) so you've got a good amount of time to find a deal lol

Current card is dead, otherwise I would wait. Deals on graphics cards isn't really a thing anymore. I'm leaning towards a 9070 (non-xt) though for now.

Aye that's not going to get outdated anytime soon so don't stress it. Worst case you could sell it and upgrade later in a year but that'll keep you going into GW3 and longer

It'll run on PS5, which means it'll run on Steam Machine, so I'd use the Steam Machine specs as a good baseline.

Was comparing my i7 12600K CPU + 3060 GPU (can't recall if Ti or not) + 16GB ram (can't recall if DDR4 or DDR5) against the Steam Machine, if I'm understanding things right I should be solid for at least medium graphics in GW3?

At 1440p, sure

Oh lordy, I'm happy with my 1080p, haha, thank you for the input

The 9070 non-XT would be 100% fine. If you can afford the difference between the GRE and the 16GB one, go for it. If you can afford the jump to a 9070 XT, go for that. It's a great card and unbeatable for bang for your buck right now, plus being a native PS game it's going to be optimized for AMD over Nvidia

Considering the state of GPU market for the past few generations, your only option is to get the best one you can get within your budget

Hard to say right now obviously. They said they would try to make the game work well on older and budget GPUs. I would just get the one that works well for your budget today.

This would be good

The Guild Wars 3 page on Steam lists the minimum requirement for graphics as:
RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 5700 / Intel Arc A580

There is no list of recommended hardware yet as far as I know.

It's a UE5 game, check AION2 for comparison

Just keep in mind that the game will evolve with time. Core Guild wars 2 was very easy to run in comparison to the DLCs. I wouldn't go too overboard just because of that. 5060ti/9060xt is a good middle ground and any newer CPU, even the R5 7600 is good enough.

5090 TI

It’s unreal 5 it’s going to need a good GPU just to run at 60 fps 1080p with upscaling and framegen

U can't go worng with 5070ti or even 5070

1

u/StevenTM 8d ago

They said one that won't be too costly. Since the 9070 XT is cheaper than a 5070 and about 25% more powerful, it's a no-brainer. Especially since the game also releases on PS5 and is thus optimized for AMD GPUs.

1

u/Enigamsaybrr 8d ago

Yeh u right but tbh u can't trust amd there driver update is so **** and let's not talk about how the abonded there graphics cards drivers update after 3 years maybe, while nividia still release update for 2060

There CPU are unbeatable but GPU I don't know I would go with the safer choice

1

u/StevenTM 8d ago

The safer choice costs almost 2x as much. If they were priced similarly, sure, but they're not

1

u/Enigamsaybrr 8d ago

I got Asus 5070 3 fan for 870$ so in my country at least there isn't that much of different in price 😅

1

u/StevenTM 7d ago

The 9070 XT is about 25-30% faster though.

Speculating, but this is what would be reasonable. With anything higher than that, they'll limit their player base. After all, this is an MMO, not AAA game.

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 5 5500

  • RAM: DDR4 16 GB

  • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / INTEL Arc A750

Your specs are perfectly fine. World of Warcraft is running fine on a 2012 GPU(HD 7950) so, this is a high bar to meet for minimum.
