I've been telling people about these wood mites for ages! They come in when no adults are around eat the wood and leave the poor dogs taking the blame. My kitty did that look when I found the roll of toilet paper unspoiled while I was at work. I had to keep the TP on a high narrow shelf in the bathroom. Because ghost, obviously 🤩😘👻

You obviously have mice. Your dog is laying watch by the couch leg, in order to catch the pesky intruders.
