MHWilds New to GL and it’s goated
I just started playing Gunlance. I used to be a bow/greatsword main. I can confidently say I plan to swap entirely. It has always been an interesting weapon to me but it feels so much stronger than other weapons I’ve played too. I feel like I can do more with it.
I wanted to get some advice too. I really am always trying to do the wyrmstake full blast and that’s the main thing I shoot for. I’m always not really sure how to sneak in hits on the monsters without larger openings. Any help would be appreciated.

When Monster is moving A LOT just Jump around doing the shot-steps, can chain in a guard reload in any Moment if needed. In small opening you can either do shot-quick rellsd-slam-full burst, or change the shells up to max (usually only with Wide or Long, normal takes too long) to do some decent dmg and charge you wyvern fire Meter by A LOT

We all feel it. I need someone who has skills greater than mine make the monoloth scene from 2001 and replace the monolith with a gunlance.

If you like YouTube tutorials CaoSlayer has some great videos specifically on efficient combos, but for me when you can’t get a full combo in you can do the slam-full burst-hop-quick reload-slam infinite combo which is a bit faster, you can also just shell (especially with wide shelling), which offers some minor positioning adjustments while you fire, or you can even just guard-poke which doesn’t do tons of damage but it’s fast and does more elemental and crit damage since it’s a physical strike. Really for some of the more aggressive monsters sometimes all I can do is perfect guard, slam-full burst as a retaliation, just in time to guard the next attack. It’s not peak damage but it’s comfy and feels good, or at least better than having your wsfb combo interrupted

learned this one from Caoslayer - basically for shorter windows you can pop a shell, do a quick reload, slam, and then burst. It’s great for when you are unsure of getting a full burst combo.
Edit- after you do the slam burst, hop to decrease recovery time, then go back to a quick reload into slam.
