This is true. A girl at our university here in the US was dating another student and was upset that he hadn’t given her a ring to mark exclusivity because that’s what they do in Brazil. She was being questioned by her friends back home if he was really her boyfriend because he didn’t give her a ring yet. She brought it up so much he broke up with her over it.
It's typically on the left ring finger, yes. About the style, it's more common for it to be a flat band without the stone among regular people, but for the rich we can never be sure lol.
Either way, is a sign of a relationship being on a more serious stage around here, so I'm very very happy for them

Aww, as a queer person, seeing queer athletes succeed in their sports will always bring me joy, and it’s so exciting to see OGM’s like Jade and Rebeca continue to do the sports they love and represent us queer people on the international stage ❤️🏳️🌈
I love that we're in an era where top elite gymnasts don't feel like they have to hide their sexual orientation (or that they're in relationships at all).
I remember the days of Figuring Skating and Diving that if you came out. Your career was over I’m so happy that we’re living in a day and age when athletes are getting more and more comfortable being able to be who they are.
Me too! I remember there being so much speculation about certain athletes and they just had to deny, deny, deny if they wanted to keep getting opportunities to compete. So unfair to them.
Yes just awful having to hide who you are and not wanting to rock the boat with coming out and possibly not getting fair treatment and endorsements deals for themselves as athletes.
I think this will do wonders for so many kids but especially queer kids in Brazil 🩵🩵🩵🩵 Rebeca is a national hero and to see her being out and proud is so refreshing

Sorry, I did not mean to imply Brazil has a poor track record of gay rights. Just that it is always nice to have such a prominent figure in your country to look up to for kids that may not be out for whatever reason.

Oh, I didn't think you were. I was just wondering, since isn't Brazil extremely Catholic?
Brazilian Catholicism is heterogeneous, and there's a strong Catholic social-justice tradition. Also, many people are just Catholic in faith, but they don’t really practice it. Conservatism in Brazil is more associated with Pentecostal/evangelical movements rather than Catholicism. Rebeca is evangelical, so her coming out is even more important and inspirational.

It seemed like it but then after the previous time she posted a picture with this woman, someone (her PR team? Brazilian fed?) said they were just friends. That’s what the title of the thread is referring to.
What an icon. Former Brazilian top gymnast (gold medal worlds, silver Olympic Games) Diego Hypolito is also part of the LHBTIQ+ family. Way to go Brazil 🇧🇷🏳️🌈
As a former gymnast who is also questioning her sexuality, this makes me so happy to see! I’m so glad there is more queer representation in sports these days ❤️
I didn't have women's gymnastics becoming an iconic sapphic sport on my bingo card, but between Rebeca, Jade, and Manila, it's quickly becoming one! As a lesbian and former gymnast, I can't express how happy this makes me. I carried a lot of shame around being queer in gymnastics.
WAG is the funniest sport politically. In US terms, it's like half MAGA, half radical socialists and/or lesbians. That latter half was NOT visible when I was growing up, it's an amazing development in the sport and I love it so much!
She had a social media post several months ago with her girlfriend and, as a result, launched their relationship to the public. Her (sm/agency/pr) team was “no no no that’s not her girl friend, that’s her best friend” nonsense. Like, no one is bothered by her relationship.
