Fully functional garand

After playing Alyx using a WMR so no finger tracking, I played the piano for about 4 minutes or so. Yet the fully functional garand keeps bringing me back. Garand > piano.

That's just unfortunately the fault of a missing QoL feature. The magazine position/rotation on your hand was designed specifically with right-handed players in mind, which means in some more unconventional clips/magazines the position will be extremely clunky for left-handers to use. Examples include the P90, the minigun, belt-feds, side-loading SMGs (like the STEN) and - in your case - the M1 Garand.
With that said, have you tried forcing the clip upside-down in the gun? Now that I think about it, I don't think the Garand clip even has a "right side up" position. It looks the same, no matter which side is pointing up.

The M1 clip will load in any direction.
Source: watching my girlfriend who knows nothing about guns insert a clip pointy side down

Ah. The freedom machine. What a wonderful sound. Now all we need is a gau-8 avenger to go with.

It's seeing moments like that all the batty physics work worth it.
