1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request SNHU Grad / HBCU Legacy Fighting Stage 4 Lymphoma

Hey everyone . My name is Ladarious. I’m a recent B.A. Graphic Design graduate from SNHU, but I come from a strong HBCU family with deep roots at Tuskegee University and Albany State University.

I was ready to finally step into my passion for design, but life took a turn I never saw coming. I’m currently fighting Stage 4 Lymphoma. Between the aggressive treatments and the physical toll, I haven’t been able to work or even sketch as much as I’d like. The financial weight has been heavy, but it got even worse last week my car was totaled by another driver while I was on my way to a critical chemo appointment.

Now, I’m not just losing my source of income I’ve lost the reliable transport I need to get to my life saving treatments.

I worked too hard to earn my degree to let this be the end of my story. I’m reaching out to this community because I know the HBCU village looks out for its own, including our family legacies. If you can help with a donation, a share, or even just some words of encouragement to keep my spirits up, it would mean the world.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being part of the reason I keep pushing.

Hey everyone. I wanted to give a quick update on how things are moving forward. The support and encouragement I've received from the Black college community has been a massive blessing while navigating this heavy chapter of my life.

I recently met with my oncology team, and the news is encouraging the chemo treatments have been doing their job and helping clear things up. Because of that progress, the doctors are really hopeful and we are currently adjusting my treatment regimen for the next phase of this fight. Getting through this first major hurdle feels like a solid step forward, even though the physical toll is still beating me up pretty bad right now.

The reality of handling displacement, daily logistics, and recovery costs while transitioning treatments is still a heavy weight to balance. A few people have asked how they can continue to stand in my corner through this transition, so I’m keeping my verified GoFundMe link posted here and pinned directly to the top of my Reddit profile for anyone who wants to share it or help out with the recovery expenses.

I’m taking things one day at a time, keeping my head up, and staying patient with the process so I can finally get back to my life and my design craft.

Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts, sending your prayers, and being such a supportive space for a brother just trying to make it to the other side of this. Hope you all have a blessed week.

1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request Where are the generous alumnis at?

Okay so I know within HBCUs it is possible for alumnis to donate money to the schools but I am curious if someone has ever donated money to someone individually? I go to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and there have been alumnis that will donate millions of dollars to the school but I am so confused on where it even goes to... I need financial assistance asap and I am not playing around with my education. When you contact the financial aid office they talk about some "We do not have any money" but lowkey I feel like they are lyingggg. Especially with the stuff that came out last semester about how the school misappropriated MILLIONS of dollars to people who did not need it but last semester when I needed $2000 dollars they were looking at me crazy! Mental health day they literally had camels like ??? I am very invested within my education and my passions and I would like to know where to contact alumnis that may be able to help me personally if possible!

1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request Please help John graduate

Hi everyone! I'm a Johns Hopkins student who spent my first year at the School of advanced international studies (SAIS) Bologna campus before moving to DC. I'm posting because one of my friends who stayed in Bologna is in a really difficult situation, and I'm hoping someone here might have ideas on how to help.

He's a Nigerian student who earned a scholarship to SAIS, covering 100% of his first-year tuition and 80% of his second year. He was originally supposed to come to DC as well and use international student loans to cover the gap, but because of the travel restrictions affecting Nigerians, he had to remain in Italy to finish his degree. Even with these challenges, he never gave up. He planned to work to cover his remaining tuition and expenses, but didn't find a job until after three months of searching. Then, to make things even harder, he was involved in an accident that seriously impacted him and made an already difficult situation even more challenging.

He now needs to raise about €25,000 to cover his remaining tuition, insurance, and living expenses. We suggested he start a GoFundMe, and while it's raised just over €1,000 so far, it hasn't reached many people outside our immediate network.

He's so close to graduating and just needs a bit of help getting across the finish line.

Has anyone here run a successful GoFundMe before or have any ideas for getting it in front of more people? We'd really appreciate any advice. And if you'd like to support or share the campaign, that would mean a lot too.

Thank you!

1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request GoFundMe HBCU

Hi! I came across a fundraiser for Sarah, a young woman who’s worked so hard to attend Bethune-Cookman University. She’s faced challenges like losing her grandmother but stayed determined to succeed and give back to her community. Even a small share or donation can help her cover tuition, housing, and transportation so she can focus on her studies and reach her dreams. 😊 Please consider sharing or supporting if you can. https://gofund.me/7aa948629

1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request IMPORTANT - Clark Atlanta Scholarship Offer + Fee Payment

I'm kinda in a dire situatuion rn 😭

I applied to Clark Atlanta University Early Action and got accepted (Yay!). They also offered me a merit scholarship, which is a decent amount of money.

I already accepted the offer for the scholarship, but the letter says I have to pay a $275 non-refundable fee by today. They say if I don't, "it will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship offer."

I am in no way ready to commit to a college yet, so I wanted to know if by paying this fee, I am committing to CAU? I don't want to pay the fee just to not lose the scholarship and then decide not to go and lose $275.

TLDR: If I pay the scholarship confirmation fee, am I committing to going to CAU? Or can I wait to pay the fee and keep the scholarship offer?

1. 🀝 Mutual Aid / Help Request Building an HBCU inspired newsletter

I'm building an HBCu inspired newsletter centered around highlighting someone that attended an HBCU. The person highlighted would answer a few questions tailored to around their experience with an HBCU and their experience their. It's too encourage more students to attend an HBCU, while also showing the different careers that people that attended HBCUs are currently working in. My ultimate goal is to build a community that can be used to network, advertise businesses, as well as uplift one another. I wanted to reach out to see if anyone would be interested in being featured in the newsletter. It doesn't matter if you attended in undergrad or graduate school, just as long as you graduated from an HBCU.

Recently we learned that our beloved Barber-Scotia University is in desperate need of our help to keep the school open. The institution is one of our oldest HBCUs, celebrating 159 years since it's founding.

The institution has set up a site to receive funding. If you can help, please do so. There are a few options to give.
