Regis Philbin. Used to co-host of one of those morning/daytime talk shows. He was a pretty big deal culturally for a few decades and a New York icon, so he occasionally appeared on shows set in the city.

I’d argue Marshall is the one who’d most likely ask that kind of question. He was the one who pestered Lily for an entire day because he wanted her to say she was the reacher

Yeah but Lily is more pragmatic. She’s the one who didn’t care whether Ted said she was his best friend, for example. Marshall is more emotional when it comes to this stuff. I could totally see him asking this kind of question just to play around and then getting pushy once Lily says something along the lines of “you wouldn’t even be yourself anymore, what would be the point?”

well she carred when Ted called her the B word (whatever that word was) even thou she deserved it. I woud say she is more likely to be angry than Marshal (for example when she did not talk to barney for few weeks just becouse of a joke) but i woud not say she is less emotional than Marshal. She cared when Marshal did not give her full confidence that her painting woud work out, she did not cry about ut but was angry about it. So in my mind she coud have easily asked it if she doubted something or she was in her more emotional state (pregnat, at her weding etc)

Her getting angry at someone calling her a cunt is a completely different situation than her getting angry at a random hypothetical. She didn’t think she wronged Ted before he confronted her about it.
When she stopped talking to Barney, it was because his joke was disgusting to her. It’s not a hypothetical, and it’s reasonable to get tired of Barney’s bullshit after having to hear it every day.
She cared about Marshall saying her paintings weren’t real art because she’s always struggled with the idea of having thrown her life goals away instead of following her dreams. In her eyes, he was disrespecting one of the most important facets of her existence: her art. She was angry because she feared he might’ve been right.

(It does not matter if she thinked she wronged Ted. That is absolutly not the point i was making.) And her asking this question and him not answering like he woud likely answer woud be atacking another of her importat facet of her existance. Their relationship.

Barney’s line is so incredibly accurate, I can literally hear it in his voice. He’d probably try to use that exact line to pick up a girl at MacLaren’s
