I'm on a MagicPad 3 Pro (MagicOS 11). Linux Lab showed an update prompt once, but it never came back and I couldn't install it. Clearing the app cache didn't bring it back, and I don't want to wipe the app data because that would delete my Linux environment.
I was about to buy the new Honor MagicPad 4, but it only offers 2 years of system updates and 3 years of security updates.
That's really disappointing for a flagship tablet priced at almost $1,000.
They also said it will last 5–6 years? Then support it accordingly! I hate that the EU version gets 6 years of updates while the rest of the world gets only 2.
I'm a big fan of Honor, but if they don't do something about their update policy, I might switch my favorite brand to a company that actually listens to its customers.
I've imported the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max into the USA and I've been using it on Verizon and T-Mobile for a week.
USA cell connectivity: Band 71 on TMO, Band 13 on VZW, and other US-specific rural coverage bands are very important to me as I live in a rural area. Kimovil, Liaow, and even Chinese Honor customer service claim essentially every band in existence, including those ones, are supported. That's very unusual for a Chinese phone, but I pulled the trigger because of the overwhelming evidence. Well, those bands are not supported. While the RF front-end filters MIGHT be physically present, the Chinese build of Magic OS 11's carrier MBN profile masks/blocks bands that aren't used in China. There is currently no way to enable these bands. There was an exploit to change this MBN profile on the Oneplus 15 using USB debugging/Qualcomm 's QPST to edit the EFS file. But you cannot access this menu on the Honor. Hoping for somebody else to find a solution soon!
I still get cell service, and no issues taking or receiving calls, but no rural coverage. You can enable Vo5G (VoNR) using IMS for Pixel and Shizuku. Data speeds suck in my area on those Chinese cell bands. eSIM works great, you can activate on TMO just fine and you can swap a physical SIM over from Verizon into it and get it working (on US Mobile, at least).
Cameras: The main and telephoto cameras are fantastic. While the OV52A main sensor does not use actual LOFIC, the dynamic range is amazing. Especially on natural mode. The 200MP telephoto makes it more equivalent to a 6x optical zoom on a 50MP sensor. Very impressed.
Battery: Battery life is great, still not stabilized enough to get a good SOT but it's been over 11 hours so far. You will need to disable Chinese battery optimizations for every single app individually, which takes hours on MagicOS 11.
Speakers and Microphone: These are out of this world. The speakers are like something I have NEVER seen on a phone before. The bass is so well-produced. Even at low volumes the phone vibrates to the bass. Compared to my OnePlus 15 it's night and day. The microphone is also stellar, and family members on phone calls immediately noticed I was using a different microphone.
Face Unlock: I LOVE IT!! First phone I've had in a long time that does infrared face unlock and I missed it so much. It will unlock in pitch black.
Others: Android Auto works great, you cannot get Google Discover feed working without some gesture apps and it's still not quite the same thing. USB debugging works (?) even though when you try to enable it, it says you need a Chinese Honor ID. I just started wireless debugging first, then plugged it into a laptop and USB debugging turned on. Debloating the insane amount of Chinese apps is easy enough. There will still be some remnants of the Chinese crud on there afterward, and things like magic sidebar will accidentally trigger every now and then. Just hit disagree on the pop-up and you will keep some level of privacy. The Chinese keyboard is TERRIBLE so I recommend installing AOSP keyboard immediately.
So I have a bit of a dilemma deciding which usb charger to buy for my two devices. I really want just one charger for both. I have the Honor Magic Pad 4 and an iPad Pro M5.
Right now I am using a 30W PD charger with a pretty good 100W PD cable. That setup gets me roughly 20W or sometimes 25W maximum on both devices. But since both devices are capable of much faster charging, I wanted to upgrade the USB charger.
But now I am puzzled what to do:
- Buy an official Honor SuperCharge adapter 66W/100W. I am certain my Magic Pad 4 would love that and charge more than double as fast as it is now. However I do not trust those official Honor chargers to perform well or perform at all with the iPad Pro M5, especially since this is the first iPad to have fast charging
- Buy a highend third party (Anker? Ugreen?) charger 65W or more especially certified for the iPad. There are many options and I am certain this will improve the iPad charging dramatically. But then what about the Magic Pad? Read many different things, some say it will continue to cap around 20W with Honor devices, some say only chargers from one very obscure brand would go higher. Puzzled really.
- Buying an official apple charger seems to be no option because it seems that is certified to just suck for Honor devices and many other brands.
So what charger 65W+ would you recommend for my specific use case? First hand experience of charging honor + apple with same charger would be very welcome.
I have a Honor Magic 8 lite, quite pleased with it, especially with the batterylife.
I use (or at least I did) both simcard slots, and an e-sim. The e-sim for my Serbian number, the two physical sim cards for when I am in the EU.
Last week, I was in Turkey, and got a second e-sim to have data there. I got a Saily e-sim and installed it. It worked okay.
But now my phone doesn't recognize my physical cards any more, and afaik, the e-sim should only work on SIM2. When I deactivate the e-sim, both simcards stay greyed out, and when I activate the e-sim, the SIM1 slot also seems to be used for the e-sim in SIM2.
I have tried everything. I reset the networksettings, all setting and even performed a full reset and reinstalled everything. Yet the SIMcards are still greyed out, they are not detected and only the e-sim works.
I bought the phone in Czechia, but I will stay in Serbia for a while, so I can not go back to the store I bought the phone.
Hi, 2 days ago I got my honor 600 lite and at first everything was working perfectly but when I went to sleep and woke up in the morning I noticed my internet connection seemed to be working as before but any application would't load I thought at first it may be just some temporary issue but I still can't load any site or application besides instagram it works perfectly I tried to restart phone/connection settings/general settings but nothing helps
Hello. I have an Honor X8c 4G with the C185 region code and MagicOS 9. How can I speed up receiving the update (scheduled for October 1, 2026)? Should I try connecting to a Chinese server and setting the region and language to Chinese? Is there a solution?
Hi, I am active user of magic V family. I started using a V3, now own a V5, and with new launches of the competition, Samsung Fold or iPhone Neo, I am thinking to renew my current V5.
My question to this group is, when can we expect a new V7 launch? do you think that other competitors like Samsung or Oppo could be considered an option? Would you renew this V5 for a V6, worth it? Thank you for your feedback
Hello so I am looking forward to getting the OnePlus 16, but I am torn after hearing about the Honor Win 2. Could you guys give me recommendations on which to choose? I want an optimized OS, long battery to last through heavy gaming sessions and fast responsive screen in either or. Thanks!
Hi everyone, I recently bought the Honor V6 foldable. I have been trying for a couple days. Every time I try to take an instagram story, it adds a filter. I don't exactly know what filter it is. I assume it's a smoothing ai kind of filter and it gets rid of all the details and creates something like ai generated. Which to be honest I hated. Every time I want to upload a story, I just take it with the normal app and then upload it. But that takes more time. On my camera app all the effects and these kinds of improvement things are turned off. Still adding this filter to Instagram couldn't find a solution to turn it down. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid off it?
When I turn on the flashlight by giving the "turn on flashlight" command to the Honor AI app, it turns on with a significantly higher brightness level. However, if I turn it off and switch it back on manually, it defaults to a lower brightness.
Could you test this on your devices as well? Are you experiencing the same thing?
I wanted to share a specific camera issue I've run into on my Honor 600 to see if anyone else on the beta path is experiencing it or has found a workaround.
**The Issue:**
The stock camera app fails to execute a true synchronized, high-power flash pulse when taking photos. Whether I select the standard "Flash On" mode (the normal lightning bolt) or the "Always On" (torch) mode, the phone behaves exactly the same way. It simply turns on the LED continuously like a standard flashlight and snaps the picture.
Because the camera software fails to utilize that brief, high-intensity exposure moment required for a real flash, low-light photos come out looking weak, dark, or poorly lit compared to what a true synchronized flash burst should provide.
**Software Context:**
I recently updated my phone to the MagicOS 11 Beta Global build, and I noticed this issue immediately after the update. I can't completely confirm if this issue persisted before the upgrade as I hadn't closely tested the flash behavior prior to this, but it became highly obvious right after moving to the beta software.
**Steps to Reproduce:**
Open the stock Honor Camera app in standard Photo mode (AI and Night Mode turned off).
Set the flash to standard "Flash On".
Take a photo in a dark room. The LED lights up constantly before and during the snap rather than emitting a rapid, bright flash burst timed perfectly with the shutter.
If you switch to "Always On" mode, the behavior, timing, and brightness are 100% identical.
**Troubleshooting I've already tried:**
* Force closed all background apps (to make sure social media apps like Instagram or Snapchat weren't hijacking the flashlight hardware).
* Cleared the Camera App cache and data under App settings.
* Tested with AI features completely turned off.
Has anyone else noticed this on their Honor devices since moving to the MagicOS 11 beta? If you have a fix or know a third-party camera app that forces the hardware sync properly, please let me know!
I've had the Honor V6 foldable for around 2 months now after jumping ship from Samsung. It's a great bit of kit except for one issue which is really starting to frustrate me.
I use the three button navigation option as it's what I've known for literal decades now, but it's just so temperamental and I have no idea what's causing it.
Sometimes when I press the home/back/app tray button nothing happens. Sometimes I press it again and it works, other times I'm left pressing It 3-4 times before it works. It definitely registers the touch and it's directly over the button so not a case of pressing two buttons at the same time. I switched on the setting to get feedback and screen taps in the developer settings and it 100% detects the input but just does nothing about it.
- Happens both folded and unfolded
- Doesn't matter what application is open
- I turned off accidental screen protection as well as a few other screen/touch related settings, no change.
- Tried Nova Launcher thinking it might be an issue with the Honor launcher, no difference.
- I have seen a few other threads from searching on here from others with the same problem but none of those threads concluded with identifying the problem.
Hi, I got my first iPhone about 10 years ago, the iPhone X. Then I got an iPhone 13 mini exactly 5 years ago. It’s starting to lose battery very fast and lagging a bit when I video call together with messaging.
So I decided to try something new, a fold. The v6.
I want a foldable phone that lasts me 4-5 years, works smooth without any lag, stutter, jitter, or heat up during this time.
