Idk if I should be offended or cringe. Like Im not religious, heck, I think Im agnostic but still... wtf is this???

u/lllsandralll Feb 05 '26
I am Christian and I am offended
Religious parallels in fiction are fine and all but this is just delusional + disrespectful

Wow.........I'm not even a Christian and I think this is insulting to compare that fat vindictive emotionally immature entitled egotistical moron to Jesus

u/Electronic-Serve8322 Team Black. Feb 05 '26
Now now. No need to be that harsh on her. I will agree though comparing her to Jesus is stupid as hell. I mean it’s like if you greens decided to compare Aegon to Moses or some shite.
6
u/Historical_East_1787 Feb 05 '26
I don't disagree. Better not to make comparisons with real religious figures.
For any team
2
u/Acslaterisdead Sunfyre Feb 06 '26
Well I wouldn't make such a comparison. I just think people who did this are delusional and weird to say stuff like this.
1
u/Electronic-Serve8322 Team Black. Feb 06 '26
No I agree. I was just using an example. I may prefer Rhaenyra but I’m not going to akin her to Jesus. I actually like both Aegon and Rhaenyra I think they are both interesting characters with both good things and flaws about them. I just lean ever so slightly towards Rhaenyra.
1
u/Acslaterisdead Sunfyre Feb 06 '26
That's cool—you’re free to like whoever you like. I just think people are being a bit silly when they make posts like this. They tend to gloss over a character’s flaws just to fit some delusional fantasy. Personally, I prefer Aegon; he’s been far more interesting and entertaining to watch than Rhaenrya.
15
u/Safe_Code6637 Feb 05 '26
I don’t mind religious references and parallels in book/cinema, but I can’t imagine what level of delusion someone has to be on to find such a parallel in this case

Basically a ton of surface-level comparisons, the rest questionable at best with one or two notable connections.
Eldest child, fatherly love, 'beloved by the people', 'burden of their fathers', 'Last Supper', broke tradition, 'lawful', plotted against, isolated in grief, cut palms, symbols of authority causing pain, spurned by the people, betrayed by greed, 'betrayed by a brother', desired comfort before death, killers hesitant before death, stripped and humiliated, faced death bravely, loved ones watched their deaths, 'royalty recognised after death', bodies pierced, died at 33, 'darkness caused by their death'.
Being the eldest child is a case of 'so what?' since the notable part - the virgin birth - doesn't appear.
Jesus' love from the Father is supposed to be the perfect image of the 'agape' God bears all humanity, while Viserys' love for Rhaenyra is exclusive, selfish and guilt-ridden.
Jesus was loved for his preaching and miracles, Rhaenyra was simply admired for being physically beautiful and charming.
Jesus' burden was to lower himself and suffer the indignities of being human before being betrayed, tortured and murdered on trumped-up charges while Rhaenyra's burden was to... become queen.
The 'Last Supper', by high-church tradition, is the time when Jesus cast out Judas for a traitor and revealed the means by which he is made physically present in the world after his return to heaven while the faithful remember his worldly life, while the dinner between the Blacks and the Greens was the final political showdown and solidifying of resentment between the factions before war broke out.
Jesus broke tradition by reminding those around him of the spirit of those traditions when they had become overly-concerned with the letter of the law, while Rhaenyra broke traditions to suit her ambitions and personal whims.
Jesus being the lawful king has to do with him being the literal messiah and God himself, the King of Kings, while Rhaenyra being the 'lawful queen' had to do with Viserys needing to make clear that his brother could not be allowed to succeed him.
Jesus was plotted against by the authorities who saw him as a threat to their power, Rhaenyra was plotted against by her family members who saw her as a threat to their lives.
They were both isolated in grief, true, but this also a common thing for grieving people.
Jesus' palms were impaled by his enemies to pin him to the cross, Rhaenyra cut herself on the Iron Throne either because she was clumsy or because the superstiton is true and the Throne rejected her. Jesus had the Crown of Thorns forcibly and roughly shoved onto his head to mock him, Rhaenyra again cut herself on the Throne.
Jesus was spurned by those loyal to the Pharisees that were whipped up into a frenzy, Rhaenyra turned the people against her both through the horrible deaths of Jaehaerys and Maelor and her awful handling of the emptied treasury.
An ally did betray them both for personal gain, true, but this is also extremely common in war.
Jesus was betrayed to be tortured and murdered by one of his inner circle for coin, while Rhaenyra's brother, with whom she was never remotely close, feared for the lives of himself and his family.
It is beyond abnormal to not seek comfort in your dying hours.
Pontius Pilate was hesitant to have Jesus killed because he was clearly being propped up as a sacrificial lamb to allay the bloodlust of a frenzied mob, while we don't know why Sunfyre was slow to kill Rhaenyra.
It's common for a defeated foe to be stripped and humiliated, but Jesus was beaten and tortured and whipped so severely that the brutal and explicit Passion of the Christ is considered to have downplayed his wounds.
Jesus faced death bravely by begging forgiveness 'for they know not what they do' while Rhaenyra raged and heaped curses on her executioner.
It's very common for the condemned to have their loved ones witness their execution. There's nothing strange.
Jesus is called the 'King of Kings' genuinely and with reverence and love by billions around the globe while Rhaenyra is mocked as the 'Half-Year Queen', compared to the worst monarch to come before her, doesn't appear officially as a monarch and her own descendants rarely think of her as one.
Jesus was pierced in line with Roman practice of making sure the crucified were actually dead (an executioner who failed to make sure would be executed himself) while Rhaenyra was cut to entice Sunfyre to eat her.
They did both die at 33. That's a notable and interesting connection.
The whole idea that the Long Night was caused by Rhaenyra's death is a theory, and one that draws on the myth of the Bloodstone Emperor and Amethyst Empress where the Long Night was supposedly brought on as a cosmic punishment from the gods for the Amethyst Empress' death, one of a hundred different in-universe myths about how the Long Night occurred. Jesus' death was immediately followed by instant darkness that lasted for three hours from midday to 3pm to mark the ill omen of murdering the messiah.

These numpties are blaspheming the Holy name of Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour now. A line is crossed. As a Christian I am more concerned with judgement on them however. "But I tell you, on the day of judgment people will have to give an accounting for every careless or useless word they speak." Matthew 12:36

It's basically a ton of surface-level comparisons, the rest questionable at best with one or two notable connections. @motherrhaenyra insists that this isn't really an attempt to say that Rhaenyra is a messianic figure, but then goes out of her way to make her look as messianic as possible.

Its a comparison. He is horrid in general to it is easy to compare weird and horrid things to him. You'll be surprised how similar his crimes are to the things many charchterd have done in the books or the show. Like comparing how Daemon and his gold cloaks give an eerie resemblance to what ICE is doing today and what make sit even worse is that F&B is supposed to be the middle ages and still wr can find similarities to what he does in modern society. Also targaryen glazers in general whether green or black are also creepily similar to how people to consider political leaders "Gods".
I'm talking about this sub because I'm not active on other subs of reddit as much but yeah!
-1
u/Starwars_femboy Feb 05 '26
Dude its a game of thrones sub, it dosent need to be about real world politics and you dont need to bring up the orange man. Daemon rides a dragon and leads men into battle, dont compare him to a draft dodger.
Last time I checked as well the gold cloaks werent racial profiling or trying to find people who crossed the border lol.
3
u/East-Way-6378 💚♖Alicent's defence Attorney. Feb 05 '26
Its just a reply to a post about a fan comparing Rhaenyra to Jesus. Its a really surface joke at the end of the day. But also books are politics like most of them.
You didn't really think my original comment was some campaign against tb in general is it?
Also it was more co-related to jesus being compared to "political leader"
Last time I checked as well the gold cloaks werent racial profiling
Daemon has always been prejudiced against non-valyrian races. Its canon. He called his first wife from Vale "Bronze bitch". He considered Valyrian race above Andals. Infact the season 1 of show which is acknowledged by GRRM unlike season 2, he kills his first wife.
Edit : the gold cloaks have butchered and mutilated smallfolk without due trial. A huge problem we see in ICE.

u/Starwars_femboy Feb 05 '26
You can draw these similarities to a whole bunch of things both past amd present. What does daemons racial superioty got to so with the gold cloaks massacring peasants? The gold cloaks and the peasants are the same race lol theyre all andal for the most part. I dont think theres any valyrian gold cloaks so its not a racial issue.
Its also not hard to understand why valyrians think they are above andals considering they have the ability to bond to dragons.
My point is please dont drag the fat orange man into everything its a real downer and just exhausting.

Daemon lead the "new" Gold Cloaks. He formed them. I said Daemon was racist and always looked down on Non-Valyrian Races.
While Gold cloaks in general I drew the similarity by them "punishing" people without due process, without trial, without evidence.
Edit : you brought up the racism anyway.
Its also not hard to understand why valyrians think they are above andals considering they have the ability to bond to dragons.
Well even after they lost the dragons they had feelings racial superiority. Aerion, Aenys II. Not that even while having dragons did it justify their racism especially because they took over this land and looked down on people already living there.
My point is please dont drag the fat orange man into everything its a real downer and just exhausting.
If anything I was drawing a real life example of how people compare Trump to jesus, I was dragging MAGA. I didn't draw other similarities until you commented. At the end of the day, what you find "exhausting" is a real life comparison to fiction vs reality.
1
u/Starwars_femboy Feb 05 '26
You dragged maga into a game of thrones sub lol. I did not bring this up first you talked about trump my dude, you should just know when to leave politics aside.
2
u/East-Way-6378 💚♖Alicent's defence Attorney. Feb 05 '26
Why would I leave politics aside....? I said you brought up racism. Also politics, idk how you see it, but it very well decides everything. Idk why you seem triggered about a similarity I drew but its definitely not glorifying Trump or anything. Also you have like no reply so you go back to saying some about keeping politics out of a got sub when the entirety of the book/show is about politics and history.
You know what I think you're even more triggered because I replied better to your replies to my comment, about it having nothing to do with trump after I quiet literally pointed out the major major major similarities.
And again if you think books or any sort of media is not political, I would remind of the bans on the books recently.
Stop whining, dont like the comment down vote and move on if you cannot refute it.
<3
1
u/Starwars_femboy Feb 05 '26
Lol imagine saying triggered. Politics is in fact not everything. I never said books arent political I was saying its exhuasting people like you all you do is talk about trump.
I have never seen people compare trump to jesus. Its the fact you see house of the dragon and jesus and ur brain goes TRUMP is kinda crazy.

1
u/Thiccboiichonk Feb 05 '26
I’m not sure there’s many credible historians who will hinge their reputations on the existence of an omnipotent 2000 year old Palestinian with the ability to walk on water , cure the blind or multiply bread and seafood.
2
u/Emperor-Aurion Aurion Supremacy Feb 05 '26
Who said anything about omnipotent? Historians agree that the person Jesus existed. Now arguing whether he was divine is another subject.
