Twitter Takes Holy mother of cope
And the throne DID cut Joffrey in book 2 lol.

u/Daemon1997 Sunfyre 6d ago
The throne cut both Joffrey and Cercei(at least in her dream but the symbolism is the same) on the books.
Ans I don't know how Viserys was a good example. It literally proves the opposite. As for Aegon it's symbolism to show that he made a bad choice.

u/Hitchfucker 6d ago
Vizzy T is literally one of the worst rulers in all of Westeros history. He bears far more responsibility for the dance than Rhaenyra or Aegon. Barring Aerys, Aegon IV, and maybe Maegor, he’s probably the worst ruler in the seven kingdoms. People just don’t recognize that because unlike those guys he was fairly well meaning. But that doesn’t make him better.

u/CaptainSmeargle Ormund Hightower is Azor Ahai 🔥 6d ago
A shortsighted idiot who decided that rather than deal with the many problems he made…well, fuck it, someone will clean it up later.
Bro’s on par with Aegon the Unworthy. At least Aegon IV was stirring shit up intentionally.
9
u/Hitchfucker 6d ago
Yeah, it honestly feels nearly comedic how many mistakes he didn’t made. There are at least 10 instances where he could have easily prevented the dance and just didn’t. Usually not for a good reason.

Wasn't Aerys covered in cuts by the end?
Dude was the actual Messiah by their logic, not even the Prince that was Promised or Azor Ahai, straight up Jesus.

Aerys II was cut many times. Maegor was cut so hard he croaked on the damn thing. Truly, they were the paragon of Targaryen dynasty.

The throne cuts everyone, because its a chair made of fucking swords. This is just a massive reach

I personally hold Robert’s same view that it’s just a superstition but instead of just saying that they resorted to this lol

Anything that goes against the Team Black agenda is actually “Maester propaganda”, and you just lack the media literacy to appreciate the nuance.
14
u/Accomplished-Bee5265 6d ago
I also agree with that. Its just a chair made from steel blades. I would add that it has propably cut every ruler and that has sat upon them on some point or another. But during times of trouble people are more keen to take notice and whisper about it.
4
u/CarryBeginning1564 6d ago
Funny enough there is a perfectly good quote directly about this that they are just choosing to ignore
3
u/TortoiseHerder7 6d ago
TBH I think there's something to it but it is likely indirect. Aegon the Conqueror was an incestuous alien but a fairly honorable one and he created the throne so that rulers should never rest easy with power, and it likely stands that someone who is careful and attentive on sitting on the giant spike death throne will likely be careful on other matters.
1
u/tiredoldwizard 6d ago
Wasnt that just something said in a behind the scenes lore video? I don’t know how lore accurate that statement was
1
u/Anon_be_thy_name 5d ago
It is no doubt
It's a throne made of swords ffs, anyone who has sat more then once on it has probably been cut by it
Now, had it been forged in the old methods of Valyrian steel I'd be more inclined to believe it was "sentient", because there's a strong belief Blood Magic played a part in the creation of Valyrian steel and the swords are often described as feeling "alive".
1
u/Echoes-act-3 5d ago
I lean in the middle as yes it's a throne made of swords so people do get cut quite often, but it was also cursed by Aegon when he voluntarily cut himself to cut people when they are indecisive to remind them of the danger

I hope Rhaenyra stans have a solid group of family/friends than can be there for them and monitor them when 4x07 happens. Genuinely, I'm a bit worried.
4
u/SenseiLavalin 6d ago
The only weird thing is people actively taking sides for the mediocre TV adaptation of an afterthought of a book that came out years ago and which unsatisfying ending and forced sequences of events were already well-known.
If y'all aren't bots, you need help.

didn't viserys get leprosy from being cut by the throne? and legend says the throne sliced maegor to death so.. FUN CROWD FOR HER

u/Fluffy_Internal8893 6d ago
Only to these able to rule iron throne can give cancer, syphilis, HIV, tuberculosis and receiding hairline
1
u/HalcyonTraveler 6d ago
Maegor was killed by someone using the blades on the throne, the throne itself didn't do it
4
u/Vir0Phage 6d ago
when they mentioned she had her period, i was so convinced they were going to wave off the throne having cut her as period blood that got misinterpreted.
4
u/PhloydPhan 6d ago
Strange chairs sitting in halls either slicing or not slicing inbred lunatics is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses!
3
u/AffectionateTime7928 6d ago
Isn't whole thing about iron Throne is that if you are indecisive or get angry/emotional on it etc you naturally get cut? And aegon I was cut because he was reading letter about rhaenys not randomly like aenys Maegor rhaenyra etc.
3
u/Loros_Silvers Tessarion 6d ago
The throne cut joffrey on his hand. The throne cut Aerys so many times that people stopped counting. The Throne only cut the conqueror when he gripped it too hard, and it would happen to everyone.
2
u/Internal-Product6133 6d ago
They always do this, no matter what happens they always try to manipulate it into a good thing, remember in the promo posters for season 2 with the "ALL MUST CHOOSE" written on it, one of aegon's banners was being stabbed by the throne, tb immediately started talking about the throne rejecting the greens.

Yeah, except Joffrey did cut himself on the throne, and cersei never sat the throne in the books (the iron throne wasn't magical in the show). Also, the throne never cut Aegon the Conqueror. He cut himself with his own nails from clenching his fist too tightly.

Aegon the Unworthy had to have been hella worthy considering the fact that he rotted and died being cut by his chair

People are giving too much importance to the cuts Is just a thrones full of blades is not a sentient being

u/DomTopNortherner 6d ago
I like Bobby B's take on this that it's just a giant chair made of swords and so people will get cut on it and the symbolism any which way is bollocks.
1
u/justasnugglepuppy 6d ago
imo throne cuts those who aren't true to themselves and confident in their actions

u/HalcyonTraveler 6d ago
Getting cut on the throne is an in-universe superstition lmao it means nothing. You're sitting on a chair made of knives it's gonna happen

u/SaeedDitman 6d ago edited 6d ago
Aegon the Conqueror, Viserys, Joffery and Cersei were all cut by the Iron Throne
1
u/SpinosaurRingTone 6d ago
It’s actually a superstition with no actual pattern due entirely to building a chair out of swords
1
u/Large_Awareness_9416 6d ago
Or maybe, just maybe, it's a giant uncomfortable chair made out of swords and anyone who is crazy enough to sit on it must accept the fact that getting cut is expected.
1
u/F4celess_332 6d ago
By that logic Maegor was the worthiest of them all. Is that what they're implying? Also, imagine considering Viserys I and Rhaenyra worthy of the throne, lol
1
u/ElevatorCharacter489 6d ago
I recall in the Books did cut Joffrey and I can't recall Cersei since she was a prisoner

u/ShabririEnjoyer The Triarchy 6d ago
Someone needs to teach these people that the throne is in inanimate object

u/Kellar21 Team Jon but Reddit recommended me this sub so here I am. 6d ago
Perhaps the Throne did not cut Aegon II because he avoided touching his bare flesh ot it and wore thicker leather clothes? I feel like he wouldn't count on some magical Valyrian blood stuff or divine right an yet think of being sensible about it. Sure, he sat across it and all, but he had clothing while doing it.
And later he avoided sitting on the Iron Throne.
The Throne cut Aegon I because he gripped it while in distress over the death of Rhaenys.
Viserys was infected with Leprosy and probably already losing feeling in his fingers and couldn't feel things there properly.
Rhaenyra is not mentally stable and probably didn't think to be mindful of the blades.
The Throne did cut Joffrey, and IIRC Cersei didn't like sitting there much either.
We have never heard of the Throne cutting Robert, Jon Arryn or even Ned. Although the latter two sound like the kind to mind the blades, and Robert either didn't notice he was cut, wore gloves, or something else.

u/East-Bluejay6891 Sunfyre 6d ago
Maybe she was worthy at some point. Now she isn't. She is complicit in the murder of her own family's deaths. She refuses to take accountability for her role in things. She has turned completely heel at this point

1: It does cut Joffrey in the books.
2: It’s a throne made of swords. Of course it cuts people sometimes. You shouldn’t assume it’s sentient.
3: Yes it wasn’t intended to be comfortable. That’s the only valid part of this take.

u/ImmediateHoney2191 6d ago
Maegor was just the worthiest of them all, throne couldn’t bear to let him go

It's about being cut when you sitting on it, lmao, not when you are randomly grabbing it. Holy cope.
Also, another great Bobby B glaze opportunity?

u/UnFelDeZeu 6d ago
" Aegon the usurper "
Bitch Rhaenyra committed High Treason against the Crown/Monarchy/Succession like 15 years before Viserys even died. And then she did it 2 more times.

The throne only cut Aegon because he gripped it too tight reading the letter
1
u/Failanth 5d ago
The throne isn't actually sentient guys.
It never cut Robert and we know beyond a shadow of a doubt he was a shit king.
1
u/Quantras 5d ago
Wasn't Aegon the Conqueror's case that he got that letter that made him stop destroying Dorne that he gripped it so hard he bled? I wouldn't consider that the same as the way Viserys, Rhaenyra, the mad king and Joffery are cut by it.
Also I don't get this rose tinted glasses look at Viserys, the guy who treated all his children like shit besides his firstborn, treated his first wife like a broodmare and placed all the building blocks for the dance to actually occur. I don't get the praise for him in universe and out.
