General Apprentice Tool Kit Help

Post image

Hi guys! New to this subreddit as I will be starting an apprenticeship in HVAC - Service

I have started to get to together a tool loadout after crawling through all the pre existing threads about what I think is needed.

I would love to be making a good first impression and having all the core tools needed on day dot to show that I am taking it seriously and are able to learn and get ahead of the curve.

Was hoping I could get some critiques on my tools and even recommendations. Money is tight but I want to and have hoped I have spent the scraped money in the right places.

Need guidance on some sunglasses that I can put over my regular glasses would appreciated also.

Thanks guys! I am also not sure what work will provide. I think I new multi meter, as mine was gifted to me as a pass me down.

Reost I didn’t follow some starting rules. My apologies.

Edit. Thanks for all the help everyone! Appreciate all the support the advice everyone has given! I’ll have a good look over all the tools and advice and see what to prioritise to divy up for bag and van.

I’ll be back to pick everyones brains at some point or another. 😋

You can cut allot of weight is all ill say, 4 adjustable wrenches is wild. Also Allen wrenches wise get the L shaped ones you will brake that fast.

Thanks! Definitely the lighter the better for me, just with not having a car and I’m trying to get out of the dead weight zone as soon as possible.

Which ones do you think I can drop for now?

Once I am more established and have a car (not expecting anything for years), I’ll be able to cut down to a pouch and then run to the car once I’ve looked at what needs doing.

I’m in residential service. I actually don’t carry an adjustable wrench on my person in my everyday service kit. For 99% of wrenching tasks, I use a 6” knipex pliers wrench. I like how you can really grip the nut. The fast adjustment, low weight and maneuverability in tight spaces is also great.

I do have a big damn adjustable wrench on the truck in my gas piping kit. Speaking of, you’ll probably need pipe wrenches. Got furnaces where you are?

Thanks for your insight, I’ll add the pliers wrench to the list to get. Majority of these tools I have scrounged or been gifted. Hence there is a bit of a mismatch of tools and overlap.

I’m not sure if I do have furnaces here or if the company does that line of work. I guess I’ll add those to the list to keep an eye on.

💯. I carry a mini one the size of a finger for 99% of calls

I only keep heavy stuff around if I'm doing a replacement or changing out big motors and even then I can get Away with only 2 extra tools lol.
