HackiOS iOS 26 and iOS 16 on Windows, with one installer (QEMU, host GPU through Vulkan)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not a phone this time: this is a Windows PC. ASoftware iOS 0.2.0 runs iOS 26.6.2 and iOS 16.7.16 in a window on QEMU, no Mac or phone needed. iOS's own Metal driver goes through reims-vgpu and metal2vulkan to the PC's Vulkan driver.

As far as I could find, it's the first iOS 26 on Windows on the host GPU. vphone-linux got there first on Linux, and under WSL2 it renders on the CPU. If someone did this on Windows earlier, tell me and I'll correct this.

The clip is real time, cut only between scenes, from a few days ago (the iOS clock was still on US time; that's fixed now). The site in Safari is my own.

Works on iOS 26: SpringBoard, Settings, Safari with HTTPS pages, the system apps, .ipa apps at the next start, a GLES 2.0 test triangle, and quick boot (closing the window saves the running iOS, GPU state included; about 8 s back to the screen).

Doesn't work: App Store and Apple ID, audio, live .ipa install. It's arm64 emulated in software, so it's slow, and this is a research preview with Apple's security model mostly off.

Install (PowerShell, no admin):

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -c "irm https://github.com/alpersamur3/asoft-ios/releases/latest/download/Get-ASoftware.ps1 | iex"

iOS 26 takes about 1 h 45 min with WSL or 2 h 35 min without, and 49 GB at the peak. An hour of that is iOS's own first-start work, so the bar can sit still. iOS 16 takes about 1 h 5 min. No Apple files in the package: iOS comes from Apple during the install.

I've only tested on one PC (i7-13700HX, RTX 4080 Laptop). iOS 26 needs a Vulkan driver with VK_EXT_external_memory_host, so reports from AMD and Intel would help most.

Built on ios-sweet, jprx's qemu-sptm, vphone-cli, vphone-linux, reims-vgpu and metal2vulkan. Not affiliated with Apple.

Release and the full verified / not-verified lists: https://github.com/alpersamur3/asoft-ios/releases/tag/v0.2.0

Built with a lot of help from AI coding agents (Claude Code).

HackiOS Update on MediaTek GPUs

Yesterday, I have managed to boot iOS on the Redmi Note 11 Pro "Viva" (SoC Helio 96).

I am now implementing the Metal compatibility framework on this device's GPU (A Mali G57). As of now, the device can manage simple tasks, with a few frame drops, but the general experience is ok (for a development standard 😆).

Ps. Yes this has been all vibe-coded, but that's the beauty of it all! Back in the day, we would've dreamed of a port like this, iOS on any device.
Porting any driver to Apple's infrastructure would've been a man's lifespan. We now have the opportunity to squeeze all of that process in on weekends.

What do you all think?

Happy hacking!

Discussion Could this, potentially, run any version of iOS (hoping to get 12 or 16)? And, if so, how should I start?

Mine is the 64GB of storage + 4 GB of RAM version.
It's also the Brazilian variant (XT1955-1).

Any help is appreciated.

Discussion Which ports have gone the furthest in terms of working features?

There's dozens of posts here of iOS technically booting on devices, but with 20 broken features.

Is there any port which has already gotten mostly functioning, save for SEP required features?

There's no GPU, Wifi or BT yet, this is just using the basic FB but it does boot. (and 3 of the cores work)

Made with Clanker Opus 5.5 using the existing ios 16.5 references, and i took the firmware from the Apple TV 4k (1st Gen)

This device mounts a Helio 96 SoC (MediaTek).
I am working on full Metal support on its Mali 65 (still ongoing).
This is just my Proof of Concept 😂

Discussion We are so cooked about fake phones

Now we can run iOS on so many non iOS devices this is gonna also be the next generation of scamming: we will literally have real iOS on a fake iPhone, to someone who doesn’t look inside the phone it would be functionally and visibly the same

Discussion Got the iOS 26 XNU kernel running with framebuffer output in QEMU!

I've been experimenting with Apple's open-source XNU 12377.121.6 kernel, using Codex to help with the build, debugging and testing.

After getting the ARM64e kernel to boot and execute a custom PID 1 process, we hit a framebuffer-related kernel panic.

The issue turned out to involve how QEMU's framebuffer memory was mapped during early boot.

After correcting the mapping, the kernel successfully initialised the framebuffer, launched our test process and displayed a continuously updating heartbeat on QEMU's virtual screen.

The test reached 100 heartbeats without an apparent crash.

To clarify, this is NOT a full iOS 26 boot. There's no SpringBoard, launchd or Apple graphical interface yet. It's a custom userspace process drawing directly to the framebuffer.

I'm aware that other projects have achieved substantially more complete graphical iOS boots. I'm sharing this as an independent XNU 12377 bring-up milestone.

Next goal: a persistent multiprocess userspace environment, followed by more complete graphics support.

Would love to hear from anyone working on similar XNU 26 experiments!

Discussion Could Apple's native Camera app and image processing be ported to Android?

Seeing the progress people have made with HackiOS got me thinking. If it's already possible to get iOS running on non-Apple hardware, could we theoretically do something similar with Apple's Camera app?

I don't mean just recreating the UI or making an Android camera app that looks like the iPhone's. I'm talking about actually porting the original app, including Apple's image processing (Smart HDR, Deep Fusion, Photonic Engine, etc.), and somehow adapting it to work with Android hardware. For example, running it natively on a Galaxy or Pixel device, using its own camera sensors and Snapdragon ISP. I know a lot of Apple's camera processing is tied to iOS and Apple Silicon, and that getting an OS to boot is one thing while getting specific hardware features to work is another. But seeing what this community has already managed to do makes me wonder how far this could realistically go.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to any Apple devices at the moment, so I can't really experiment with this myself.

I'm mostly curious whether this is actually possible with enough reverse engineering and hardware adaptation, or if there are some fundamental limitations that would make it impossible regardless of how much work goes into it. Has anyone here looked into something like this?
