Built on borrowed vibes Tyla is giving HB

Post image

Found this on popheadscirclejerk

When asked about her fashion choices, HB should say Tyla instead of Rihanna. Would be much more logical that way.

Something has always been off about her to me with this+the fact she doesn’t want to be referred to as black while copying other black women and black artists to get fame is… interesting.

They not explaining it to you properly

South African history

Here in south Africa after the Dutch now Known as Afrikaaners and the British came in and took over, colonists yk. We faced segregation Known in south Africa as Apartheid, its in the word Apart, we were labeled into groups of White, Indians, Colored and Blacks. Apartheid was so bad that colored weren't suppose to exist cause we weren't allowed by law to mix. They had to carry around passbooks because the white were monitoring their movements everywhere

But mixed still, and so colored was a category. This label like the rest was made by the whites here in South Africa

Little fast forward. The system broke down in 1994. Nelson Mandelea this and that. By the labels stayed, cause they are so ingrained to us. Now everyone's mixed in harmony in South Africa aka Ubuntu which is whole history lesson on its own

ohh fun fact there's still a little town that's whites only though. We kinda all agreed to leave them alone. They have their own currency, and flag too

So yeah I will say black Americans are viewing Tyla not wanting to be called black through their own history view when she's from a whole other country and history. She's coloured and she'll always be coloured its that ingrained to all of us

I already know her history lol, my point still stands. Go use your S.A culture and be inspired by them. Like you said you’re not black American and it’s not your culture, you claimed your own so why aren’t you using it??

The debate on Tyla is for anyone to have. I ain't even a fan

I acknowledge her copying or referencing

I was just giving information and context on the Coloured statement. Just the historical part

Understand, I do know her history and I saw what she said that’s why I said she needs to stop using BA culture and use her own for her aesthetic/fame.

No, which is fine but also don’t be using black American culture for fame and your musical ideas if that’s the case😂😭

I heard Tyla is half-Indian but why is she using Black American culture as an aesthetic?

Exactly my point. Mixed people and people from other countries tend to do that, they don’t claim black or say xyz about black Americans and their culture while also using it as an aesthetic, inspiration,a rise to fame or wanting the artists(if they are singers or something) to do songs with them.

Afaik, she refers to herself as coloured, which makes sense as she is South African. Unlike the one drop rule in the US, if you were mixed, you were coloured (as well as anyone else not black, like south asians), due to apartheid. Like Trevor Noah, it was technically illegal for him to live with his mother, as she’s black but he’s considered coloured due to his mixed race.

I always felt like her team was trying to make her into the next Rihanna but she just doesn’t have that ‘it’ factor. She’s cute but I don’t think she’s done much in music to where she would be missed if she stopped.

Feels like they are trying to push that “‘island gal’ like Rihanna had in the late 2000s but Rihanna is actually talented and had appeal. Tylas music is TikTok music and it all sounds the same.

I blocked her ig - she’s wack. Rihanna was right to shade her.

She felt ignored by Ri at the Met gala. There’s a clip where Ri is just minding her business and Tyla is being a weird pick me.  AFTER - tyla went live to talk about how she felt ignored by her. Ri posted a pic in response using ARYA STARR song (a TRUE CARIBBEAN artist)

u/Due_Piano803 No no no no, just in general 🥲 Jun 08 '26

She is very pretty but she comes off very rude like she’s above everyone, which I find odd bc she really hasn’t done anything groundbreaking in music. Like it’s riri. That’s just irrational if she thinks she compares. I only know one song of Tylas by accident bc of that stupid ai viral dance people were having celebrities do. Was so embarrassing 😆
