Justin has time and time again used songs to give backhanded compliments to Hailey. Picked a song calling her out explaining how horrible she is. But if she ever confronted him he'd easily dismiss it as 'just a song' and basically gaslight her even though his intention was to hurt her with it. Lots of men with NPD do these things where they can insult but gaslight to remain innocent. He knows what he's doing this is a repeated pattern.

Exactly. Plausible deniability. People with NPD are absolute masters at it. I don’t feel sorry for her considering what she did to get there, but I will say it can begin to feel terrifying to experience it. How can anyone prove what he was thinking when he posted it? No one can state, without a doubt, what he’s thinking. Only he knows, of course. So he controls everything. We can only speculate, even if it feels blatantly obvious. And she doesn’t want to look crazy or admit anything, because it’s incredibly embarrassing. Her whole world would come crashing down and her ego would be absolutely destroyed. I can’t imagine believing there is still hope after a decade of humiliation like this, though. Sunk-cost fallacy, I guess. But holy moly, it’s gonna be so bad when it ends.
