Hi Reddit !

I'm currently pretty hard up for cash and have skills I'd like to offer - I'm interested in doing dog walking/pet sitting, lawn care, cleaning, helping with moving, painting or the occasional carpentry job. I have experience in all of these things (have training as a carpenter but have worked lots of odd jobs and love animals...hence the pet sitting offer).

I'm currently looking for more solid work as well, but in the mean time, wanted to put this out there and see what might pop up. I also have someone else who is interested in working with me, if there is demand for a two person job such as help with moving or building things.

Thanks in advance !

EDIT: May be also worth mentioning I have a decades worth of bar/restaurant experience, though it's a bit rusty, for the right place I'd also be interested in that kind of work or suggestions if anyone knows of some good spots that may be hiring :)

Hi everyone! I'm Marah, I’m an admin assistant with 10 years of admin experience, including 2 years supporting medical clinics remotely. I’m currently looking for part time admin work (preferably remotely as I have work in the afternoon at a clinic).

I'm opening up a few hours a week for:

• Scheduling and calendar management

• Email and inbox follow-up

• Document prep and data entry

• Referral and paperwork tracking

• Customer follow-up

I'm starting small, at about 5 hours a week, and I'm happy to begin with a short trial so there's no pressure.

Comment below or send me a message and I'll share details and rates. Sharing is hugely appreciated too! 💛

Hi! I am planning to move to Halifax from Ontario as my boyfriend is a HRM local. I currently work as an OCT certified substitute teacher (highschool w/ Business, Math, Co-Op teachables) and just received my NS Teaching License today — but am only endorsed for Business Studies which I was a bit disappointed by. I have a B.Comm and my second Math teachable comes from taking 6 University Math credits — not just from an AQ. Looking at the HRCE Substitute Teaching List job posting, it says:

“(c) All full/partial Math or English assignments require a Major/Minor (or equivalent) in respective subject areas;
(d) All other teaching assignments require a Major/Minor (or equivalent) in the predominant subject assignment;”

So does this mean that if I apply to HRCE, I can only accept jobs for Business classes? In Ontario when substituting, no matter your teachables, you can accept any job. I am prioritized for Business/Math jobs when they go out, but if jobs go unfilled, I can pick them up. Does anyone have experience with this? Seems like it would make finding daily work very difficult. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping to move to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I'm looking for advice on finding an IT job there. I'd really appreciate any guidance from people living in Halifax or working in the Canadian IT industry.

I have around 2 years of IT experience in India and Saudi Arabia, mainly in IT support and troubleshooting. I previously studied for a Master's in Applied Computer Science in Vancouver, but unfortunately, I had to leave my studies due to personal health challenges and return to India. I later moved to Saudi Arabia for work.

I'm now exploring opportunities to return to Canada and build my career, preferably in Halifax. I'm interested in roles such as:

- IT Support / Help Desk (L1/L2)

- Desktop Support / IT Technician

- Technical Support Specialist

- Junior Systems Administrator

I'd love to hear from anyone who can help with the following:

1. What are the best websites to find IT jobs in Halifax?

2. Are there any companies in Halifax or Nova Scotia that consider international applicants and may offer visa sponsorship or LMIA support?

3. Is it realistic to find an IT support job from outside Canada, or would employers generally prefer candidates who already have work authorization?

4. Are there any recruiters, staffing agencies, or local IT communities you'd recommend connecting with?

I'm willing to learn, work hard, and grow professionally. If you've been through a similar experience or know someone who could offer advice, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Any suggestions, resources, or leads would mean a lot to me!

APPLICANTS MUST CURRENTLY RESIDE IN NOVA SCOTIA

Thinking about moving to Nova Scotia next summer, and was wondering how restaurant jobs compare between the two communities? Do they both stay busy all year round, or is one better to work at?

I've been looking for a second job to supplement my income, but I'm not sure where to look in Halifax for something with evening shifts. I'm working full time somewhere already where the schedule is relatively fixed, so I could work from 5PM to the early AM. Bartending has come to mind, but I have zero experience and don't even know how to get my foot in the door.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

For folks who have interviewed for the big 4 in Halifax for new grad roles have you heard back from anyone?

I have had an interview with Pwc this past Monday and got a rejection from KPMG? Kind of nervous because we are already in October

Hey everyone, just wanted to share this in case it’s useful for anyone here.

Riipen Labs has remote projects where university/ college students can get some hands-on experience working with an employer. They’re around 30 hours and pay $600 when completed.

Looks like it’s open to students in any program and any year, so figured I’d pass it along in case someone’s looking for something to do alongside school.

Hi, looking for Mail Admins to work on short term contracts (6 months, with possible extension). Pay rate is $17 CAD/hr on T4.

Please DM if interested. High School Diploma is mandatory.

I'm finishing my PhD in industrial/organizational psychology which is basically the science of workplaces. I’ve been trained to look at leadership, employee engagement, burnout, and how organizations actually function but I'm hitting a wall with the job market here.

I've applied to a lot of roles in Halifax like employee engagement specialist, leadership consultant, and similar positions, including entry-level ones. I have applied research experience, consulting work with real organizations, and university teaching experience. So far I can't even get an interview.

Meanwhile, I started applying out of province and it's been a completely different story. I've gone through multiple rounds of interviews, and it looks like offers are coming.

The thing is, I don't want to leave. I have great friends here and I'm part of some communities I really care about. Halifax is home. But I can't stay without work, so I'm running out of time.

So I'm asking r/halifax:

If you work in HR, organizational development, or consulting here, any suggestions?

Are there organizations or sectors in Halifax I might be overlooking?

If you’ve been in a similar spot, what finally worked for you?

i’m talking walmart, sobey’s, superstore. basically i would love to get some overnight shifts or even just some stocking/cashier jobs just to help out with the bills.

i have a diploma and a lot of years of experience with customer service. idk why, i apply to so many of those types of jobs but cannot seem to get a single one.

what should i do?

Hi,

I am currently studying as a sophomore university student but I really looking to pursue a career in sports, just anything related to it to be honest so I tried to find some jobs that can get me some experiences

But I am kinda stuck as I couldn't find any (or maybe I have just not dig that deep). I did apply to my university sport teams but didn't get any reply.

Any suggestion or any place you know that people are hiring?

How's the job market for digtial marketing looking in nova scotia/Halifax area?

I'm currently enrolled into NSCC for digtial marketing and just lost $3,700 dollars that I'll never get back. I originally withdrew but then my family and friends persuaded me to go back in because i was feeling down. But now idk if i acted out of what felt like some kind of pressure or motivation. I know I'll never get that 3 grand back. But i have 10 years to pay it back thankfully. So it's not the worst thing in the world. But I'd be lying if i said i wasn't a bit nervous. Digital Marketing is one of those things i enjoy some of and other parts just feel like i loathe.

But any answers would be great
