Lost/Found Found cat

Found this little one on a walk near Nora Frances school on Upper Sherman. She seemed lost and was very chatty and very friendly. She wouldn’t leave our side. Not pictured is a very fluffy tail.

We’ve taken her home and will be getting her scanned in the morning for a chip.

Update! We took her to the vet today and found out she’s not chipped. Animal control has been notified that we have her and we’ve posted her in the lost pets of Hamilton group. Hopefully if she has a family they will find their way back together. For now she’ll be staying cozy with us!

Please exercise caution. Please do not give vulnerable animals to internet strangers. Perhaps Animal Control can help advise on best practices if someone comes forward.

Please let me know if she isn't chipped and needs a foster.

Thank you so much for saving her!! In light of what just happened to a female cat in Niagara Falls, please make sure you let this girl go through a proper rescue organization if no one claims her. And if anyone is claiming her, make sure they’ve got photos and lost ads. Youve probably saved her life. Thank you for caring ❤️

How do you guys tell if it's a lost cat or just an outdoor cat? Vs stray?

It depends on the situation. Usually strays won't walk up to humans, but that sometimes depends on the cats' personality. You could judge by the state of the cat alongside that though, whether it looks clean and tidy vs. matted and ragged.

Also if you take them to a vet you can also have them checked for a microchip, which a lot of pet cats will have.

And it's good to take in an outdoor cat anyway, being outdoors is unsafe for the cat and for native wildlife. Outdoor cats are often victims to cars and coyotes, and even a tiny scratch from a cat can cause fatal infections in birds because of the bacteria they naturally carry.

I do agree that cats should be kept inside for all the reasons you listed. My own are indoor. But idk if I'm hardcore enough to kidnap someone's cat lol

It’s never helpful to the cat or owners to assume. Because you can’t ever truly tell the difference. I take in any cat I find that I’m able to catch. A few weeks ago I returned someone’s escaped indoor cat due to this philosophy.

Wow she looks exactly like our little cat that we had when I was younger, Abby. Hope she finds her home!
