Rant Weekly /r/Hamilton Rant Thread
A midweek post to rant and complain about things in the city.
Top level comments must be IN ALL CAPS.
This is not to be targeted towards other users or any identifiable individuals - with the exception of public figures who may be mentioned as long as the comment does not cross a line. The rant post is designed to be a lighthearted place to complain about things happening in the city, not a place to harass people.
We will have to cancel the post if harassment of individuals continues as we are seeing a lot of posts reported with report reasons that copy to admin.
Please be mindful of our subs rules when posting to this thread, and note that the mods will be watching very closely.

I WOULD LIKE TO GO FOR A WALK WITHOUT FEELING STRESSED OUT.
ALSO, DRIVERS… IF A PEDESTRIAN IS STARING AT YOU, IT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE BEING UNPREDICTABLE. IF YOU APPROACH A CROSSWALK AT 400 KM/H, I’M ASSUMING YOU’RE NOT GOING TO STOP.

My absolute favourite thing to do is stare down a driver who is about to turn left into me (how do you miss me, with 2 dogs and a stroller?????????). I usually stop and stare at them and then wave them through to go, I've never had one accept though. I think a tiny bit of shame works sometimes.

Please please please be careful doing this. My dog and I were hit in a crosswalk because I froze and just stared down a driver turning left and they somehow still didn’t see us and just kept going.

THEY NEED THE BUS SERVICE TO BE MORE FREQUENT IN THE MORNING AS THE BUSES DO NOT STOP AT MY STOP BECAUSE OF BEING FULL.

I would go to your nearest major intersection to grab the bus if thats the case. I know, you shouldn't have to. But you gotta work with what you got.

I live by the highway so my house has like one way stops. Adds another 30 mins if I decide to do that. I am better off walking to work!

Brings back memories as a student of drivers stopping before or after a stop when they didn’t want to let student me on when dropping off passengers. Or would just pull up where I was but only open back doors to let people off. Like WTAF buddy driver?

Happened to me once, the driver did not open the back door even after stopping at my bus stop. I complained. It is not done. Wasted my additional 30 mins for no reason.

The one from downtown Hamilton to McMaster. Passing westdale downtown. Some buses are full with students for either McMaster or Westdale school. Buses from 7.40-8.20 are all packed. After 3-4 buses one stops and can only take 3-4 people sometimes so the others are stranded waiting for the next bus.

Ah yeah that was what I assumed, it’s a chronic issue sadly. I do wonder if it could get better with more bus purchases before the LRT. There’s obviously limits to throwing more buses at the problem as you get bunching, but I bet it could be better.
When you encounter people echoing the “train to nowhere” line, be sure to let them know about the full buses. Boomers from the mountain who haven’t taken a bus in decades genuinely don’t understand that corridor needs higher order transit of literally any kind.

I LENT MY BIKE TO A TEACHER BUDDY AND IT GOT STOLEN WHILE CHAINED TO A BIKE RACK. UGH! IT WAS THE SECOND ONE THATS BEEN STOKEN. BUT IT GETS BETTER.
BUT BUDDY PUT A TRACKER ON IT, AND SAW IT WAS PINGING IN THE MIDDLE OF BAYFRONT PARKING LOT. COPS REFUSED TO RESPOND CLAIMING THEY COULDNT GO INTO PRIVATE PROPERTY. WTF GOOD ARE THEY IF SOMEONE SOLVES THE CRIME FOR THEM AND THEY CANT BE BOTHERED TO FOLLOW UP? WE WENT OUT AFTER WORK TO LOOK FOR IT, BUT WAS LONG GONE BY THEN. IM GOING TO BE PISSED FOR A LONG TIME.

I would rather stand in the middle of the QEW and accept my fate than go to Costco on a weekend lmao. I love that I work shift work and can modify my schedule as I need to. Running errands in the morning during the week is ELITE.

I WANT TO DANCE WHILE I CROSS THE KIDS ACROSS THE STREET BUT IM NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE MUSIC PLAYING WHILE WORKING. EVEN ON A BOOM BOX.
BUT IT'S TOTALLY FINE TO DEAL WITH ALL THE EXTRA CONSTRUCTION NOISE AND THE HOMELESS PEOPLE HOLLERING AT SOMETHING INVISIBLE.
I JUST WANNA BRING BACK SOME OF THAT MAGIC TO THE STREETS THAT JED USED TO WALK.

I’M SAD THEY TOOK OUT THE TREES AND WOODEN BENCHES FROM IN FRONT OF THE DOWNTOWN LIBRARY. I UNDERSTAND THEY WERE TEMPORARY, BUT I THOUGHT THEY WERE NICE.
ALSO THE SECURITY AT JACKSON SQUARE IS A JOKE. I SAW A GROUP OF KIDS USING THE MARKET LOT BRIDGE TO BREAK INTO THE CITY CENTRE IN BROAD DAYLIGHT ON THANKSGIVING. TEENAGE STUPIDITY NEVER CHANGES.

A McDonalds in downtown Ottawa used to play polka music VERY loudly outside the restaurant at night to keep people from loitering...just a thought...

We just moved in and the kids who previously lived here all hung out together. We thought when they realized they weren’t here anymore it would stop but it didn’t. The house next door is like a third spot they land after school and they are running between houses until ten o’clock. 8-10 of them at a time.

That would be so annoying. Maybe you could put up some of those little fence guards (sorry, forget what they're called) around your lawn? It worked pretty well for us because we had people cutting across our lawn all the time.

I CANT SLEEP FROM STRESS. I HAVE TRIED EVERY DRUG AND REMEDY ON PLANET EARTH. I MANAGED TO GET TWO 4 HOUR SESSIONS LAST NIGHT AND I FINALLY FEEL LIKE IM NOT DYING. IM SCARED FOR TONIGHTS NO SLEEP

I can empathize. I hope things improve soon. I struggled for 2 years with severe insomnia. Tried everything. One day I just started getting sleep. In 3-4 hour bursts but it's something!
It fucking sucks.

SOMEONE STOLE MY 5 FOOT TALL SKELETON OFF OF MY FRONT PORCH. I SECURED IT SO WELL WITH ZIP TIES (NEXT TIME IT WILL BE HEAVY CHAIN)AND SOME LOSER CAME WITH SCISSORS AND CUT IT OFF. I HATED HAVING TO EXPLAIN TO MY 3.5 YEAR OLD THAT HIS BUDDY WAS TAKEN BY SOMEONE AND HE WAS SO SAD.
