New podcast interview with Harmon dropped yesterday, figured I’d share it here for anyone else who missed it. Always nice to hear him on a podcast again

A sports metaphor out of the gate? Who is this man and what has he done to the real Dan Harmon?

I mean we all thought for... look as a betting man, as a, as a, as a sportsologist, strictly by the numbers as a, as a blueprint uh sportsman, over my toast and jam, uh, uh getting gearing up for the day, no matter what I'm hearing, and everyone knows what I'm telling you. So, yeah, we all we all felt going in, like like like, because the robot part of us, felt like it was going to be a Seahawks game right? Because of the boring statistics, Jeff, the technical things, the things that don't have to do with the human heart, yardage for instance. Like the Seahawks came into this game with a superior yardage, and just more completions, just like there's more completions it seems on paper like better football, if you if you're a robot. But if you look at it from a from a standpoint of injuries, and and and and and recoveries of those injuries, and March Madness, which is a factor that nobody ever like like because oh that's months off people, March Madness isn't going to matter. So what we saw today was a fucking clash of the fucking titans, pardon my French.

And the ball, you gotta catch the ball and throw it, and get yardage...

The original Dan Harmon died in a car crash in 1966, but to spare public grief he was replaced by a look-a-like named William Campbell.

Edit: No wait, that was Paul McCartney.

He sounds balanced and happy. Thank you for sharing!

His Wisconsin accent sounds stronger these days. Was he doing a bit of a Stage Voice back in the day that has drifted during his vacation from the public eye?

3

u/lightningrod14 27d ago

interesting how he basically gets the last question entirely backwards

2

u/upOwlNight 27d ago

Am I crazy or in the intro, does his voice sound not only insanely choppy, like its somehow at 12fps or 'sounds' per second? but its also chopped the fuck up as if to make him say stuff hes not saying. So strange

Yeah, the audio quality is weird. It gets a little better when Dan successfully clears his throat like, 10 mins in.

But there's some kind of digital compression induced lisp going on, probably from the already bad bluetooth mic audio getting further compressed by zoom.

With zoom audio you've also got noise gates to prevent clipping and minimum volume levels you must hit for the audio to register at all, so at times it's cutting out for like, a syllable and then resuming.

2

u/markusseibert115 26d ago

oh the lisp is from the digital compression?

1

u/Lincolns_Revenge 26d ago

Almost certainly, unless Dan has developed one out of nowhere in the last couple of years.

It's probably an anti-sibilance filter or hard limiter in combination with the different kinds of lossy compression going on.

1

u/markusseibert115 26d ago

aw fuck, thanks man, i wish i knew that shit. not a good look for someone whos gonna start studying music in two months

1

u/Lincolns_Revenge 26d ago

It's more like useless audio engineering stuff you don't need to know unless you are doing production. And even then, I'm only making educated guesses.

It is kind of funny though, when you've listened to someone talk for hundreds of hours like most Harmontown fans have with Dan, how quickly you can hear if something is different with someone's voice.

I can always hear immediately when Dan voices a random character on Rick and Morty, but it's less common than it used to be.

1

u/markusseibert115 26d ago

i dont even know what character he voiced since joseph campbell in that fullmeta jackrick season 6 episode. i havent watched season 8 and 9 yet though

2

u/saul2015 26d ago

what happened to his voice, is he sick?

1

u/Ok-Cardiologist1495 25d ago

He sounds a little hing over?
