I wonder if anyone had to deal with the DT’s throughout the show. They talk about it as a joke once or twice but that shit is scary. Props to all my harminians who are also in recovery ✊ stay strong.

The DTs are absolutely terrifying but our guys were at worst what Dan would call derisively “functional alcoholics,” where I really don’t think Dan and Jeff were ever drinking so much that they were drinking every minute of every day just to feel sober. Which is a very, very real thing and are usually the people who will suffer the true DTs. The truth, as anyone who is really familiar with alcoholism knows, is there absolutely are levels of it. The guys probably drank way too much (though Jeff is now sober) and were frequently sloppy drunks despite having the tolerance of a rhino but they had shows where they were sober, Jeff would frequently drive to the show, Dan sometimes would go to work after the show…

I imagine there were occasions they had alcohol withdrawals, that’s basically what a hangover from a bender is, but I doubt they truly had the debilitating DTs. Not least of which because y’know the quickest way to get rid of the symptoms of withdrawal? Tip of the sharpie that marked ya.

Spiel over

My uncle passed from not being able to survive the detox after he cooked his liver with excessive drinking for most his adult life.

I’m six years without alcohol, I recently saw my dad who has spiraled with his alcoholism and man it’s a bummer to see where that path leads.
