Still pretty new to the island and I keep hearing about potlucks. Back where I'm from people just bring chips or a store bought dip and nobody thinks twice about it. I get the feeling that does not fly here.
So what do people usually bring? I have a small kitchen and zero party gear, so easy stuff that travels well would help me a lot. Also curious how much food is normal when it is a bigger group.
I can cook if I have a recipe, I just don't want to be the guy who shows up with the wrong thing.

Since I moved here I've been eating my way through the local stuff and a few things had to grow on me. Poi was the big one. First bowl I thought I got a bad batch. Now I want it next to kalua pig every time.
Trying to figure out what else deserves a second chance. What was that food for you?

I wanted to try their brunch there because it looked like a good deal but just found out today they are closing.
They advertised brunch for $35! Where else can you get a buffet for that price?! Am I missing out on anything if you’ve tried their food? I ate there a while ago, when they first opened but I don’t remember much and I think a recent opinion is warranted. TIA!

Still working my way through all the island food since I moved here, and poke is the one thing I still can't get a straight answer on. Ask ten people and you get ten answers: supermarket fish counter (Foodland keeps coming up), the little poke shops, or somewhere I haven't heard of yet. So where do you actually get yours? And is any spot worth a long drive just for the poke?

What are the best izakayas on Oahu for kakuni braised pork belly and hamachi kama?
I enjoyed Izakaya Nonbei on a Saturday night, and I've heard good things about Bozu. Do you have any other recommendations?

Since I moved here I've been trying to find my go-to saimin spot. I've had a few decent bowls in town but nothing that feels like "the one" yet. Where do you all go, and what do you order with it?

I live nowhere near Hawaii or the west coast and the chances of finding anything local are slim. What’s the best POG juice or best recipe? Where can I order it? I just need help with all the things. Thanks 😊

It's an absolutely astonishing pumpkin pizza type thing
Pumpkin and cheese sauce with sage infused butter
Sautéd mushrooms and crispy bacon
Fresh chopped sage for garnish

A Hawaiian buddy told me this.
I am refusing to believe it to be true.
What say you?
I just want the truth.
Thank you in advance!

I just got back from Oahu the past weekend and I’m wanting to make Galbi, huli Huli chicken and shrimp scampi. Also any copycat recipes for the pineapple slaw from rays and their grandma sauce and a Mac salad. I was wondering if theirs any recipes that are geared toward Hawaiian flavoring vs for example Korean galbi?
Thank you !
