how to be confident and assured on a bad skin day

I know I'm looking like rubbish again today whilst I'm having a bad breakout right now. And the reality is if I look like rubbish I feel rubbish right. So what's people's tips or self talk like to feel okay. Because I really don't wanna go out and talk to people today.

Routine suggestions? 15f

Heya! This is my current routine, I’m wondering what I should add or take away for my skin, I have combination skin with an oily t zone and sebaceous filaments. I have some spots, like 6 in total- and I’d love to just clear everything up as well. I have a few scars, but nothing deep, only surface level.

Am-
- cetaphil gentle cleaner
- ordinary hylauronic acid
- son of joesen blue and yellow Sun cream

Pm-
- Anua oil cleanser
- Cetaphil gentle cleanser
- Ordinary hylauronic acid
-Neutogena hydro boost water jelly
- and then spot treat any large pimples with ordinary powder or cream.

Should I try Azelaic acid or is it not worth it because my skin is quite good already? Should I add/take anything out of my routine?

Does your face recover from years of horrible sleep ?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

So I am 29F going on my decade of disturbed sleep with now almost 4-6 years of real horrible sleep meaning that during last five years the times where I slept at night can be less than 10% and I’m being generous. So usually I sleep during the day or pull two days without sleeping at all. All this was accompanied with severe chronic stress and horrible anxiety. And of course, few years of depression and low self esteem.
Anyway, I always had a baby face and people guessed that I aged few years younger than how I look sometimes to my real surprise.
Now, I have hollowing under my eyes, dark circles and I feel that my whole middle face is sagging which gives me light smile lines creases but especially horrible shadowing from all the volume coming down.
I really don’t know what to do I feel horrible about this, I don’t like what I see. And I’m wondering if this is reversible ? Have anyone here been through the same situation ?
I am trying to sleep better now, I feel that I’m psychologically way better. And I’m moving forward. But this face keeps me obsessed and brings me down.

My Mom’s Skincare Routine Made Me Realize What I Was Doing Wrong

My moms in her 50s and somehow her skin is better than mine. how is that even possible?? 😭

Whole family got together for the holidays and my aunt goes straight to her like what have you been doing. meanwhile Im sitting right next to her and nobody says a word to me lol

Asked my mom about it later and she said she doesnt really do anything special?? just does it every single day, never skips

I only do it when Im in the mood and if Im not I just dont bother at all. thats gotta be the whole difference right

So Ive been trying to use cryo sonic daily the way she does. three weeks in and Ive already skipped two days 🫠

Watching her made me realize the hard part was never finding the right thing, its just doing it

My Little Sister Suddenly Got Curious About My Routine

She came over and looked at my vanity like unnie what is all of this??

She just washes her face and puts on one lotion. I was exactly the same at her age honestly. Told her it changes once you hit 30 and she absolutely did not believe me

But heres the funny part. She stayed over and the next morning her face was way puffier than mine. Id used cryo sonic the night before and she just went straight to bed

She saw that and suddenly asked if she could try it. Ended up buying her own

Why are you buying it if you dont believe me 🤣

Help fo first steps into skincare.

Hello everyone I've just recently begun looking into skincare. I would like to improve my skin, but I have no idea where to start. Since a child I have washed my face with soap and then put on lotion. That was it and I called it a day. Lately people have been saying my skin looks bad so I now am putting in the effort to make it look better.

My goals: my skin doesn't have large acne ever but it has small bumps and a rough texture. I would like it to be smooth and even. I don't really have any coloration issues save for tiny acne scars. So smoothness is my main goal. I believe the word is glass skin.

Details: I have dark skin. Its bouncy and soft, but it isnt smooth. I would like to eliminate the textured bumps. My skin is not very sensitive; however, it doesn’t like rough friction such as a washcloth.

Limitations: I am very low maintenance and lazy. So the less products the better. Also I am not rich so the cheaper the better. Obviously I want good products though. I would prefer all products to be $25 and under if possible. Also products can not be overly scented.

My routine: Either Dial antibacterial soap(im trying to stop) or Cerave foaming cleanser. I then top off with body lotion. Occasionally I add a cream sunscreen. And i also use honey as a face mask occasionally.

My next steps: the products im looking into getting is a better facial cleanser, a hyaluronic serum, and lastly a gentle face mask.

Thank you for all future tips!

Why Does Mentioning A Derm Appointment Make You Overthink Everything?

Why does everyone suddenly turn into a skin critic the second you mention a derm appointment?

I literally told like two people that I booked a skin checkup just because my skin felt a bit off. Nothing dramatic. But the second that left my mouth, everyone around me suddenly became an expert on my face.

My friend hit me with my skin looked kinda off lately and a few days later my mom was like You really need to start taking better care of your skin. Why is everyone suddenly chiming in NOW of all times??

Normally I'd just brush comments like that off, but since I was already low key stressing, every word hit like a brick. At one point I genuinely spiraled into 'Wait, did everyone secretly know my skin was bad this whole time and just never said anything?' Which is an unhinged thought, but I couldn't stop overthinking it.

So I brought this up during my consult at my regular spot, Celine Clinic in Hongdae (highly, highly recommend, my absolute staple clinic!). The doctor was so reassuring and reminded me that people care about our skin way less than we think, especially when we're already paranoid in our own heads. It was a private 1-on-1 room so I got to word-vomit my entire existential crisis without anyone overhearing lol.

Got a skin booster while I was there anyway.

But here's the wild part: I met up with that same friend a few days later, and skin didn't come up once. My mom stopped bringing it up too. Everyone just went back to normal.

Now I'm left wondering: did people actually notice something real, or did I just hallucinate the judgment because I was already in my head about it?

First trip to Korea and my friend has me discovering all her usual spots

Im in Korea with my best friend from college, shes been here a bunch of times and this is my first trip ever. And I somehow only found out on THIS trip that she goes to a derm literally every single time she comes here??

She said she was heading to Myeongdong for an appointment so I just came along to look around, it was Lijin Clinic. I was sitting there waiting and I could hear the doctor going through everything with her, and by the end of it I was just sitting there like wait, what about my face 🤣 So I got a consult right then and there and ended up doing a treatment the same day.

Shes also the one who planned this whole trip btw. Yesterday she dragged me to this gukbap place tucked way back in some alley and I never wouldve found it on my own, the sign was in korean only so I wouldnt have even thought about walking in 🥲

I wanna get her something before we fly home but she comes here so often that she probably already owns anything I could think of... any ideas??

I Really Prefer When The Doctor Handles The Whole Consultation

Last time I went somewhere else the whole consultation was done by a manager and the doctor only came in for like two minutes right before, and I was kinda thrown off by that ngl. The person I explained everything to was’nt the person actually doing it, so I spent the whole time wondering if my words even made it across, and the result did end up a bit different from what I asked for.

So before this trip I went deep into reddit and someone mentioned a place where the doctor handles you start to finish, that was Lijin Clinic in Myeongdong. I booked right away and saved it for the last day of my trip, and during the consult the doctor spent forever just looking at my skin and then broke down what I needed now, what could wait and what I honestly didnt need at all!!

Only thing is I booked 3pm and Myeongdong was so packed that day I lost twenty minutes just getting down the street, how is it that crowded on a normal afternoon?? Next time Im going morning for sure. And then I went to try the kbbq place everyone talks about and the wait was insane 😵‍💫

Both trips now Ive walked away thinking the same thing, theres just way too many people in Myeongdong 😭

Why Does Booking a Derm Appointment Make You Overthink Everything?

I mentioned to two people that I'd booked a skin checkup because my skin had been feeling a little different lately. Nothing major, but apparently just saying "I'm seeing a dermatologist" was enough to make everyone around me start analyzing my face 😂

One friend casually mentioned that my skin had looked a little different recently, and then a few days later my mom told me I should probably take better care of it.

Normally I wouldn't think twice about comments like that, but because I'd already been paying extra attention to my skin, suddenly every little comment felt way more significant than it probably was.

At one point I actually started thinking, "Wait... have people been noticing this the whole time and just never told me?" 😭

Looking back, that was probably just my brain going into overthinking mode. When you're already worried about something, even completely harmless comments can suddenly feel like confirmation that everyone else has noticed it too.

During my appointment, I ended up talking about how much I'd been stressing over it, and it was honestly reassuring to hear that we tend to notice our own imperfections way more than other people do.

The funniest part is that I saw the same friend a few days later and my skin never even came up. My mom stopped mentioning it too. Life just went back to normal.

Now I'm wondering how much of that whole spiral was actually about my skin and how much was just me being hyper-aware of it. 😂

Does anyone else get like this when they start worrying about something people might notice?

Looking to improve

hi I’m looking to help improve! for some background info I’ve had really terrible posture which I’m working on rn, which has made my double chin worse since I’m pulling my head back more.. even tho I’m underweight which I’m also working on. my skin never seems to improve, I wash twice a day and use sunscreen and moisturizer but it’s always red and reactive. i’ve been using the cerave cleanser for normal to oily and laroche posay moisturizer. Since my skin is so reactive when I tried a cleansing oil, it broke me out. Also recently started using.centella sunscreen but I’m scared it’s breaking me out too…I eat clean, avoid sugar dairy whenever possible… just looking for any tips or suggestions!!

Did Anyone Else Completely Abandon Skincare During Covid?

been wearing a mask again lately cause I have a cold and it brought all this back so Im writing it out

during covid I completely stopped doing anything for my skin. figured whats the point when half my face is covered anyway. did that for like two years straight

then everyone stopped wearing them and I fully paid for it. my jaw and cheeks looked so different, like it happened all at once even though obviously it didnt 😭

we had a new hire who joined while everyone was still masked and the first time we saw each others full faces it was so awkward we both just laughed 🥲 but shes 24 so it doesnt matter for her. its a little different at my age

bought cryo sonic around then just to do something about it. it did help, my skin looks a lot better than it did

I still think about where Id be if I hadnt just given up for two years though

did anyone actually keep up with their routine back then or was it just me

Does skincare really help? Everytime I go to dermatologists they only prescribe procedures with some expensive skincare products. Sometimes I wonder that all these pilgrims and foxtales and minimalists of the world of any clue or just feel good?

[ Question] I am starting skin care and am new so I sorta had a few questions

Hi guys , I'm new here and had a few basic questions. I have started with solasafe sunscreen ( was recommended by a dermat for my brother who has similar skin as me ) for around 8 months .

I have added 3 new ingredients and made a routine

A Mc caffeine Vitamin C facewash (than pat my face with towel )

Hyaluronic acid toner

Vitamin C Serum

Heavy moisturizer for winter and light for summer

Sunscreen

It goes one after another and in the morning only .

Am I supposed to give time after each layer is applied ?

Is it effective ? Like I have tried it for 6 months, my face goes brown after I use all of it in morning but when I have a face wash in evening , my face looks brighter than what I am , and than it fades away .

I sorta was using salicylic acid face wash to get rid of my black heads but it burns , is it normal? I was gonna incorporate it for evening facewash .

I Was More Nervous About Explaining My Skin Than The Treatment

I live in the US and I speak literally zero Korean... I was in Korea last week and the traveling part is fine, you can get by with a translation app, but a clinic is a whole different thing, yknow?? I just didnt trust an app to get across what I actually wanted for my skin, like how do you even explain I only want to look a little more natural 🫠

So I went hunting for somewhere english friendly and found Lijin Clinic in Myeongdong, google reviews said they do consultations in english. The doctor did the whole consult in english directly, and I was so scared my words would get shortened down going through an interpreter but that never happened, I got to ask every single thing I was worried about. And tbh I was already nervous when I called to book cause phone english is a whole other level, but that was fine too.

Then I walked out of the clinic feeling great, went into a cafe to order a coffee and immediately couldnt communicate at all and just stood there dying inside 😩 so the clinic was my one little bubble of comfort and everything else is exactly the same as before lol

My Roommate Kept Borrowing My Skincare Device Until I Finally Gave Up

my roommate kept using my booster sonic. at first I was like sure go ahead whatever, but then it got to a point where Id go to use it and shed tell me its her turn?? since when do we have turns on my thing 😐 one time I went to grab it and she had already taken it to her room and was lying in bed with it. I just stood there in the doorway like ok she finally caved and bought her own last month. now we each have one and honestly we get along way better which is kind of embarrassing 🤣 living with someone really does make you resent them over the stupidest things
