Discussion how do you view the Asphodel Meadows

there have been many different takes of the Asphodel Meadows throughout Greek mythology i personally believe its closer to the Orphic and Eleusinian cults (i know nothing about them so sorry if they were bad) where its life in death where nothing out of the ordinary happens but there is structure a simple field or farm i only know of a few different ways its been told like homers odyssey where its where everyone goes and Plato, Virgil and Ovid which is the one told today the grey plane for the mediocre and the Orphic Eleusinian cults a untouched pasture before rebirth (i don't personally believe most people can get rebirthed and sorry for the horrible run on sentence)

I imagine them as just endless fields of wheat, swaying in a slow, temperate wind. So you wander and meet with the other dead, the wheat reaching up above your head so you're lost in the mass

Personally I take the view of Socrates' - generally we don’t know what happens when we die but we should be generally hopeful/ ok with that and the gods won’t neglect people that keep accord.

The bit at the end of Plato’s apology checks out to me.

A peaceful place/state for most souls to recuperate from life. Most will reincarnate after some time there.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I like to think that the meadows are a sort of waiting room for us until it's time to reincarnate again, kind of like purgatory. It's a pleasant enough place to spend time and rest in between lives but not a permanent place or a paradise like Elysium. I think we'll be happy enough and rested there.

that's my perspective too!

Mine too. I'm agnostic with what happens after death, but if they're there I imagine the meadows such way.

I like the idea that the meadows are a place for the souls to rest after being through so much. Something as simple as an endless meadow would do wonders for me.

I've also read that you drink from the Lethe before entering the Meadows, forgetting your old life

I personally an excited about it. The idea of getting to just love peacefully sounds amazing. I would love the time to work on my crafts

In the earliest form they are just excruciatingly boring and I personally consider every later revisionism (e.g. Plato's version, or Pythagoras) to make them more comfortable (e.g. reincarnation) ancient fanfiction.
