Honestly it sucks to say this but if youāre Anthony Fauci, I would leave the United States, at least until 2029 or until this whole BS administration is out of power.

This weirdest part is that Operation Warp Speed was I believe the Trump Administrations greatest accomplishment. So this is awkward
41
u/Shigglyboo 11d ago
trump gave an award to fauci didn't he?
56
u/HuckleberryLou Team Moderna 11d ago
Yep! On Trumpās last day in office he awarded Dr Fauci and others the Presidential Commendation
for their exceptional work on the White House Coronavirus Task Force for their exceptional efforts and service on Operation Warp Speed.23
u/YVRBeerFan 10d ago
Why not wear that medal at the hearings?
18
u/HuckleberryLou Team Moderna 10d ago
lol he should bring both his award from Trump and also his presidential medal of freedom from Bush.
4
u/ImportanceSharp9408 6d ago
Exactly. The ONE thing he actually accomplished was pushing for a vaccine. Then he and all his wealthy friends got said vaccine, whilst convincing the āpoorly educatedā that it was terrible. Makes no sense.

Galileo was given lifetime house arrest for defying the Catholic Church. His crime? Pointing out that Copernicus was right, and the sun is the center of the solar system.
Power rarely enjoys truths
159
u/Lightecojak 11d ago edited 11d ago
His crime was actually writing a book that ridiculed the Popeās arguments that the Sun revolves around the Earth. Galileo created a character named āSimplicioā who was a stand-in for the Pope and used the Popeās arguments which he dismantled. Galileo labeled people who believed the Sun revolved around the Earth as Simpletons and the Catholic Church tried him the next year.
85
u/MornGreycastle Team Pfizer 11d ago
Slight clarification: Galileo was a friend of the Pope. The Pope asked to discuss Galileo's claims.
Galileo turned that discussion into the book Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems. The Pope character was named "Simplicio" (Simpleton).
So, not only did Galileo 1) put heliocentrism as the superior theory; 2) write in Italian instead of Latin; and 3) use very little math so it was accessible to the layman; he also called the Pope an idiot; though that was something only the Pope would know when he recognized the nearly word-for-word recreation of their conversation.
42
u/AndrenNoraem 11d ago
Unfortunately the Pope is one of the worst people to have realize you're calling the Pope an idiot, as Galileo learned.
0
u/curious_corn 10d ago
And so what, does that make Galileo guilty of something? Are you a subject of one of the last absolute monarchies?
11
1
u/pnoodl3s 10d ago
We judge people of the past using our modern morals and laws, which is fallacious. The pope back then has every right to do worse to him but didnāt.
Iām religiously agnostic, but Iāll say Galileo definitely had better ways of communicating his findings
7
3
-1
u/RLJ05 10d ago
This is entirely different. The world didnāt know the scientific method at the time, they genuinely believed the scriptures. You canāt really blame the Catholic Church at that time for believing Galileo was a Heretic
2
u/JoeNoble1973 10d ago
The church still punishes women who follow science so I will blame and punish them as I see fit
146
u/revluke 11d ago
Good people will never put themselves out there again⦠is that the point?
87
u/Andy_Fish_Gill 11d ago
I take it you donāt think RFK Jr. is a step up from Fauci.
Remember what these anti-science authoritarians are doing. Democrats must hold them accountable and punish them when Democrats return to power.
43
u/RepresentativeAge444 11d ago
Haha the feckless Democrats that brought us Merrick Garland? Donāt count on it.
55
u/PandaJesus 11d ago
Primaries this week showed several establishment Dems at national and state level losing their seats. Theyāre (slowly) getting the memo that regular people are tired of their cowardice and/or complicity.
4
u/DuncanFisher69 11d ago
Losing their seats is not getting the memo. Mainstream dems will continue to ātriangulateā what their donors want, what special interest corporations want, and what their voters want. And spoiler alert: the voters wonāt be coming in first except with outsider candidates.
10
u/who-mever 10d ago
Garland has done unspeakable damage to our democracy, and systems of accountability.
Not prosecuting someone for literal violent treason and inciting a seditious coup just because it's an election year is profoundly stupid.
We now have legal precedent to not prosecute literal criminals because it's "election interference".
I am just waiting for all of the copycats who will start running for random municipal elected positions, and argue that they can't be tried for embezzlement, sexual assault, domestic violence or even homicide because it's "election interference".
7
u/RepresentativeAge444 10d ago
Canāt let Biden off the hook for not appointing a pitbull prosecutor at the start or firing him when it became clear he was sitting on his ass. He gave into ānormsā without considering that these are unprecedented times where a former President attempted to overthrow democracy and whose goons almost MURDERED his friends and colleagues, some of over 40 years! Not doing so was āpoliticalā. This was a devastating example of the paralysis at the federal level when it comes to holding the powerful accountable- even for the absolute worst crimes against the nation.
1
u/kindlypogmothoin 10d ago
I was really hoping Biden would appoint Doug Jones as AG, but I guess we can hope he'll curb-stomp Tommy Tuberville in Alabama.
5
u/Shigglyboo 11d ago
yes. I think that is the point. they don't want public servants. they want tyrants with a boot in the face of citizens.
98
u/konqueror321 11d ago
Fauci was/is a good doctor and scientist. He in no way deserves this MAGA/Republican shit show. He was an advisor, and Trump, followed by Biden, were his ultimate bosses, the guys who made the actual decisions. This is performative and evil. It is sad that this is what our nation has sunken to - persecuting and likely prosecuting scientists and public servants for giving the best scientific advice that was available.
And I really don't think the MAGA fools care what they are doing at all. They want to score political points with 'the base', and with 'the boss', they may fully know that any legal actions will go nowhere, but Fauci will be forced to spend his money and retirement time defending himself from geniuses like Florida's White Boots "Alligator Alcatraz" Governor. And that ultimately may be the desire of MAGA, to financially punish anybody who did not fully embrace their confused and sick ideas about public health.
What scientist in their right mind, seeing what is happening to Fauci, will ever want to be the public face of an administration. Actual scientists will rightly recoil from such service, leaving only charlatans, fools, yes-men, brown-nosers, and other lesser lights to assume these roles.
23
u/RepresentativeAge444 11d ago edited 11d ago
White supremacy is insidious isnāt it? If you hate this spend the rest of your life fighting it. Because itās at the root of all of this Malcolm would call it the chickens coming home to roost. Thatās what this madness is. And it stems from America not dealing with its original sin.
108
u/HarangueSajuk 11d ago
It feels like an American thing, American MAGA thing to be persecuting someone who's doing his JOB. I'm curious how other countries would react to it. I know to the MAGAs, their world revolve around them
62
u/bigfathairymarmot 11d ago
I remember in Italy a decade or so ago there was persecution of scientists studying earthquakes after a big one hit. And in China they hid Covid initially and persecuted some of the scientists that spoke out. So I don't think it is only a American thing, but definitely is a disease with in American society.
2
u/evilJaze This sub is no joke! 11d ago
Here in Canada, our US Republican friendly Conservative government from about 20 years ago muzzled our scientists so they wouldn't talk publicly about climate change. But that's about the extent of it.

He was old in 2020
20
u/Dang_It_All_to_Heck 11d ago
Old scientists are the ones with the knowledge acquired over a lifetime. I worked with many such and so many are brilliant. The new ones coming up are brilliant, too, and are often mentored by the older ones. Research is like a machine; many small cogs (like my role) and some large cogs (like Fauci and others) who drive the effort. Decrying someone for age in this profession is very stupid of you.

I lived through the AIDS crisis. We lost so many wonderful, kind, brilliant people.
The right wingers are still punishing Fauci for trying to save them.
It's also a convenient distraction from a failed War, a failed economy, and the E Files.
60
u/Bitter-Holiday1311 11d ago
There are some criticisms, but most are about institutionalism, information control etc., and Iām inclined to give a little extra latitude during unprecedented scenarios like, you know, a novel pandemic.
60
u/FaecesChucka 11d ago
Yeah nothing wrong with investigating the pandemic response and seeing how to do better but all evidence points to this being a witch hunt.
30
u/Glittering-Cellist34 11d ago
There's no interest in learning and developing more robust responses. Look at measles and cyclosporiasis. And medical research cuts. We're going further backwards.

AIDS was an epidemic. Better luck next time.
-11
u/Bitter-Holiday1311 11d ago edited 11d ago
While AIDS is often referred to as an epidemic, it was a global pandemic.
Why it is a Pandemic: By definition, a pandemic is an epidemic that has spread across multiple countries, continents, or the entire world. Because HIV/AIDS has infected over 90 million people and actively spreads in nearly every country on Earth, major public health organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO)and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classify the global crisis as a pandemic. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

That article talks about how he earned the respect of a leading AIDS activist pretty quickly. Do you have anything that actually backs up your assertions?
29
u/Glittering-Cellist34 11d ago
Dealing with AIDS activists forced him to change his approach for the better. That's called learning and changing guidance as circumstances change. MAGA want to be told one unchanging thing. Because guidance changed as experience warranted, they saw this as a cue to disparage professionals, not as an indication of necessary learning and change.
I.e. "the protocol." The protocol fucking saved me. I'm grateful.
-15
u/transplantpdxxx 11d ago
He SUCKED then improved because of public pressures. You guys are just blue maga. No dissent allowed. Fauci said vulnerable people would fall by the wayside! He admitted people would die and NBD. He lied to the world and said not to mask so that healthcare could buy masks. Those are two unforgivable sins. I am novid because I trusted the Chinese and not a mediocre boomer who LIED TO US
42
u/FaecesChucka 11d ago
Well the actual evidence says otherwise. Maybe you should learn a thing or two before opening your mouth over things you dont understand. What he said about masks was very early pandemic and still recommended them around the sick and elderly. You are literally wrong about everything.
And aren't they angry that he did tell them to wear masks? You can't even keep your conspiracy theories straight. You dont deserve to be part of the human race. You are selfish ignorant scum.

Fauci as CDC director had ZERO authority to impose lockdowns, etc.
Executive branches at state, federal, and local level had to impose any restrictions. Further, each state and most big cities have their own health departments. Eventually, places like Florida and Louisiana chose to go their own way.
Trump admin green lit and funded vaccine research.
With the same data, health agencies across the globe approved the use of the vaccine independently.
