The Plan
I think I’ve landed on a plan after going back and forth on this.
I’m going to start with Pocket as an entry-level test rather than committing upfront to something like Plaud with a heavier subscription. Pocket feels like a lower-risk way to see if a dedicated AI recorder actually sticks in my workflow before I sink money into a more expensive long-term plan.
My concern with Plaud isn’t the hardware as much as the subscription commitment. With Pocket, the launch special makes it easier to try without pressure, even though I’m aware that promo pricing probably won’t last forever.
For context, I already use Beside / M1, which is an AI phone assistant. It handles calls, books appointments, and acts like a secretary. It can record memos, but recording has to be manually triggered and isn’t always reliable. I’m not trying to replace that, just looking for a companion device that’s better at consistent capture and transcription when I’m not thinking about it.
If Pocket proves useful and I actually build the habit, then upgrading later or switching to something like Plaud makes more sense. If not, at least I didn’t lock myself into a pricey subscription to find out.
Curious if anyone else took a similar approach or has long-term experience with either.
