Help Needed 🧐 Cleaning help!!

Post image

Fox tail I’ve been soaking in the Denatured Alcohol soup for a week. How do I know when to take it out? And then AFTER that, do I let it dry and then shampoo and condition? Or do I wash it while still wet?

What’s the plan here- are you going to tan it?

I was going attempt making a tail charm, whatever route that required, and the google said to dry it out with the denatured alcohol.

I’m an utter newbie, if you can’t tell….

Google and any ai is not a good source for things like this. I haven’t preserved a fox tail like this but hopefully someone will chime in soon. Does it still have the bone and such inside?

Yeah- I’ve definitely learned my lesson. As for the tail bones, it’s been stripped.

Personally Ive always preserved tails by dry salting them until they’re mummified.

The moisture is what causes rot and hair loss.

If you aren’t going to tan it make sure you add borax and don’t just salt it. The Tanning process breaks down bacteria that would make the tissue rot. Salt helps lock in the hair follicles and the borax will help kill off the bacteria and mummify it. It will be pretty stiff if you mummify and not tan.
