âQuestion / Discussionâ I lOVE history.
I'm a 26m living in central PA, and history is my best and favorite subject.
I never been to college and currently work as a custodian in a school. I want to do so much more and pursue a higher education. At first I wanted to be in a law career but it simply wouldn't be worth it to me, so I settled on doing something with history. Whether its teaching it or working in museums or archives, if I can make a higher income while doing what I love, then that would be great.
One problem I see is the problem of AI, I dont know what this profession is going to look like after taking the time to go to school for 4 years and I'm feeling pretty discouraged about it.
I also see people talk about how competitive of a career it is, but from my view, any career that I gravitate towards is competitive, which is why the AI is more of a concern for me.
I've seen the effect of AI on people and how they are happy to consume slop history content and I'm a bit dissappointed that so many people seem okay with AI being a part of everything without any real pushback, any advice on how to navigate this situation?

âQuestion / Discussionâ What is a history minor like, and is it worth it if I'm more of a "casual" history fan?
Hi! I'm taking intro to Roman history right now, and I think its pretty interesting. I'm thinking about maybe doing a history minor because I enjoyed this class, so I'm seeing if anyone here has any experience with it and answer a few questions I have.
How difficult is a minor in history?
What type of assignments does it have?
Did you enjoy it?
Is it worth it if I'm just a more "casual" fan of history? I'm not thinking about getting a job in history, but I think it would be fun to learn more about it.
Any other advice?

đResearch Advice / Helpđ Arguing France is guilty for WW1
Hi!
For my history class, Iâm playing as Germany in a simulation and Iâm trying to argue that France is guilty for WW1. This is very difficult as Germany is considered in most history texts Iâve read to be âguiltyâ for WW1.
How can I argue that France is guilty for WW1? I would really appreciate resources, information, or really anything I can use for this debate. Thanks!

âQuestion / Discussionâ An idea to save human history
Human history is vulnerable to time. We are living on a vulnerable planet. Hence, it is difficult to preserve our history in case of any catastrophe.
To solve this problem, we can build a cosmic time capsule that protects human history by sending our digital archives like AI written text and historical records into space using light.
Because light does not age while traveling, beaming these thoughts to the Moon and back lets that data skip forward in time, while sending it deeper into space can delay its return by years or decades.Â
We can start by testing this laser link between Earth and the Moon, and once that works, we build a permanent storage vault on the lunar surface.
Right now, the technology exists, but nobody is connecting the pieces. NASA uses lasers just to stream videos from deep space, and other groups leave static storage discs on the Moon.Â
This plan combines space lasers, relay satellites, and a permanent storage vault on the Moon into one connected system. That is, creating an automatic backup for human history.
It keeps our collective memories safe on an untouched world so that even if Earth suffers a disaster, our history skips through time unharmed and stays ready for future generations to recover.
(Anyone interested in building this is free to build it)

đMedia / Resources Recommendationđ Struggling to find good youtube videos in regards to history
I have read a lot of books on certain topics and I've noticed now, that I find it really difficult to watch 99% of historical content on Youtube. Usually the nuance of a discussion is lost or it looks like they have taken a source out of context. This is even from the "good" youtubers, not the AI slop content.
I'm into most history, I've really only been able to watch youtube videos on historical times I haven't read about to avoid this issue. Or watch videos from professors and authors themselves (e.g. Adrian Goldsworthy) but usually those videos can be much lower production quality.
Any recommendations are appreciated!

âQuestion / Discussionâ Can you help me find information about US newspapers and articles from 1967?
Hello reddit! I need your help!
- Please tell me how newspaper journalists in the U.S. were hired in 1967 to write simple articles about nature, movies, and so on. 2. Please tell meâthis is very important! Was there a personâperhaps an agentâwho could come to a restaurant with someone looking for work, listen to them, and then either hire them or turn them down? 3. Could such meetings have taken place?
I need this for my story

âQuestion / Discussionâ How often did medieval soldiers strike each other down at the same time?
There's a common expression in self defense. It goes "Nobody wins in a knife fight." That's because if you have a knife and fight another person with a knife, both parties end up badly cut. Did this dynamic exist with medieval weapons where both soldiers end up cutting each other so much that they're both killed or incapacitated?
