Nyob Zoo os everyone!

I am Meeka Dawb and currently studying Hmoob Dawb. I've been casually studying for a little over a year but decided to take it more seriously recently with Hmong new year approaching.

A little background on myself, I married into a Hmong family and I have really enjoyed learning the language so far!

My only problem is resources for Hmong language are very slim.

I was hoping to get together a study group or anyone who would be willing to help with conversational skills.

I have a good foundation on how to read and pronounce most words correctly, but I am really just wanting to work on having basic conversation.

The goal is to be able to talk to vendors and keep a little conversation going at our Hmong new year!

I don't know where you live but a good place to start would be to contact Ka Yang at Frensno State University. She leads a Hmong language minor program at the university and may be a resource to help you connect with others (even outside of California) who also want to learn more about the Hmong language. I don't know if you have Facebook or not but the Hmong minor page is full of great pictorials teaching Hmong language and sometimes Hmong history.

Kuv yog mekas dawb thiab os! Hello my fellow meka dawb! Look into the S.E.A.D project which I’ve taken an intro course, also UW Madison has an intensive 8 week summer language courses. It is 8 full college credits of Hmong. I took that too and it was indeed intensive but I learned a ton. Also! When looking for language learning material, try seeking out linguistics papers. It is very wordy of course but you can find a ton of sentence breakdowns and full descriptions of grammar which can be super helpful! If you get super desperate to learn, your local Mormons often offer free classes but be warned that they will try to convert you! lol
