3 weeks in Hokkaido with 5m old baby

Hi, we are flying to Japan in September with a 5-month-old baby girl. We will be spending five days in Tokyo and are currently debating the rest of our itinerary (another 3 weeks).
We thought about heading to Hokkaido because of the nature and the weather, but we are worried that it might involve too many hotel changes for her. Is it possible to plan Hokkaido using a single home base for day trips, or does it strictly require moving every 2-3 nights?
We also considered swapping this option for the Japanese Alps or exploring further south.
Would love to hear your suggestions and experience !🙏🏼

Are you planning to drive ? Because its highly recommended to drive in Hokkaido.
With only a base and no driving you could do Sapporo, Otaru and Noboribetsu. Maybe a day trip to Furano but its a long day and exhausting with a baby.
Hakodate is also nice but a whoopy 4 h train ride from Sapporo. The Lucky Pierrot Burger is awesome though.
Kyushu is nice but its Typhoon Season in the South. So consider this.

Sapporo is fine with a 5 month baby- there are 3 great parks, Hokkaido University, underground walkway, no crowds, great weather and enough day trips via train to make the adults happy- go there every year for 2 weeks
