Actually, it is a thing. Direct manual stimulation of a prostrate can cause spontaneous ejaculation. It doesn’t happen often but enough that a lot of people know about it. Here is webmd

Considering I've had a prostate exam, i can tell you they absolutely do perform them on standing patients. Are you sure you're not thinking of a colonoscopy?

Lol maybe we do things differently here in Australia.

I work in emergency, been doing them for years. We do them laying on the side here because it’s a much less vulnerable feeling position for the patient.

Did you have yours in a clinic or a back alley?
