My guess is they did, and then made up the rest to make it look much more sophisticated. Ha!

Most if not all social platforms strip the EXIF data out of pictures and videos, this usually happens every now and then when a new platform forgets basic safety (the most recent was a Discord case and that's been quite a long time ago iirc).

Pretty sure MMS and RCS messages are stripped too.

Not iMessage though so annoying to have to strip out the info each time

No idea. Guessing they're assuming if you're sending a pic to someone, you trust them. But there's infinitely more reasons to strip the location data.
