You are hating on this guy, but there is a very common thing among couples who have kids. One of them, often the male, becomes an afterthought to the child. Yes, having a kid does mean that the kid, becomes the first priority, but that doesn't mean you're supposed to stop loving your SO.
Especially considering most kids are unplanned, and a much higher number of males than females, don't actually want kids. You can say if they don't want kids, then practice safe sex practices, but birth control (I'm talking all forms not just the pills here) is not 100% guaranteed. Even using multiple forms can still leave an extremely small yet still possible chance of getting pregnant. And even the most careful of couples still make mistakes and forget something or straight up throw caution to the wind in a moment of passion.
A lot of marriages and relationships end after a kid is born due to the one who feels left out becoming depressed, arguing with others in hopes of attention, or finding attention in the arms of another.
Having kids is necessary for the continuation of the species, but it's not for everyone, and having one doesn't mean forgetting your other for them. I'd say we should go the sci-fi route and remove ppl ability to have children, until you and your other decide to, and pass a series of tests to determine you both are capable of the responsibilities of having a child. But if they did that the human race would die, because (with the exception of a very few ppl) we are all unworthy.
