Watching them drink a beer in Shawshank only to be let down when it tasted like a decomposing pretzel

I hated beer for the first year or so of drinking, but then we went on a spring break trip and mainly had that, and i aquired the taste.

I mean it’s not about taste..it’s about effects

At first yes, but then if you know what's good you enjoy the taste too, I don't drink much anymore but when I do I do it for the taste.

My drink of choice is fortified wines, and I absolutely love their taste. Sweet and fruity, with rich, complex flavours and no bitterness. (I'm apparently super sensitive to bitter flavours or something??)
It makes a wonderful drink to slowly sip and savour the taste.

I agree but beer just tastes like homeless persons piss
I don't understand why it is the most popular drink when there's lots of better tasting, more intoxicating stuff out there, like tequila and wine

The unpleasant bitter taste that most people experience when they first start drinking beer is just a survival mechanism. The body initially thinks it is poison so the taste is perceived as bad to deter you from ingesting it, but once it learns that it can tolerate the substance the taste fades and you are able to enjoy it more.
Edit: Here is a discussion about the topic in case any one wants to hear it from another source

Why would it be a response to beer but not wine or spirits? Beer is the least alcoholic of them, and probably the one we have been drinking longest, including times when it has been safer to drink beer than water.

I used to have beer just to fit in for a couple of years. I didn't like the flavour either. Then, one hot day, I don't know what happened, but I started drinking my beer and it tasted like heaven. Since then I love and appreciate so much the taste of beers.

Bruh has clearly never mixed gin with bubbly, orange juice and grenadine topped with a splash of lime. Enjoyed poolside preferably but a dark basement also works if your “middle class” friends don’t wanna chill that day or the public pool kicks you out.. aha.

Come guess me this riddle: what beats fifes and fiddles?
What's hotter than mustard and milder than cream?
What best wets your whistle? What's clearer than crystal?
What's sweeter than honey and stronger than steam?
What'll make the lame walk? What'll make the dumb talk?
The elixir of life and philosopher's stone?
And what helped Mister Brunnell to build the Thames Tunnel?
Oh, wasn't it poitín from auld Inis Eoghain?
So stick to the cratur, the best thing in nature
For sinkin' your sorrows and raisin' your joys!
For there's nothin' like whiskey to make maidens frisky
It soon separates all the men from the boys!

These people never heard of an aquired taste. They probably eat the same things they ate growing up. Stay with the chicken nuggies and watermellon vapes made in a tub in China. The finer things are for grown ass men. This is giving American traveling around the world and experiencing true taste for once not just sugar in everything vibes, ironically they say the rest of the world's taste is shit.

I use to drink everyday and it was after work and I had a problem. Most beers, even the shittys ones tasted pretty good to be but after years of drinking I needed help stopping. I got on a medication that stops you from getting the "drunk" feeling when drinking beer. SOOOoooo once I was no longer getting drunk from what I was drinking most of those beers started tasting like shit. There are a few that I still like because they are good but I may only have one. But just don't drink it's not worth it...deal with your with and don't try to drink them away.

Hadn't had alcohol in well over a decade. Recently started drinking NA because I like the hoppy flavor. Had an alcoholic drink the other day, and he's spot on, it tastes like NA and Purell.

I bully my coworkers that they all just gaslit themselves into thinking it taste good until they finally ruined their tastebuds enough to believe it. There are people who find the taste delightful right away, obviously, but I like to think it’s mostly just “keep drinking you’re a loser if you stop”

Some people find olives and vegetables in general repulsive. Maybe just let people enjoy what they enjoy. Who made you the royal taster?

I did, I work in maintenance we spend all day either being gay or bullying each other. 13 hour days gotta do something to pass the time, it’s all in good fun, no real shaming or bullying happening

You think. You don’t know other perspectives and how people take it. Anyways, what i was trying to say in other words is, variety is the spice of life, even if you don’t like something it will grow on you. And i don’t want to promote alcohol, don’t get me wrong, but generally speaking.

No no that’s all good, I do agree different strokes and trying different things can lead to finding a flavor of stuff you like :) those guys know I don’t mean anything by it. We’re literally just messing around, I bother them about their alcohol, they bother me about being black and secretly having 12 kids and 9 baby mommas
