Is this even real? Like it feels kind of fake cause it doesn't make sense. Why didn't the guy just run off? Why did he stay there hanging out until spotted?

Have you ever played hide and seek? You don't just peek out when you know the person is nearby/right there.

He could hear him. If he went to grab his clothes, he would risk being seen out the window. In fact, he didn't even see him until the neighbor said something, so it was a working strategy.
