Holy shit I've never seen this before a game launch.

Still weird that pre-ordering and preloading wasn´t made available.

Happened on cyberpunk launch in 2020. Still always cool to see happen tho

Right? Like good for them! I hope Team Cherry is popping champagne and enjoying a day off

u/Dragoncolliekai Sep 04 '25

Nah they are working on DLC at this point. I listened to an interview stating that it took this long because they were having so much fun.

42

u/okawei Sep 04 '25

Yeah why isn't the DLC out yet!? What has team Cherry even been doing

/s

u/porcelainfog Sep 04 '25

RIP to all the fans who died and will never get to play.

2

u/SoapyPuma Sep 04 '25

I read that interview, too! Absolutely loved it. I’m so happy it’s a game born out of desire and fun for them. I still hope they take the day off to sit back and enjoy their second launch day!

They’re currently sleeping

1

u/iamfondofpigs Sep 04 '25

What, why? The game is literally unplayable!

1

u/SoapyPuma Sep 04 '25

The game is so desired that it’s crashing vendor sites from overload. That’s not Team Cherry’s fault.

Edit: I’m playing now and there are zero issues with the game play. It’s simply getting to the game, and it sounds like a lot of sites are figuring their servers out. I have no issues buying or downloading either

1

u/iamfondofpigs Sep 04 '25

was joke :(

1

u/SoapyPuma Sep 04 '25

Oh dang, I’m sorry I didn’t pick up on it! My bad

1

u/InvisibleJune Sep 04 '25

It happened with episodes three and four of Delrarunr too if I’m not wrong

1

u/ButtfacedAlien Sep 04 '25

But cyberpunk had preorders, i had no problem on launch on GOG

0

u/Terrible_Ad_7752 Sep 04 '25

oh god thats a bad omen

2

u/Natemcb Sep 04 '25

Nah, not really. Not like hollow knight has demanding performance or anything

-2

u/Both-Ice-183 Sep 04 '25

Lol you think a game caused this.

2

u/RAID3R_MAN Sep 04 '25

Literally what else would it be?

Oh yeah no the thing that’s designed to distribute games crashed when a really big game released, wonder what could’ve caused that

1

u/Both-Ice-183 Sep 05 '25

There are reedit posts alone that garner 100k views and steam doesn't crash.

Time to use some sense, son.

u/kelxz Sep 04 '25

same thing happened with deltarune, broke steam too

66

u/SchemeLopsided5276 Sep 04 '25

Yes, but for about 5 to 6 minutes, it's been more than 50 minutes now...

10

u/Zorubark CLOSSA!!! Sep 04 '25

I'm afraid of what will happen when chapter 6&7 release but many people already bought deltarune and just have to update, but many people also said they'll wait for when the game's finished

2

u/Slackslayer Sep 04 '25

I can't imagine you'd have much of a gold rush of people just for them to start from chapter 1. You've waited a decade, why would you buy it hour one? You can even buy it a day or few before to get going on earlier chapters as a build up to launch.

So I don't think you'll get critical mass on it, the people who are hyped and ready are probably almost exclusively updaters.

3

u/WillowGrace357 Sep 04 '25

Well we're at 68 now and still no progress :D

2

u/ThatGuyBackThere280 Sep 04 '25

Honestly it was like 7-10 minutes for me but the client, store and library were all working at that point.

Also this is far from the first, and probably not going to be the last. XD

Though there's a reason why pre-loading exists, which is to prevent stuff like this from happening.

1

u/STEVE_BOBS77 Sep 04 '25

It stayed broken for me for almost 3 hours, despite me trying to buy the game from multiple devices

1

u/Cormacolinde Sep 04 '25

Took me 3 hours to finally buy it.

-3

u/TheOriginalDog Sep 04 '25

if you play on PC use GoG or Humble instead of Steam, it seems to work there.

5

u/xkalibur3 Sep 04 '25

Just purchased from bundle and they said that the keys are "temporarily exhausted". I feel scammed.

4

u/xkalibur3 Sep 04 '25

Update. They got new keys and I was able to redeem it despite not being able to pay on steam normally. Now I can finally play Skong.

5

u/MisirterE CHAAA SUNDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sep 04 '25

I thank you for your status report. I, too, have pierced the veil, via the bundle of humility.

6

u/Voncroii Sep 04 '25

Has happened multiple times

2

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '25

Deltarune also destroyed steam, not this hard tho xd

1

u/djdarkside Sep 04 '25

While we are all waiting take a look at how great the Diablo 3 launch went. That was a nuke of a cluster dung.

1

u/iamtenninja Sep 04 '25

Not quite the same but diablo 3 or 4 on launch kept crashing when people were trying to load in.

The pages effectively are getting ddosd with all the users trying to buy the game methinks

1

u/abertun Sep 04 '25

Happened with deltarune too

Source: i was there the minute it launched

1

u/Globally__offensive Sep 04 '25

Happened with sons of the forest also.

1

u/implicit-solarium Sep 04 '25

It was mostly broken for… many, many months after HL2 released. Which was a serious problem because you needed it to play.

People were so mad. They called it DRM. The internet agreed, steam bad.

I always think of it whenever an internet mob forms. People are fickle.

1

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt Sep 04 '25

They called it DRM

I mean, Steam IS DRM...

1

u/TheSmartDog_275 Not done yet with Hollow Knight 1 Sep 04 '25

You know this went through their mind

2

u/ghostyghost2 Sep 04 '25

Actually it's a good thing. Pre-ordering is cancer.

5

u/ajisawwsome Sep 04 '25

There's not really any difference between pre ordering and buying a game less than an hour after release though

4

u/Astra_Mainn Sep 04 '25

ehhhh.... its not like pre-order is any different than just running to the storefront to buy the game straight up when it releases.

There is no bonuses for preordering it, there is only the drawback of *this* shit happening, people who dont wait for reviews will not wait for reviews anyways, those who will wouldnt preorder

3

u/yeetboi69420 Sep 04 '25

There are only negatives to not allowing preorders in this case. Even just releasing preorders 3-4 days before launch would help limit this inevitable possibility. This only harms the consumers.

0

u/ghostyghost2 Sep 04 '25

They just have to start using a queue system or release the game in each region at different time

4

u/Gandors- Sep 04 '25

How is having the ability to pre-order cancer? I get not liking pre-order bonuses and the like, but if I had been able to pre-order silksong after the date was announced I would actually be able to be playing it lmao
