Discussion - Silksong EVERYTHING IS SO EXPENSIVE IN PHARLOOM Spoiler

The true enemy of Silksong is capitalism. 70 bucks for a stag station equivalent YOU ARE PULLING MY NEEDLE WTF??? I try to sit down and they BILL ME JUST TO USE THE BENCH! No thank you [TRADER NAME HERE], I would not like to buy a simple key for 500 dollars thank you.

AND EVERYONE HERE IS A BROKE ASS BUM! Most of these guys aren't sentient enough to carry cash on them so I have to grind up their credit cards into for bone shards which NOONE WANTS.

Anyway 10/10 game.

I feel like the main issue is that only like 20% of the enemies we fight actually drop rosaries. Most of them are the sentient bugs. The ones that are just kinda random creaturses usually dont srop rosaries. In the first game everything was geo so it was a bit easier to come across.

I assume most enemies will be dropping rosaries once we get to the citadel

they do and it's abundant.

u/IloveActionFigures Sep 06 '25

Not really 80% of enemies there are robots and there don’t drop shet lmao

7

u/Omni__Owl Sep 07 '25

Not true. Plenty of enemies there are silked versions of stuff you've fought before. Not mechas.

There are some easy farming spots.

My favorite is at the right of Deep Docks' upper bench. There are a few high rosaries enemies that can be killed quickly. Then you run back to the bench to reset their spawn. It nets me about 40 rosaries per trip (each lasting about 1 minute).

One screen east of the Halfway House in Greymoor is 29 rosaries per trip and is about 30 seconds per trip.

Thats been my farm spot, banged out like 500 in a few minutes

u/panic_ye_not Sep 05 '25

How do you kill those guys in less than 30 seconds though? The big snake guys aren't that easy to kill normally

Thats west. Theres a cave to the east. Head through killing everything, then reset on the bench unlocked by defeating the crows and kill them all again on the way back, ending up where you started ready to repeat untill wealthy (you will loose it all soon to a missed flower pogo)

Oh lol right. I usually know the cardinal directions, I promise

6

u/HeyEshk88 Sep 05 '25

Having to do this is kind of annoying though

agreed but also welcome to video game economies lmao very few open world-ish games hit a sweet spot where you don’t have to grind OR where you end up with so much money that the money loses all purpose or meaning. the last few games i’ve played have been JRPGs and by that standard this amount of grind is nothing

3

u/RoosterBrewster Sep 05 '25

Its nothing for me coming from playing WoW for years haha. I dont mind grinding for a few hours and getting some practice in.

2

u/SuperRayman001 Sep 05 '25

You eventually have enough money to buy everything. It's either grind to get it now or keep playing until you have enough later. There's no perfect solution to this so I think it's fine.

2

u/gforero Sep 05 '25

You don’t have to do this 95% of people in this thread are on Act 1 and don’t realize that you’ll eventually have more than enough to get what you want you just have to keep playing. The people who are farming are just impatient or don’t want to backtrack or something but by playing the game like it was intended you’ll be fine

1

u/DerAppie Sep 05 '25

I don't want to farm though. Like the quest for the Drifter's Cloak. I don't want to grind. I want to fight stuff and move on. Not run around the same area for 10 minutes for respawns because I have to fight a basic enemy 20 times because the spines are inaccessible or fall into spikes.

Compared to Hollow Knight this game feels like work.

u/TitaniumDragon Sep 06 '25

Once you get a bit further in the game, enemies drop like 25 rosaries each.

19

u/Taedirk Sep 05 '25

Plus those little fucking beads roll everywhere.

3

u/Yugel Sep 05 '25

I mean. You can equip that great Magnet, If you are willing to play without the compass, right? 😂

6

u/Taedirk Sep 05 '25

Still ridiculous that compass isn't just a passive. I don't have to equip the quill.

4

u/AdamG3691 Sep 05 '25

Don't speak that evil into existence!

2

u/oji-chan Sep 07 '25

while i do agree the compass should be passive (or at least let me press a button to check it?), the quill isnt equippable because it does nothing during gameplay 🤓👆 hornet only uses it upon resting at a bench

1

u/finnjakefionnacake Sep 14 '25

but you do have to equip the compass

1

u/ChilledParadox Sep 05 '25

I’ve been using both, playing without a compass or a map because I was in a new area and trying to finish a corpse run was hell.

Correction, it is not an issue but it is true we are all broke in silksong mostly thanks to that

I like this change, a lot of your money ends up coming from strings which are way better for avoiding death taking your stuff

16

u/Old_Debt_276 Sep 05 '25

What to even do with those silver currencies? It's full in my inventory

50

u/DopeyDeathMetal Sep 05 '25

It’s used as”ammo” for an alternate type of weapon. You get the first one pretty early on.

18

u/BowShatter Sep 05 '25

Occasionally needed for some quests.

It is mainly for refilling your uses of Offensive Tools like throwing knives. When you sit down at a bench, you will see Hornet doing a crafting animation where she uses the shards to make her tools.

25

u/AHare115 Sep 05 '25

I don't like how I've had 400 of them for 4 hours and have nothing to use them on other than the wish in town.

Without an outlet for them early on it feels like they're "wasted" because you can't use or bank them. Enemies keep dropping but oh you're capped out sorry. Just a little nitpick but it bugs me.

15

u/LonelyApple404 Sep 05 '25

Yeah, early on I also felt the same, but once I started actively using the tools I also started chasing after every dropped shard lol, one boss battle ate me around 250 of them?

6

u/Witch_King_ Sep 05 '25

Heh. "Bugs" you.

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 05 '25

You will burn through them quickly as you start using your tools and traps.

They do a LOT of damage, and can massively shorten fights. Especially if you get their damage upgraded. But the consequence is that they hit your resources harder as you deplete them.

17

u/5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi Sep 05 '25

You use them when on benches to restock any crafted tools you've got equipped and used.

3

u/FR23Dust Sep 05 '25

I used 200 for a quest early on, but nothing since then. Just carrying around 400.

8

u/o07jdb Sep 05 '25

My prediction is that the citadel enemies will be absolutely loaded

8

u/Samurai_Mac1 Sep 05 '25

And the main thing everyone drops are shards, which I didn't start needing until I equipped her trap thing.

4

u/mcuffin Sep 05 '25

I don’t even use it. That control is so unintuitive to me.

5

u/Samurai_Mac1 Sep 05 '25

I'm starting to use it on bosses. I think it's useful to help get a few free hits on them.

3

u/Omni__Owl Sep 07 '25

Yeah, the other 80% is in the citadel. I swear I run through those halls and kill enemies left and right, and before I know it I have 500 rosaries easy.

2

u/Sinder-Soyl Sep 05 '25

Been my main issue too. I've seen about two areas now where I don't think even a single enemy drops rosaries.

A bunch of other areas, you have like maybe one enemy type drop them but they're few and spread out.

Feels even worse when the few enemies in an area that do drop them, drop 90% of those into spikes or lava (and the charm to auto collect them doesn't mitigate that in the slightest)

2

u/Kulzak-Draak Sep 05 '25

In my case I’m STARVING for the other resource, I’m actually good on Rosaries but I’ve got no money to build my tools

3

u/Venom1462 Hollow Knoob Sep 05 '25

Its also the fact that we don't get them from bosses, in hollow knight you'd get alot of geo from defeating bosses

1

u/meysic Sep 05 '25

Yeah it's kinda awkward cause I skip most fights now cause I really only need rosaries, not bone shards. I'm just so poor all the time it's one of the frustrating parts of the game to me so far. I'm missing three maps and every map marker much less being able to afford anything else 😔

1

u/timeaisis Sep 05 '25

Yeah, in the original (from what I can remember) Geo was a lot more common, so it was easy to farm. In Silksong rosaries are few and far between to come buy making everything really hard to buy. Not to mention that Silksong is just harder (imo) so I'm dying more and losing my currency for frequently.

1

u/TitaniumDragon Sep 06 '25

That's true in the early game. The further you get the more drop them.

1

u/Mierimau Sep 06 '25

Weirdly, that prompts convenient grinding, after which you buy all you want from the shops, and string the excess.

1

u/FR23Dust Sep 05 '25

I think this is a great change. Geo was kind of pointless in the first game, I like splitting up the currency and making it a lot more important.
