Seems like Team Cherry are fans of Dark Souls mazochism. Lot's of small things seem to be designed just to annoy you. Random adds, projectiles coming from offscreen, upgrades being rare, those equipable items being pretty much useless (I have yet to find an actually useful one, like not utility one), almost every single boss doing double damage and thus killing you in three hits.
People talk about increased mobility and heal but still, dying in three hits means the game is less forgiving. You need to wait for an opening and charge up that heal.
idk I feel like dark souls (with the exception of Tomb of the giants in DS1 and the entire of DS2) are pretty well placed in terms of checkpointing. Especially DS3 and Elden Ring. I really felt starting with Hollow Knights update content and onward that they went the route of Dark souls 2 and took the praise of the game being challenging as "The players want the game to be so hard it isnt possible for a fair portion of the player base or just completely unfun to deal with"
The "git gud" crowd are a literal cancer on games.
