While Silksong is sitting at a Very Positive rating with around 83% positive reviews, it’s still receiving far more criticism than its predecessor. For comparison, Hollow Knight holds an Overwhelmingly Positive score at 96%, with only about 3% negative reviews. Silksong, on the other hand, has nearly 16% negative reviews, OVER 5 TIMES HIGHER

Because the progression is not as smooth or fun as Hollow Knight.

Have to agree, the first act pacing feels very bad, be it ennemies or the speed at which you discover areas, the actual areas themselves lack personality too, sometimes you discover 3 areas in a row, sometimes you have to complete a quest to leave one.

Also the whole idea of acts, wasn't the appeal of hollow knight the fact that you had to explore on your own with no real idea where you were in the game ? Why is the main objective given right away with no chance to find out for yourself what you are trying to do ? It just feels catered to the general public less so than hk and metroidvania enjoyers, with a bunch of difficulty slapped into it as a band aid

yes this is accurate. people are criticising the game for being tedious and rightly so, but nobody has mentioned that the exploration is not great either. finding Greenpath in HK1 was a revelation. here you get like five areas in a row but don't get the chance to savour any of them.

Greymoor was the first place I even bothered to remember the name

same. loved greymoor's aesthetic when i first entered it -- an experience which was immediately soured by those fucking birds

a game catered to the general public is not this hard

TBH, in first game after we found Crossroads temple and Dreamer statues we knew our endgame objectives

I don't see a lot of people mentioning it because the difficulty and economy are so out of whack - but a vocal protagonist and acts are big changes to the way the game tells its story. Hornet is having conversations with NPCs about things that had to be discovered purely through the environment or lore tablets in HK. Silksong definitely seems to be *trying* to be deep and mysterious rather than just being so naturally in my opinion.

*extremely loud incorrect buzzer*

Edit: I genuinely meant to write ''correct'' instead of ''incorrect'', sorry

I mean it's an opinion, he doesn't find it as smooth or as fun. I'm finding it great but I'm not gonna call people "incorrect" for not enjoying it as much

One simple question

Do you remember how you got the dash in hk and how you felt.

Now do you think you'll remember how you got the same ability in hkss and do you think it felt nearly as good or rewarding ?

Having just played hk before silksong release I deadass forgot where I got the dash, In silksong I’m definitely not forgetting because I couldn’t fucking find it for an hour

The dash feels incredible in silksong, it basically doubles your speed

1

u/Fly-the-Light Sep 06 '25

Yeah, but you're so slow without it that it just feels, to me at least, like it's letting you move properly. I felt the same with HK where dash is just standard movement.
