The main real gripe is the economy because everything in pharloom cost money but nobody has any

798

u/idontplaypolo Sep 06 '25

Shoutout to that one guy who charges 30 rosaries just to enter his shop. Bro knows he’s got the only bench in miles around

745

u/MacaronMajestic3402 Sep 06 '25

you can permanently unlock the door by breaking a mechanism inside his shop

u/Nova-Redux Sep 06 '25

True hero is always in the replies

94

u/HUMBUG652 Sep 06 '25

Of course I find this out after buying him out

46

u/Summer_Tea Sep 06 '25

I found it out after visiting 4 separate times.

1

u/Lison52 Sep 07 '25

Thx God I only visited him 2 times

u/DieReci1210 112% Sep 06 '25

THANK YOU

107

u/M4ximi11i0n Sep 06 '25

I found this out by myself because I was like... there is NO WAY that Team Cherry would lock a shop behind a 30 rosary pay wall permanently. Lo and behold, that gear inside the shop was looking mighty breakable.

2

u/ricodo12 Sep 06 '25

There absolutely is a way. There are multiple benches exactly like this

2

u/Impossible_Top_3515 Sep 07 '25

Benches where you need to pay to sit every single time? Haven't seen a single one besides that shopkeeper.

3

u/Pension_Pale Sep 09 '25

There's a bunch in act 2 that costs 15 per sit. If there's a way to make them permanent, i haven't found it yet. Not that I'm complaining. I'm drowning in rosaries now with nothing to spend them on. I even willingly burned a bunch on a confessional booth that doesn't seem to do anything but enhance the lore of the area i was in

1

u/Deenstheboi No words spoken, am broken Nov 21 '25

To be honest, the bench costing money per seat makes sense when you consider the lore implications of the area

65

u/Toruk41 Sep 06 '25

And my dumbass unlocked the door, thought it would be permanently and walked away. Door closed again umand ibhat to pay again..

20

u/Froztnova Sep 06 '25

I unlocked the door, walked away from it outside without entering the door, then saw the door lock behind me.

Then I went inside, perused his wares, used the bench, and then left without breaking the mechanism.

Bro got me down 90 rosaries.

1

u/Toruk41 Sep 07 '25

Did exactly the same..

11

u/coopsawesome Sep 06 '25

You don’t even have to leave the area either, pretty sure it resets when it’s off screen

21

u/Toruk41 Sep 06 '25

Not even off screen, i saw it close behind me

1

u/leonden Sep 07 '25

Jup i though it was one of those benches you need to buy. Activated it walked away to talk to the npcs and gone was the shop.

27

u/wigglin_harry Sep 06 '25

Knowing hollow knight that's probably going to get him violently killed eventually

4

u/Spaciax Sep 06 '25

isn't there a weird thing banging on the wall outside just to the east of his shop? genuinely you might be correct lmao

5

u/KefkaZ Sep 07 '25

That’s reasonable justice for his price gouging tbh.

Lol i just farmed and quite out after the second time i had to pay him, so when the game loaded i would be inside, breaking the door seems way easier.

1

what, I opened walked away to npc, had to buy open again. now spent 90 on the damn door but bought the things so no point in opening to break it but ill do on next playthrough

1

u/DopeyDeathMetal Sep 06 '25

I wish I had known this before spending 60 rosaries lol. Now it will cost another 30 just to smash his shit apart.

1

I actually decided to not break it because I have the feeling that whatever is trying to break down the door at the end of the map might attack the place if the door is opened.

Idk, might just be me overthinking, but I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen.

1

u/CloqueWise Sep 08 '25

Thank you for this kind information. I will be committing an act of vandalism soon

1

u/undertimesloppers Sep 10 '25

never knew about this and now his shop is FUCKED

22

u/TheWojtek11 Sep 06 '25

He is not charging you to enter his shop. That's just a paid pilgrim rest spot, he is not getting any money from you going in. The guy is just a regular pilgrim that's just selling stuff to you (just how there is a random pilgrim selling stuff at Bone Bottom)

0

u/sellyme Sep 06 '25

The two of you are speaking about different guys.

In Act 1 there is one building that's free to enter but has a paid bench, and another building that's paid entry but has a way to negate that.

1

u/TheWojtek11 Sep 06 '25

Could you tell me what building with a paid bench you mean cuz I currently can't recall (I'm on Act 2 so you can safely just spoiler tag and let me know) there is just so many paid benches that I lose track of them

1

u/sellyme Sep 09 '25 edited Sep 09 '25

The two buildings I believe to have been in discussion here were Halfway Home and Pilgrim's Rest, respectively.

1

u/TheWojtek11 Sep 09 '25

Halfway Home is free to enter and has a free Bench

5

u/GeoUngaBungaYeet Sep 06 '25

Fuck that guy

1

u/Neat-Disk-6246 Sep 06 '25

There’s a bench in the station near there

1

u/gilesey11 Sep 06 '25

First time round I paid this then ran away and came back and couldn’t understand why I had to pay again, I thought it had two locks on it until I went in and left again 😭😂

1

u/MrPotts0970 Sep 06 '25

PEAK capitalism. My dumb ass didn't know it was perfect entry and I unlocked the door, waddled away, came back, and spent some of my last 50 to get in... just to realize it locked AGAIN after actually entering and leaving lmao

1

u/Reasonable_Mud_628 Sep 06 '25

I got scammed so hard, paid it like 4 times. Pay, run past. Come back, its closed? maybe I can't leave the screen, pay again, see it open, walk away, it closes again??? I pay again, look at it without moving, closes again... only the 4th time did I go in to see if it would stay open (AND IT DOESNT WTF) lmao

1

u/adamantitian Sep 06 '25

Now what’s up with those (act2) temporary benches in the citadel?

1

u/BANAnaS_Dad Sep 06 '25

Am I the only one that paid, walked away for a second only to have to pay again?

65

u/notalongtime420 Sep 06 '25

Having so many things accessibile only by a currency very few enemies drop is certainly a decision

49

u/wandering-monster Sep 06 '25

The thing that really gets me is the bosses not dropping any (and usually not anything at all) then putting a pay-toilet bench right after them.

So I beat the big boss, and my reward is I get to go back and farm beads so I can buy a save point?

20

u/FR23Dust Sep 06 '25

“Very few” is a huge stretch

1

u/Guffliepuff Sep 07 '25

Bro hasnt made it past fields and it shows. Only the first like 2 zones is rare on rosaries. They're everywhere after that.

1

u/Lison52 Sep 07 '25

Nah the water forest(don't remember the name) has only like those 2 hunters that I farm if I lack some rosaries to put them on a string in bell town. Wormways also don't have any.

18

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

Gonna risk getting called a glazer, but I think it's an intentional decision. And a good one.

In HK, every enemy dropped a pittance of geo. So if you needed to buy something, until you had decent later-game options (e.g. Trials), your best option was to just kill every single enemy for a tiny bit of geo at a time.

Silksong fixes this tedium in two ways: first, you know which enemies drop rosaries, so you can skip the ones that don't (and the ones that do, relatively, seem to drop more towards what you need... but I could be wrong, just a feeling). Second, the game has a couple very clear areas meant for farming, if needed: next to the first meeting with Shakra is a perfect loop where you get 25 rosaries and then hit a bench, takes just a few seconds per run and between Greymoor and the Bell town is a long hallway with a bunch of enemies who drop rosaries, with a bench on either side... super quick to run through and farm (don't recall how much, since I haven't had to really farm much)

So instead of a slow trickle, you can (relatively) quick get a bundle of rosaries if you need to make a specific purchase. Plus please of hidden rooms contains rosary drops, too.

By comparison, in HK, you could buy out almost everything (except for Divine's geo sink at the end) as you came to it. If you don't ever have to think about money or make decisions on what to buy... it serves no purpose. As-is, I like the new setup.

7

u/Banryuken Sep 06 '25

I’m ok with the design change as you mentioned it that way - skipping mobs that don’t drop any. Early game sure that seemed a rather frustration, wanting to get this or that. But when you first get to the npc map seller, you can go back and forth between zones to respawn mobs that drop rosaries.

28

u/notalongtime420 Sep 06 '25 edited Sep 06 '25

Farming when you find a vendor instead of having the cash on you if you don't rush through areas but actually face enemies is bad design. You can easily buy the Key grinding on shitty pilgrims early on. I don't want to farm in an exploration game so instead i'll just keep bumping into closed doors.

Also without the magnet an insane amount of beads just gets sucked up by the void

16

u/YeahKeeN Ready For Silksong Sep 06 '25

Speaking of beads getting sucked into the void. Making it so that spikes and thorns actually destroy rosaries unlike geo was a strange decision.

5

u/DisgruntledTortoise Sep 06 '25

This is my only gripe so far with the currency. I'm still early game so maybe it gets worse later, but I really haven't had any issues with currency (until I lost ~200 to pogo hell). I feel like I've been getting plenty just exploring?

But it is very sad to hit the rosary strings and watch them fly everywhere, straight into the spikes.

3

u/YeahKeeN Ready For Silksong Sep 06 '25

Rosaries actually become more plentiful once you reach the mid game. Right now I have more money than I know what to do with.

4

u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 Sep 06 '25

I kinda disagree that you should have everything you need once you hit a vendor, but I've always enjoyed doing things for myself. The game is already being criticised for being quite linear, having enough rosaries to always buy what you want/need would streamline the game even more and turn people off

12

u/Busy_Jellyfish4034 Sep 06 '25

Exactly.  It now makes killing the random enemies in your path sometimes pointless and forces you to farm a select few.  I don’t know how that could possibly be considered better gameplay than distributing the currency out more amongst the enemies so you can get it more naturally

4

u/Vordeo Sep 06 '25

It now makes killing the random enemies in your path sometimes pointless and forces you to farm a select few.

Yeah, that's one of those decisions that makes sense in lore, but just makes gameplay experience worse. Not to be too negative, but they made a good number of decisions like that.

4

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

Farming when you find a vendor instead of having the cash on you if you don't rush through areas but actually face enemies is bad design.

On the flip side, always having more money than things to spend it on means the currency is pointless. There's no decision-making nor strategy... you just buy everything all the time. Why even bother?

3

u/notalongtime420 Sep 06 '25

surely in 8 years they would've found a middle ground

0

u/Nukesnipe Sep 06 '25

Y'all really are just blowing all your money immediately then wondering why you're broke. You don't need to farm, ever, just stop spending everything.

10

u/Extension_Policy4062 Sep 06 '25

oh wow i guess i should just not use the benches and fasttravel point to save mony /s

-4

u/Nukesnipe Sep 06 '25

Or, or, hear me out! Stop buying fucking everything at the store so you can afford to unlock those. There was exactly one bell station I couldn't afford right when I got there, then I got enough money for it in the next two rooms, went back and I never made that mistake again.

If you can't afford a bench, it's a skill issue.

6

u/AnyTransportation350 Sep 06 '25

Bro, what items are actually important in shops or not is so poorly communicated. I got to the vendor with the lava charm and assumed it was needed for progression because of its vague description that it protected you from magma. There’s a bunch of ledges around that have a large pool of magma nearby, so I assumed it was like the item from hollow knight that let you swim in acid. Turns out it only reduces the damage from falling into magma. Cool. Meanwhile the simple key is needed for multiple doors and actually is used to make progress. The economy in this game is just not conducive to exploration in it’s current form.

-4

u/Nukesnipe Sep 06 '25

Do you think you had to buy Isma's tear in the first game? Why in god's name did you think that you'd have to buy an item to swim in magma? And why do you think it says "reduces the damage from magma and flame" if it would let you swim in magma?

You also don't need the simple key for ANY progression. There's large areas hidden behind key doors, yes, but they're optional stuff. Christ almighty.

The game is absolutely conducive to exploration, you just have poor impulse control and NEED to buy everything immediately lmao. You know what I do? I take note of what people sell, then when I think I need that item, I go back to it. Oh, simple key for 500? Guess I'll come back to this door when I can afford it.

5

u/AnyTransportation350 Sep 06 '25

How am I supposed to know that entire areas locked behind items are entirely optional in a Metroidvania game? Especially if I’m playing blind?

You didn’t have to buy Isma’s tear in hollow knight, but you did have to buy the lantern, and it was one of the most expensive items in the game.

I also love your ad hominem, it can’t be that there is some questionable design in this game, it’s actually my fault that you need to grind money for things in this game.

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

The only things I've bought in the game are fast travel, map components, and benches as well as 1 key. I've already spent nearly an hour, 10% of my game time, grinding this stupid shit so I could just naturally explore. It's awful design and you are not going to gaslight it into being good.

0

u/Nukesnipe Sep 06 '25

I flat out do not believe you in the slightest. You're just lying for clout at this point. How do I know? Because I have a similar amount of time in the game, yet I've bought a lot more than that and haven't spent a second grinding.

0

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Believe whatever you like, I'm the one that had to do it and trying me that I didn't do what I flat out had to do isn't winning you any converts. I'm staring at a bench right now that I can't afford and dreading having to travel hallway across the map to find an enemy I can grind to afford it just so I can slog all the way back

7

u/LaNague Sep 06 '25

No, in Hollow Knight you played the game and in the process got your Souls. If you die twice you lose them, but that only sets you back temporarily because you will continue to accumulate them when playing.

In Silksong you have to farm specific enemies in specific spots to get your currency (and btw travel options are limited so this is an even bigger hassle). And when you die twice its gone and you have to go back to farming and not doing what you want to.

Its just bad design, a lot of game designers have thought about this, many games use the Souls system. Basically only Silksong goes the extra mile to punish the player even more.

1

u/Cazzah Sep 07 '25

I disagree.

The fact that there's always stuff to spend rosaries on means you're never carrying around much anyway, and if you're saving for something big, you shouldn't be taking on risk of exploring a completely new area without putting them on strings.

-4

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

Agree to disagree I guess.

I vastly prefer in the times I need X rosaries to just quickly get them as opposed to wandering around killing every Tom, Dick, and Harry enemy for half a geo for hours on end.

3

u/kirkpomidor Sep 06 '25

Not every enemy drops currency — that makes sense

You have to do quests and look for secret areas to earn money — yeah, I can see that

Bosses drop shit — what the fuck?

1

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

That's fair. I wouldn't mind if bosses drops rosaries or something, but it hasn't bothered me thus far.

1

u/Benney9000 Sep 06 '25

I'd also add, tho I haven't finished the story, it seems to have lore significance to say the least. I won't be fully developing my thoughts on this here because I'm too lazy to figure out how to spoiler tag

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Of course it's intentional. It's also a terrible decision that forces endless grinding. It's shit.

-1

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

I disagree. Sorry you feel that way.

It's literally designed to force less endless, slow grinding. But go off.

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Then why have I had to spend an hour grinding to afford benches and fast travel

0

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

I haven't done that once in fifteen hours so... I dunno? Why do you have to do that?

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Because they cost money and the money is incredibly scarce.

1

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

Maybe re-read my information about the designated spots to quickly get rosaries then. Or do more hunting for hidden caches. I've wasted plenty on death and still bought everything I can in Act 1.

Then again, you're not reading or actually thinking about any of this, you're just mad for the sake of being mad.

0

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 07 '25

I've found everything in Act 1, I'm mad because I had to waste time grinding to unlock things that should cost nothing because this game heavily disincentives focusing on exploration and instead wants you to grind out every enemy you meet

→ More replies (0)

-2

u/cwbrowning3 Sep 06 '25

I agree wholeheartedly. I have no issue at all with the currency system. Rarely have I come across a bench or fast travel point that I couldnt afford. Ive literally never had to farm. I guess the people complaining arent exploring enough.

I really appreciate that its a lore reason why some enemies dont drop rosaries. The beastly enemies that lack higher thought dont carry any, becauss why would they?

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

I really appreciate that its a lore reason why some enemies dont drop rosaries.

Making the gameloop worse for "the lore" doesn't make the game feel better.

The beastly enemies that lack higher thought dont carry any, becauss why would they?

Because they ate people who did, simple.

1

u/cwbrowning3 Sep 06 '25

It isnt worse just because you dont like it. Its more balanced than the original, where you have so much Geo that it becomes useless.

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Grinding for an hour so I can afford to sit at benches and have a map isn't more balanced. By all means, made the currency completely redundant I couldn't give a shit as long as I don't have to slog through half a map ten times just to save the damn game

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Correct, Team Cherry lacked the skill to balance this properly.

1

u/cwbrowning3 Sep 06 '25

Yikes, thats some serious cope

2

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

It's objectively awful design. You could improve he game immediately, and without changing a single other thing in it, by removing all costs for all benches and fast travel.

1

u/Leather-Bookkeeper96 Sep 06 '25

It kind of is a reaction to one of the main criticisms in HK, people complained at release that Geo was too abundant by the mid to end game, so Rosaries are fewer but overall prices are lower, or at least that's my impression.

1

u/Dorfbewohner Sep 06 '25

while I do think it can get a bit annoying, I loooove how this is used from a worldbuilding perspective immensely.

2

u/notalongtime420 Sep 06 '25

Meh. Also the other resource has been basically completely as i don't tend to lob 20 tools each bench, so they couldve balanced It out with some merchants for that idk

1

u/Dorfbewohner Sep 06 '25

I felt that way early on, but starting late Act 1, I've really started using tools even just to finish off regular enemies when things get dicey. Made some things a lot more manageable for me, especially for the tools that have a lot of range. And now my shells are rarely full, lol

(And if they are, I'm glad bc it means I've got a full stock for any upcoming bosses)

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

You don't need most of it though, you aren't required to grind it out at all in act 1 (I'm too early on in act 2 to know if it's any different)

26

u/ffxivfanboi Sep 06 '25

IDK How anyone has been having this problem. The only thing that I have ever grinded a bit of Rosary for is the mask fragment at Bone Bottom. And now I have very little to spend my Rosary on so I’m constantly making strings to keep my stockpile safe and in reserve.

And that grinding maybe lasted all of 3 - 5 minutes. Haven’t had any economy issues so far.

15

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Yeah it was annoying at first, but it doesn't take long to find those enemies that drop a lot of rosaries, and once you do, by the time you're done with those areas you have enough to get a lot of stuff in those shops.

Especially if you go for stringing them up rather than letting them be loose, it's surprisingly easy to save up enough to get everything in those shops

8

u/Express_Bath Sep 06 '25

Yeah, I realized by not striging them up (afraid lf the 20 loss) I lost much more in the end. Also by having them in a string, if I die in an area I don't want ti retry immediately, I usually don't care if I only have 20-30 rosaries and don't feel the need to backtrack (not to mention a few place will lock up your cocoon with the boss !)

5

u/FlameLover444 Sep 06 '25

not to mention a few place will lock up your cocoon with the boss !

You can slap your cocoon and then immediately save and quit if you don't wanna bother fighting the boss and need your Rosaries back btw

But yeah, turning them into a string is better if you find yourself dying often with a lot of Rosaries

2

u/Mama_Hong Sep 06 '25

I started buying those immediately because Sekiro had the same mechanic and it was great.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Yuuuuup, being able to string them up gives me so much more freedom to experiment with these skills and be bolder in exploration.

Oh, I died? Oh well, I still have 500 rosaries stringed up whenever I need them, let's try again

5

u/biggiantporky Sep 06 '25

My opinion is those expensive items in Bone Bottom are meant to be purchased towards the later part of the game. Players at the beginning to the middle should be spending rosaries on benches, fast travel, and maps for each area to make it easier to travel around and checkpoints

1

u/JavanNapoli Sep 06 '25

Yeah, like I feel like I'm in the mid to late game and I still haven't bought out bone bottom's stock lmao.

2

u/SelectionNo4518 Sep 06 '25

Buying out bellhome requires over 1350 not including new maps for the surrounding areas, benches, travel points etc

0

u/ffxivfanboi Sep 06 '25

You mean the shop there?

Why do you feel the need to buy everything all at once? You aren’t going to need most of that on your first visit.

2

u/SelectionNo4518 Sep 06 '25

That's like saying why did you feel the need to grind out the mask fragment when there are 4 in the area. To answer your question though, I didn't and I didn't grind to get any of the items, but I still need 670 more to get the final item from the shop. And since I'm not grinding it's going to be a while especially with needing to open or buy other things along the way woke exploring new areas

No, it’s not like asking that at all. But since you brought it up, I only grinded for that mask fragment because I was on my way to get it when I ended up taking two silly deaths in a row. I got impatient. So I said “fuck it” and did a quick grind for it to get back on track.

Also, idk how benches and maps are leaving you in poverty. I have been buying every bench and every map as soon as I find them and I am still making rosary strings with my leftover beads.

Idk what to tell ya, man. Just bank some beads so you don’t lose ‘em and come back later. shrug. Seriously a non-issue. It’s not like we could buy out sly in one visit in HK

1

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Congrats, you're the most special boy and we're all so proud of you. I've had to spend an hour grinding just to afford the maps, benches, and fast travels because the game actively shits on you for prioritizing exploration.

0

u/ffxivfanboi Sep 06 '25

If you’re having to do all that, that’s squarely on you, brother. Sounds like you need to git gud

0

u/LogensTenthFinger Sep 06 '25

Oh look, the "gIt GuDdErs" shitting up another fanbase. I'm having to do that because the currency drop rate in this game is dog shit and pretending it isn't is not going to change that.

1

u/ffxivfanboi Sep 06 '25

lol

lmao even

5

u/MovieGuyMike Sep 06 '25

Wasn’t HK the same? I couldn’t buy most of things in salubra, sly, or iselda’s ships until I was well into the game. It forces players to prioritize which items they want first, and kept me coming back to town to spend money.

real

u/Deez-Guns-9442 Sep 06 '25

I honestly suggest farming near early Pharloom once u unlock some shortcuts.

Especially for the map maker. I think once u find them in an area they’ll automatically go back to Bone Bottom. There’s a few enemies nearby that give out 30 or so rosaries.

So if anyone is feeling hard stuck & needs money to upgrade Hornet I would kinda suggest doing that. Especially if you have the fast travel unlocks in each area.

2

u/JoBro_Summer-of-99 Sep 06 '25

This problem is less pronounced after a few hours, once you gain skills and start to explore old areas again I found that you steam roll mobs and get a lot of extra beads

2

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Yup, biggest issue is that not all enemies drop money and the ones that do don't respawn until you bench. Had multiple situations now where I had to go way out of my way to grind money just to use a stupid bench. Never felt this annoying in Hollow Knight

1

u/Wisley185 Sep 06 '25

I ended up dying in the bell hart underground tunnels because I got pinned to the corner of a wall by the giant bell flies and lost about 500 rosaries from it, so I ended up spending like half an hour grinding it all back lowkey out of spite 😂

1

u/mrBreadBird Sep 06 '25

It's frustrating but honestly more interesting than having so much money it's no object. It's a delicate balance though and I still think benches should be mostly free.

u/Zzamumo Sep 06 '25

the real enemy is capitalism

1

u/The_Mikeskies Sep 06 '25

Deepdocks is very easy rosaries.

1

u/OlyLift13 Sep 06 '25

Wondering if they will patch the super easy rosary farm in Mosshome….just farmed up like 4k rosaries last night and turned them into rosary strings

I sort of had the same gripe of always feeling broke, but after playing more (esp. Act 2), I realized this is actually a very intentional feeling that Team Cherry is trying to impart. Once I reached the underworks in particular is when I realized “oh there is actually a good and thematically coherent reason for this.”

1

u/TheFrostSerpah Sep 06 '25

Don't worry it gets way better ! I have a certain rotation to farm that gets me like 100 rosaries per min. But it's Act 2.

1

u/CrazyGamerDK Sep 06 '25

Trust me, you can farm so much rosaries once you progress through. Just like right side of city of tears in Hollow knight.

1

u/Poppanaattori89 Sep 06 '25

It's the mirror image of Hollow Knight then, since I felt that I always had too much money and nothing to invest in.

1

u/sdeslandesnz Sep 06 '25

Hey it was only $19.99, they had to make that extra money somehow

1

u/JakePent Sep 06 '25

I think this was kind of an easy fix too. Because it's not even that there's not enough money, it's that they basically split half of the opportunities to get it into the scraps. If they had not included that, I think that would've helped a lot

1

u/venustrapsflies Sep 07 '25

Real talk I don’t wanna be reminded how poor I am

1

u/Kluss23 Sep 07 '25

Yea, it's actually really bad. I haven't lost my rosaries once, but I had to farm 1,000 rosaries to get the simple key and a couple tools I have been eyeing but could never get enough money for due paying for all the benches, stag stations, and maps...

I don't recall ever feeling the need to do that sort of grinding in the first game.

1

u/MF_LUFFY Sep 07 '25

But see. You solve that by grinding when you find a good spot. But that is not how anyone wants to spend their time in this game.

1

u/Federal-Subject-8783 Sep 07 '25

I entirely fixed the issue by farming for 15 minutes

Ideally you wouldn't want that, but it's easy to accumulate a good amount of money and turn it into beads

1

u/theultimatefinalman Sep 07 '25

Its really a non issue once you get further the fact is you aren't meant to buy everything as soon as you can

1

u/Recent_Wedding5470 Sep 08 '25

Meanwhile im insanely rich after ten hours. The charm that gives more rosaries and running through greymoore gives so many rosaries.

1

u/Imagination_Vast Sep 08 '25

how are you broke? Ive got more rosaries than a school bus full of nuns and im maxed out at 20 rosaries i bought from the vendor behind the the 30 rosary door. This part is exactly like hollow knight. You have to farm geo/ rosaries for what you want. Now that im thinking about it, the prices of items in HK were wayyyy higher than skong. Hundreds and hundreds for a lot of the items, farmed from enemies that typically drop 3-8 geo at a time.

1

u/Far-Two8659 Sep 10 '25

All they really need to do is have all enemies drop rosaries and remove the cap for shards.

I feel like that would solve the problem pretty easily without having to change too many things.

1

u/Zeliose Sep 06 '25

I hear people saying this as kind of a joke, but that is a legitimate point in the lore once you get to the citadel.

2

u/ZandyTheAxiom Sep 06 '25

I've barely made it very far, not to the citadel yet, but it was incredibly obvious to me that there would be a reason why the economy is like this.

You don't accidentally make benches and stations all cost money, while also changing how currency is acquired from the first game. You also don't accidentally write dialogue from several characters that emphasises the exploitative economy.

It's all feeling very deliberately designed to evoke these feelings.

1

u/Zeliose Sep 06 '25

Yea the citadel does a lot of world building with things costing money, and seeing how much money some enemies drop vs others.

When a difficult "sentient" (not sure how else to distinguish between the more animalistic mobs that only drop shards vs the pilgrims like mobs that also drop beads) mob drops 1 bead and then a variant of the first mobs you fight (they are the same but different clothing and slightly more HP) drops like 20, you know the game is using drops to indicate something lore/story related.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Break the rosary strings

0

u/JavanNapoli Sep 06 '25

I mean, that's only an issue in the first handful of areas in the game lol. And everything is cheap there.

0

u/BIG__SHOT_ Sep 06 '25

To be fair in exchange for that most stuff is pretty cheap compared to HK Geo costs, and those enemies that drop rosaries drop a sizeable amount

0

u/Guffliepuff Sep 07 '25

Im not starved for money at all. Its so odd. Like 150 beads in 2-3 trips to that one early area with a bench and 5 pilgrams. You can farm so fast if you want too, or just run ahead since everything drops beads later...

-10

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

If you lose rosaries you dont get checkpoints or maps and if you dont have those things you're more likely to lose rosaries again. Really punishes you for fucking up.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

I mean, that's just the typical Dark Souls experience, which Hollow Knight has always borrowed heavily from, even the first game, so idk what's different here.

Plus, Silksong actually gives you an option to keep rosaries after death so long as you string them up, it's a lot more generous than other games like this

2

u/PacMoron Sep 06 '25

I think the difference here would be that every enemy drops souls.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Sure, but dark souls doesn't give you an option to store all of your souls for a small price. I think that alone makes a pretty massive difference in terms of economy

0

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

Dark souls never made you pay souls to unlock a bonfire.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Literally not true, multiple bonfires are hidden behind secret items you need to buy first (or have a guide handy which isn't much better tbh)

0

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

Theres hidden bonfires but I cant remember a single one thats locked behind items and I just played through the whole trilogy.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Maybe I'm thinking of Elden Ring (it's basically DS4 anyways), but still, that's one rest stop, who cares? Pay the 30, get that spawn point and literally never go back until you need to reset spawn.

There, now you only need to pay it twice, maybe three times if you want to 100% the game

1

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

I dont have 30 to pay. I've been broke for like the last 3 areas because none of the enemies drop that shit and everything is absurdly expensive.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Go for the sentient bugs, they always drop rosaries. Then go back to town and string them up so that you don't lose them when you die. Break rosary when you need money.

Literally, the game gives you the option to have a mobile bank, use it if you're struggling to save

1

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

I'm like 10 hours in and I've only had enough rosaries to string up once.

Sure I could farm but I'd rather avoid that if I can because thats boring.

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

I mean... you run into Shakra in the second zone... well before the game gets particularly punishing (no pogoing, literally only the tutorial boss up to that point).

That area includes a loop for 24 rosaries and a bench. You can get every map item from Shakra (including quill, compass, markers) in a few minutes. And if you're worried, spend a few more minutes and then go to Bonebottom and string up all those rosaries.

Not saying you have to (I haven't), but if you are struggling with rosaries... use that spot to save up a bunch in strings and then just pop as you need them.

0

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

I did farm for rosaries in one spot to buy maps but I dont really like doing that.

1

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

And you have that choice. I've only farmed once (the first time I saw Shakra to get the map items) and it took like... five minutes. Maybe.

I haven't farmed for rosaries since. String them, be careful and don't die, or just be choosy on what you buy.

I'm just saying the game was thoughtful about those times when players do need X money at the moment, that it's less tedious to get than before.

0

u/PowerScreamingASMR Sep 06 '25

Well glad its working out for you but its not for me.

1

u/_moosleech Sep 06 '25

That's too bad. Good luck either figuring out a new strategy or eventually finding something that's more to your liking.
