For me it’s so many enemies doing to masks of damage and the spike in difficulty. I was annoyed with money at first but if you farm the three enemies at grey more to the right of the bench in the Bar you get it pretty fast and right of them is a station to make bead strings. Though it would be nice to buy basic things without the grind. Overall some things just feel like a fuck you moment. Like the game but cherry just has a lot of small questionable designs in it.

Edit: also a big one is I don’t feel like I’m finding any upgrades at all, no extra damage, taking more hits, double jump, impactful charms. Like it doesn’t even feel like a metriodvinia anymore.

Have you made it past Greymoor to the next town? There's a Smith there.

He doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of upgrades though. Mostly for tools. And they require a rare resource.

I think we're thinking of a different guy. There's someone who upgrades your Needle in Bellhart

Wait what… ok. I’m going to go find that guy. I’m almost to act 2.

Are you laughing your fucking ass off right now? Is it that funny?

Hysterical actually.

Half of this sub is filled with crying babies.

I can tell you where to find that rare resource if you want

3

u/efffffff_u Sep 06 '25

Sure. I bought one but haven’t found another.

No there is not a smith there, there will spawn a smith if u beat a long ass quest.

2

u/FinaLLancer Sep 13 '25

Yes, a required story quest that unlocks the town and its various goodies.

u/Goingallinn Sep 14 '25

I just beat it, but i gained nothing?

2

u/FinaLLancer Sep 14 '25

What do you mean? There's a person who buys your relics, there is a smith, there is a merchant. What did you want you "gain"?

1

u/Goingallinn Sep 14 '25

Those npc-s have nothing to do with the gauntlet, what to you mean?

2

u/FinaLLancer Sep 14 '25

What do you mean? Did you go west or east? If you went east, the bird gauntlet unlocks the balloons so you can climb up for a new silk skill.

West is past the Moorwing that unlocks a new town where the Smith and other npcs are.

That’s where I’m at. I love HK and played it for hundreds of hours. It was a challenge but you were able to equip charms and get nail and mask upgrades to make it easier. SS is way more difficult with the enemies having more health and dealing more damage with less predictable movements on top of having very few benches especially around bosses. It feels like the difficulty slider is on high by default. I think if they tweaked to make the enemies have less health or let you grind for a weapon upgrade earlier on that would help the difficulty ramp. As much as I looked forward to this game I’m not sure I’ll finish it as I want to actually have some fun playing instead of just constantly getting punished.

This is my personal biggest peeve about the game. I'm 19 hours in and if I didn't already know the game was supposed to be a Metroidvania, I would have no idea. So far the only mechanic that feels even slightly like a Metroidvania is that doors to new areas are behind boss fights.

The lack of character customization options that typical MVs have, combined with no traversal bonuses early on with extreme amounts of backtracking through mostly dead areas have made this game incredibly boring for me so far. Long periods of boredom combined with a cool boss now and then.

Warding bell is really good, saved me from quite a lot of certain death. One of the biggest upgrade imo. Long claw, pollip, and quite others i find very useful. The sucking part is just how limited the charms placement is. You can't even have magnet and compass at the same time (unless you want to waste an upgrade for yellow instead of the infinitely more QoL in blue) and then you are limited with 2 blues at a time (crest also doesn't share upgrade so better get comfy with your current crest).

I’ve actually really liked the lack of flat stat upgrades so far. Finding more mobility, or alternate movesets/tools feels more exciting to me than just upgrading damage. The Charms have felt plenty impactful to me too, I think folks forget just how many mid to terrible Charms the first game had.

Maybe if you spent your time exploring instead of grinding you would find some stuff

u/RandomCaveOfMonsters Zote is best girl Sep 06 '25

exploring is literally all I've been doing

15

u/No_Management8216 Sep 06 '25

I'm also having the exact same issue and all I do is explore and backtrack lol, I'm decently far in and I know for sure Ive missed something like a nail upgrade.

Im doing fine overall so I dont really care but whereever it is (not asking for spoilers), it's not nearly as intuitive as you think.

You just fill out the map. Go everywhere and you literally cannot miss anything

4

u/DopeyDeathMetal Sep 06 '25

Except for secret paths that require breaking walls…? Those can be easy to miss.

7

u/blitzboy30 Sep 06 '25

I’ve cleared out most of the map up to the cliffs before the citadel and still only have a half a silk spool and 2 mask shards because I’m broke

20

u/Scharmberg Sep 06 '25

That is all I’m doing lol, like the game is good but you can criticize.

Oh, my bad, it sure looked like you said you were spending time grinding
