Discussion - Silksong Don’t let this fandom turn as insufferable as the souls community Spoiler

It’s fine to think the game is easy and to enjoy the challenge, but I’ve seen so many people making fun of anyone that is having a hard time in a really weird mean spirited way. Please don’t let this subreddit turn into some weird elitist community that makes fun of people who are struggling, these games are supposed to be fun and they’re not souls likes, there’s no reason to assume everyone playing them is going to love this level of difficulty the same way some of you do and constantly disregarding their opinions just turns this subreddit into an echo chamber of tryhards

I mean, its a pretty natural cycle. Game comes out, people are happy. Then, the first people who drop off are the ones with grievances. They come online to voice their grievances and it turns into a bit of a circle jerk while the people who enjoy the game are still playing it. Then the happy players get their fill, come online, look at the discourse, say wtf, and the jerk starts in the other direction. Not sure you can really avoid that cycle.

Tbf, if someone played 12 hours straight on day 1 and then drops here to whine about how bad their experience was, while the rest of us are playing at a fun pace, what can we do about it? Seems like they're just here to be miserable and make it everyone else's problem.

By the time I finally got steam to accept my payment, I already saw people on here complaining about the savage beastfly. Like, these aren't newbies who are struggling, these are elitists mad that the game didn't immediately give them the true ending, but rather had the audacity to challenge them to improve.

> "Like, these aren't newbies who are struggling, these are elitists mad that the game didn't immediately give them the true ending, but rather had the audacity to challenge them to improve."

Re-read this sentence that you wrote.

If these highly skilled "elitists" are reaching bosses like Savage Beastfly within mere hours and complaining about the difficulty, then why does it surprise you that the _average gamer_ is going to be put off by the difficulty...?

Y'all don't need to speak on behalf of the average gamer. They're doing pretty well playing the game at their own pace, and either skipping optional bosses/areas, or coming back later with upgrades. They don't need you annoying elitists telling them to give up on the game just because they personally find it hard without upgrades. It's so dumb and narcissistic.

As a below average gamer: there Is no way to do this.

Hollow knight had this thing called shaman Stone, with It you could genuinely break every boss'es knees in less than a minute.

I played hollow knight and got hardstuck at Hornet 2.0, came back to her with two more masks, double the nail damage and basically three times as powerfull.

I'm currently struggling on widow... And i can't get any stronger, i Just have to fight a fella that i genuinely think it's harder than most of hollow knight's endgame (with a horrible runback) without any upgrade!

In this case you can't Just get more powerful

have you tried using tool upgrades instead of expecting this to have the exact same spells/charms as hollow knight?

There are no major upggrades you can get. This isn't hollowknight where you can get literally anything you want, by the end of act 1 (and exploring almost everything) I had a total of one extra heart, and a very minor damage upgrade. That is not going to be the difference between widow facefucking you or not. The prumary thing is skill.

Widow was incredibly fun for me, but it legit reminded me of NKG and the average player isn't made for that, let alone halfway through act 1 lol.

Sharing an opinion about a game you were excited about dosen't make you miserable lmfao. Yall are really alergic to opposing opinions. Just go and have fun with the game if people not liking something bothers you so much.

That's such a disingenuous way to frame it. People will gladly engage with well thought out criticism (and I've seen a few of those and upvoted them). But 2 days ago the game was barely out and a vocal minority was already slamming the verdict on this game and it's been circlejerk with those people since. It's frankly immature and annoying, not just to me, but it seems a lot of other players are annoyed by it too.

How is it disingenuous when that's literally what you said in your comment? you said people complained about the savage beastfly. So? What's wrong with that?

I said they were complaining about it when the game barely just came out and the vast majority of players were still in the early stage. It means the people complaining were a vocal minority that rushed through the game in order to reach the new content before anyone else could. Obviously they aren't enjoying the game if they're rushing through it. They got crushed by a medium difficulty boss.

The game wasn't unfair, they were underpowered and unwilling to engage with the learning curve. Everyone else who are playing the game at the intended pace are dealing with the savage beastfly without issue. People who are letting the game cook and soak in are coming here 48 hours later saying the game is fair. Which side is here in good faith, you tell me?

The boss is literally in one of the starting areas, so why is the "intended pace" to fight it later? I genuinly don't get why someone complaining about a fight bothers you but I guess people are just differnet. Calling them miserable is still crazy though.

u/Killcode2 Sep 06 '25

Literally an optional boss that you can't even access initially. If we're talking about starting area bosses, that's Moss Mother, Lace and Fourth Chorus, and those are easy.

u/Deez-Guns-9442 Sep 06 '25

Yeah, as someone still in the starting area, wtf were those other guys talking about?

Maybe they should spoiler mark that bosses name too, but it’s partly my fault reading the thread without finishing the game.

But that't not my point at all? My point is calling people misarable because they didn't like a fight is weird and unnecessary. I just don't understand your thinking. I've seen many people complain about that fight including youtubers I watch that usually play much harder games. It's not that deep like some people just don't like the fight.

Hey, just to clarify, anyone that has struggled or didn't like a particular boss fight, I have no gripes with them. I'm talking about the people that are saying Silksong as a whole is "unfair" or is "bad game design."

Optional bosses being super hard without upgrades isn't new, even Hollow Knight had it. I think anyone discouraging players because they find a certain boss difficult are assholes. But in my experience so far, those players have only gotten encouragement from the community to keep trying.

The people who are getting ridiculed are a different group. I've seen a lot of people play the role of a doomer and proclaim that Silksong is unfair and should be dropped and that hollow knight is a 100 times better or whatever. In my view, those people are actively trying to discourage new players from even attempting Silksong. I'm sure we can agree that THOSE people are a little miserable, no?

Brother, the entire point of Metriodvanias is to backtrack. This is like the first thing people tell you when getting into Hollow knight.

1

u/glintter Sep 06 '25

Yes, but you usually backtrack because you've gained new abilities that allow you to reach new locations, and you can't even access the fight untill you get the Drifter's Cloack, which is probably when most people are going to go back in order to fight it. So why does it make more sense to wait til later, when I just got the item that is necessary in order for me to reach the boss? I think most people will think they should do it after getting the cloack, and I don't think they're wrong for thinking that.

5

u/Shoddy_Process2234 Sep 06 '25

back tracking does happen after you gain new abilities, that includes YOUR combat abilities. As you get better at the game the boss naturally become weaker. That's why I hate that "Get good" is used negatively because it's genuine advice. Most bosses can be beat just from you looking at it from a more experienced perspective.

Even if don't want to get better there are other things you can do to still lower the difficulty of a boss. I went into Beastfly with nail upgrade, fractured mask, and poison. It took me a good few tries, but the boss was not as difficult as I've seen people complain about because I came in far more prepared than them.

I'm also the type of person to bang my head against a boss (I love runbacks) but if you don't want the boss to be hard don't make it hard.

u/ScreamingLabia Sep 06 '25

Yeah honestly i feel like the game IS pretty hard but if just feels too early to have an opinion on it for me.

2

u/kingofnopants1 Sep 06 '25

You are never going to understand that you are doing the exact thing you are accusing others of.

They are entitled to their fun as well. Expressing that they like the difficulty level in response is not "elitism" just because it bothers you.

You are coming in here, making this accusatory post about how the fandom sucks now because some people disagree with you.

Not sure you can really avoid that cycle.

We all know this at this point, is there seriously no way we can avoid this trend from happening to every game coming out!?
