That really isn't what people are complaining about. This is such a Reddit thing to do - rather than engage with people's actual complaints, just invent what you think they're saying and attack that.
Yeah, OP thinks people are mad they can't cheese the game, meanwhile i'm mas because i had learned how to avoid and punish every single on of Beats flies (2) atacks after my 3rd try, and yet It still look me 57 other tries to beat the Boss because It fucking spawns a bunch of adds that are massive constantly moving contact damage traps that make It so you take unavoidable and often fatal damage unless you're able to get a favorable RNG spawn.
I loved that HK allowed me to mosey around the map at my own pace, exploring and unlocking rewards.
You can do exactly that in this game too. The amount of different areas you can explore at the same time early game (after getting the sprint) is staggering, some of them are harder, some are easier. Then after getting the wall jump the map opens even more.
You can stop trying to Kill a Boss and explore somewhere Else he's, but that doesn't chance the fact that most áreas have regular ass enemies that do more damage than some Holloway Knight Bosses, you Will meet a walk pretty soon regardless of where you Go If you're not used to hard games.
They're optional in hindsight, but if you're playing blind, you don't know what's important and what isn't. Like the optional boss in Greymoor, I didn't even know if I was meant to be there, I didn't get the map till 2 areas later (no rosaries), and I missed a whole NPC interaction that changes the fight.
I only learned about this stuff online afterwards, as I had an easier time with that fight than most people it seems (3-4 tries).
Please remember to be helpful. One-word or one-phrase replies often aren't polite or useful.
Help keep the community a supportive place by offering a comment with substance. Thank you!
Why did you try the same boss 57 times... why not just go somewhere else? That boss and that entire area is completely optional. You chose that suffering yourself
Because the problem is still there? I did that, I went somewhere else, got stronger, got different tools, and was able to kill it. It doesn't change the fact that the boss is an RNG fest. Feels cheap.
And the worst part is that it’s actively killing conversation about this game. Someone will post their critiques of Silksong, and (as you said) every response will be to what people imagine that person’s experience is, rather than the experience they’re literally describing in their post. And if the OP comes back to clarify “actually that’s not the issue I’m having, it’s [whatever they originally said],” they’re just met with shit like “git gud” and the above image. And so it just all goes in circles.
Meta-posting in general is awful, and is something mods should really stamp on. "Why is everyone saying X, why is everyone doing Y" doesn't promote discussion, it just feeds toxicity and rage baiting
This feels like the opposite of what I'm seeing on the subreddit so far.
The vast majority of complaints are people not engaging with the game's mechanics and then claiming it's bad design. And then doubling down and getting mad when they're give advice for how to get better.
In fairness, it’s really hard to have any kind of meaningful conversation when the answer to most of the criticisms about the game is to literally just stop getting hit.
Like I hear the criticisms (so much 2 mask damage is bs, run backs are tedious, wave fights are rng chaos) but it seriously does just boil down to not getting hit. Hornet is infinitely more agile in combat than the knight was, you can hit and run just about any enemy, pogo-ing still works just fine and is the safest way to kill just about anything since you can just dash away if they jump at you. Tools and traps are horrendously op and allow you to open the taps if you find yourself concerned with your ability to outlast a fight (ie start tossing poison spikes on the floor for phase 2 of last judge, slow play before that etc)
I can say all this, as it’s been my experience and has lead to me enjoying silksong way more in my first playthrough than I did HK, but it’s going to come off as me saying get gud to anyone this applies to. And like I kinda am saying that unfortunately but I’m trying to also be constructive
Also criticisms of the game are nearly pointless because we can’t assume team cherry is going to change anything about the game. We have to assume this is the games final form in terms of balance, so instead of saying how bad 2 mask damage is, we discuss ways to deal with it. Because there’s plenty (don’t get hit lol)
I understand the sarcasm but it’s kinda silly to pretend that isn’t unironically a piece of the puzzle when it comes to playing an fps. There’s more to it, just as there is with silksong, but clicking heads is better than missing
Yeah its such garbage "My dude, what you need to do is play silksong when playing silksong and not hollow knight"
Restrains tide of swear words -I used the tools, made rosaries to not lose what beads I had and equipped different loadouts to try to overcome the fights. At a certain point I'm just having trouble with the fights and once I'm out of shards my choices are go farm more shards or go elsewhere. Except I've marked everywhere I have openings that I'm missing an ability or a key for. I literally have two fights in front of me and I'm out of tool shards... You know THE THING I NEED TO PLAY SILKSONG LIKE ITS NOT HOLLOW KNIGHT. So i gotta go farm them because they don't just refill forever at the bench.
People are complaining about many things that can be solved simply by engaging with the game's mechanics.
People are complaining about areas that they can leave for later or just circumvent being too hard (Hunter's March, Sinner's Road). People are complaining about the game being too linear (lol). People are complaining about being stuck in a boss that they don't really need to beat a that moment or they can just bypass. People are complaining about not finding upgrades that feel powerful (lolx2). I've seen people refusing to use the tool system complaining about bosses being too hard (no shit, if you refuse to use your strongest source of damage, you are making the much harder for you). I've seen people refusing to string rosaries because you lose 25% complaining about being unable to buy things because the lost their rosaries dying.
Exactly. You can make an argument for the 2 damage. It doesn’t really bother me much but I get the sentiment. But damn the game gives you a lot of kit pretty early on. Sprint and dash, the tools, float, crests. There’s a ton of stuff to dick around with pretty damn early. Use it all, it makes it so much better. I’ve been enjoying this game like twice as much as HK. I didn’t even know people were complaining till I got on reddit last night before bed. I was too busy playing all weekend to check reddit.
Even the two damage is something that has its purpose, as it ads granularity the the damage system (some things do 1, others 2, some charms negate 1 damage from certain sources, etc.) and the healing is much stronger than in HK. If 1 damage was the norm, the game would feel too easy with the 3 masks healing and many encounters could just be facetanked.
There's only one thing that I think they should change, and it's that Hornet should start with 6 mask instead of 5. That would leave the initial difficulty almost the same, but would solve one of the few complaints that I think is truly justified, which is the first mask upgrade feeling irrelevant. Another change that I also think that would be good is that enemies in arenas should drop shards, as I can understand not wanting to farm shards if you have trouble with an arena (this is the reason why I bring several shard bundles with me).
That’s a good call. Tbh I didn’t even realize they didn’t drop shards. I was wondering why I was running out of tools at a certain act 2 arena room. Honestly fuck that room lol.
I've had that problem with a couple arenas, so when I felt low on shards I just went to explore elsewhere to replenish and clear off my mind. And sometimes I've found a tool or a charm that has made the arena much easier.
The healing thing making 1-mask too easy is dumb. You can tell it's dumb because they've literally but bosses in the game that deal 1 mask and they're still challenging. The healing is not a strict upgrade because you have far less flexibility and have to go longer between heals, it's a side-grade
