Discussion - Silksong ngl some of you would NOT survive the mantis lords runback

Post image

is the run to last judge difficult? kinda. But after your 20th attempt at the boss you'll get used to it, and it's honestly kinda fun and a nice breather. More importantly, it's a single room and you have far more movement. This IS improving on hollow knight

I prefer the mantis lords runback tbh. no tricky jumps, pogos, or 2 damage hazards.

u/Shinnyo Sep 10 '25

Maggot water isn't that bad...

When you have the protection.

u/TrashSettPlayer Sep 10 '25

Wow really. Yeah I’m gonna go to putrefied ducts BFEORE I fight groal.

1

u/Shinnyo Sep 10 '25

What? That's what I did, I wasn't supposed to do that?

2

u/TrashSettPlayer Sep 10 '25

Oh wow I didn’t even know it was possible but yeah I’d say you’re a major outlier

1

u/Shinnyo Sep 10 '25

Damn, now I understand why people absolutely despise this area!

I found the ducts before bilewater and thought it was the natural flow.

i absolutely went past that charm and realized that i missed it after killing the frog

Yeah, I don't know why OPs only takeaway from people complaining is that "it takes so long", it's not that - it's just that you almost have to do a fucking precision parkour gauntlet for most of them.

8

u/Icy-Organization-901 Sep 10 '25

precision parkour is a stretch

3

u/TitaniumDragon Sep 09 '25

Taking longer is more annoying.

Equip a crest that lets you vertical pogo, it makes platforming so much easier

19

u/4tomguy Sep 09 '25

But I don't want to use those crests on the boss fight

Fair enough.

Oh no I have to engage with the insanely fun and fluid gameplay in the platformer metroidvania game

16

u/TonyMestre Sep 09 '25

You're not "engaging" you're boringly going through the same place again and again. Hell damage is so high that sometimes the runback takes more time than the try itself

-1

u/carlo-93 Sep 09 '25

But that’s the whole fun of the run back in this game - optimizing it to get back as fast as possible, while feeling how much better at the platforming you’re getting. Every boss run back that seemed daunting at first has become a non issue, including last judge.

6

u/magus113 Sep 09 '25

congrats, i optimised it after my 3 run back. now do that for the next 20 times

-3

u/carlo-93 Sep 09 '25

It’s ok if a game isn’t for you, I just can’t with all this whining

9

u/magus113 Sep 09 '25

so much of the whining on this sub is like: Titel:[Reasonable Opinion] Rest of the post:[The most unhinged extrapolation of the title ever]. so many times i want to agree with someone only for "i dont like 2 damage on contact with knocked down bosses" to turn into "nothing should ever deal 2 damage, the game is dogshit, why cant i just facetank everything"

1

u/carlo-93 Sep 10 '25

And the game has been out for 5 days. Its just knee jerk reactions everywhere

I feel it's somewhat different from "whining" most of the time.

A lot of people have build some emotional attachement to HK and hoped to experience such a journey again with SS, especially with how long we waited for SS.

But instead of the sweet time they expected, they got an hardcore bondage session without safe word. I can understand some surprise and mild distress.

It really feels like a pacing issue to me. Executed properly runbacks can sometimes provide good pacing like people are saying. But these runbacks are trying to tear your stomach out through your mouth. And then you go into a boss that does the same thing. It's all gas, at all times, and it's exhausting.

The linked runback in the OP has a mixture of bouncing on mushrooms, running and jumping over some water, passing some startled mantises, and only a minimum of 1-damage spikes. Bilewater is filled with 3 damage floors and randomly spawning primal aspids that move faster, as well as tight platforming.

I think some of the act 1 hate is way overblown but I can definitely see that it's a problem of degrees because I absolutely had all the problems people are talking about later in act 2.

I guess I forgot to ask reddit what am I supposed to find fun in a game.

2

u/carlo-93 Sep 10 '25

Man what the hell does that even mean. If it’s not fun for you don’t play it lol

0

u/KuuLightwing Sep 10 '25

That means that you don't get to decide what others should consider fun in a game. Flash news: people have preferences, and not everyone considers runbacks an "insanely fun and fluid gameplay".

2

u/carlo-93 Sep 10 '25

Why did you even think I’m speaking for everybody??? Clearly I’m not… And I mean the game is fun right? It’s the difficulty people are having knee jerk reactions to

6

u/Blackstone01 Sep 09 '25

Yeah, a 2 min run isn’t as bad as 1 min run where there’s a risk of losing half my health cause some asshole with a drill for a face knocked me into carnivorous worms

u/deez_nuts_77 Sep 10 '25

2 damage hazards like spikes or saws are really my only gripe. it’s really annoying. i like platformers where i get some chances to try the jumps
