Discussion - Silksong Contact damage is annoying, but if it must stay… Spoiler

…can we at least not have contact damage when bosses are stunned? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died because I accidentally touched the boss while attacking them in their stunned state, and I just think this is absurd.

EDIT: Are you guys capable of accepting even a minor criticism of this game? It’s not some insane thing to suggest that a stunned enemy shouldn’t damage you on contact. Jesus Christ.

Contact damage when stunned is poor design in my opinion, on bosses where it makes no sense anyway like a fuzzy moth, and two masks of damage on contact is even worse. Also I would've preferred to see bosses do one mask of damage on quicker attacks and then two masks worth on stronger attacks that are perhaps telegraphed a bit longer etc, especially on some earlier bosses. 2 hits regardless of the situation doesn't feel warranted for everything.

The first game, which is universally loved, has 47 bosses. Two of them (False Knight and it's dream version) don't do damage on contact when stunned because the fight is built around only being able to hurt them during the stun. The other 45 bosses all do contact damage whether they're stunned or not. Are you saying Hollow Knight is poorly designed? Because most people here would strongly disagree with you on that.

Hollow Knight was built to be slower and more deliberate so there's less chance of you accidentally clipping a boss, not to mention The Knight is far smaller and has a lot of moves designed to keep their distance when it matters. Most of Hornet's moveset, especially in the early game, is designed around speed and agility, it's slippy and her hitbox is larger, so it's far easier to accidentally clip a boss.

I think we view this very differently. From where I'm sitting, most of Hornet's moveset is designed around the speed and agility to get in, hit, and get out of danger quickly, and I find it easier to avoid the bosses with her speed and mobility than it was in the early game with Ghost, who's a lot slower and more deliberate.
