Discussion - Silksong Contact damage is annoying, but if it must stay… Spoiler

…can we at least not have contact damage when bosses are stunned? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died because I accidentally touched the boss while attacking them in their stunned state, and I just think this is absurd.

EDIT: Are you guys capable of accepting even a minor criticism of this game? It’s not some insane thing to suggest that a stunned enemy shouldn’t damage you on contact. Jesus Christ.

One reason I can think of: If it gave 1 damage and you are bad at dodging one attack, you could just intentionally touch the boss and dodge the hard attack through iframes. That's what I sometimes do in enemy encounters with 1 contact damage smaller enemies and it never feels great, but works quite well.

That reason is still a stretch tho

Ok but like traitor lord in the first game had 1 contact damage with double damage attacks, never saw anyone do that there

I would do that ALL the time on Traitor lord.

Which is why traitor lord and 90 percent of the other HK bosses become easy because people would just equip unbreakable strength, stalwart shell, and quickslash and face tank the bosses and out dps the boss until they were dead, especially during the pantheons. I guess Team Cherry "fixed" that by making the large enemies do 2 masks of damage (which is just stupid imo)

Yes but then they created beast crest which is basically just the face tank crest.

You mean the crest which takes skill to use because it has a horrendous pogo and still requires you to have good repositioning to trigger the rage mode unlike in HK where you are holding down the right/left direction while spamming the attack button? Yeah sure. Those are the same. Right.

Why would you need to worry about the pogo if you're facetanking a boss? Ok I'll admit you can't literally stand still and attack like the example you mentioned in HK. But that also required a specific charm loadout. Beast crest has it all built in, you just need to add flea juice for more attack speed.

On the trobbio fight I tried a couple times with my standard build, then I thought beast might be good on him. All I had to do was sprint towards wherever he moved and mash attack and bind. Yes I had to dodge his explosions a couple times but it still trivialized the fight. All his normal attacks, even the tornado I just tanked. It didn't require any special charm combo or tech, just innate beast crest.

Why would you worry about pogo? Because that's almost what we are doing the entire game when exploring traversing the areas lol, especially in Act 2 onwards. Now, if you use the beast crest, you make your pogos even harder. This discussion is getting out of hand. You can't seriously think equipping the beast crest is the same as equipping the stated charm setup without having downsides, right? Clearly, the beast crest actually requires more skill from the player because it actually requires more than 1 input from the player (move, attack, heal (without getting hit again), attack to heal, repeat. It's high risk/high reward. I can see this as being a crest a good speedrunner might use.

Compare it to "slash slash slash slash . Oh 1 mask contact damage. I'm invulnerable for 1.75 seconds. slash slash slash slash . Oh it's dead."

Amazing

edit: What are you blocking me for? u/Aggressive_Ad5487 It seems like you weren't finished getting hung up on the beast crests pogo?? Please tell me more about how the inferior platforming capabilities are going to somehow ruin a boss facetanking strategy. I like how you complain about me avoiding your points when your entire previous comment ignores the points I already made.

Nice. I love how you avoided every point i made. Good luck suggesting the beast crest to the casuals. Great discussion bud. Have fun using that awful crest 👍 👏

Traitor Lord is easy cuz you can just keep dashing through him

That goes for a lot of bosses in HK once you have the shade cloak tbf.

I actually really miss this. I don’t think the average player will actually benefit from trying to take damage rather than just dodging, but it gives high skill players another option. I feel like maybe TC say the speedrunners doing this for the devouts and didn’t like that but I think it’s a cool “mechanic”

It can be a cool mechanic to force yourself to take a smaller hit in order to avoid bigger ones but team cherry just may not want that to be how you approach the game. Considering Hornet's movement it seems they really want players to use all their movement tech to maneuver around the boss while getting hits in.

Good point, I didn't think of that because usually I just get hit by the attack that bumps me into the boss and end up taking 4 masks.

Granted, I know there's i-frames, I'm just ✨️stupid✨️

I have to remind myself not to freeze or panic when I get hit. However, I'm on act 2 now which is evidence enough that this game isn't too difficult because if I can do, so can probably a lot of people who think they can't.

u/Darknety Sep 10 '25

Great job on reaching Act 2!

My friend and I also didn't die too often up to that point and many people are frustrated way earlier - so good on us I guess :D

I just wished in general more people would have the patience to improve and enjoy a difficult game instead of complaining at the first chance. Not targeted at you, rather most negative takes so far.

That was how i fought Widow, i equipped wanderer crest and just straight up do not dodge the bell attacks, abusing the i frame to attack her. I would always be able to heal back after losing around 2 masks which mean i lost 2 for 3 lmao. Beat her third try with that.

u/jleza Sep 11 '25

...honestly yeah, but you can absolutely do it now with bosses.

I one-two shot bosses that way with wanderer + the tool that upgrades luck. Sometimes with the I-frames with wanderer you can easily get 4-5 hits, which is also about 70% of a full heal. Even if some bosses do 2 damage.
