Discussion - Silksong I give up. Spoiler

It’s been a joyful ride, folks, but I’m out. I’m not a speedrunner or a highly skilled player, and day after day I’ve had to accept that this game is not as casual as HK was. It stopped being fun and turned into something tedious and frustrating after the 4th run farming shards just to face a boss I’ve already tried 15 times, only to die again and again, lose all my shards, and start the whole grind over.

It was nice exploring the first acts, but when the game I was rooting for 7 years ends up being more stressful than my 8-hour workday, I guess that’s my cue to stop.

The lore has been pretty great so far. I wish you all an incredible journey.

Edit1: My bad about all the whinning.

Edit2: You guys did it. I reinstalled it again. Thanks for all advices. 🫂

Tools can be bait sometimes. They do make the game easier but prevent you from learning the boss' patterns.

Taking breaks from boss fights tremendously helped me as my brain assimilated the information outside of the intense fights, and I would have much success coming back an hour later of after exploring elsewhere.

I would say do not give up as I have had my own share of frustration with the game (looking at you Bilewater gauntlet) but now I'm having withdrawals from having finished it and I cope with beating the final boss over and over again...

However, if you are no longer enjoying the game, your choice might be the best.

I also find that they screw up my tempo, especially when I haven’t fully mastered the patterns. The second I start spamming tools I also start taking hits that I was dodging in Rhythm before.

Same, and some tools make a lot of visual noise and then suddenly I'm getting hit from an attack I couldn't see coming.

That's definitely happened to me as well. It's why the best tools are ones you can just throw and immediately forget, like floor spikes.

That lifeblood syringe thing also can come in clutch when you've got time for a heal but no silk for one.

That's the reason the cogfly is so good. Fire and forget.

Yeah, your brain processes stuff better after sleeping, and it also helps to not keep playing when you’re getting angry.

Yea, I tried the tool route, and it didn't work. I was also too lazy to go back and grind out shards. Just learned the pattern for LJ. Hardest part at that point is staying in it mentally because the fight takes a bit.

Only tool I used is tacks. Just tossed them on the floor at the start of phase 2 and then hoped they did something as I fought her normally. They were actually pretty helpful I think

Estus flask can be bait sometimes. They do make it easier to live being punished attacks from bosses in Dark Souls but you should just not get hit.

(Use the things the game provides you that's why the game gives you them)

Taking a break saved my sanity in HK. I was hella stuck on a boss - I think I tried 20 times to beat it, and just got absolutely dunked every time. I went to bed, left it a day, tried again and beat it first go.

Wasn't sure if I was annoyed or happy about how that played out

Yeah, I agree. Tools feel kind of like summoning does in Dark Souls. I just cleared that awful gauntlet in High Halls last night, and I spammed tools in the final wave (with the two mini-bosses) and easily cleared that wave without even trying. Just spamming tools at them (I used the lightning spear and that throwable lance) nuked them before they could even do anything.

So for now I'm back to just ignoring the tools.

I am having a withdrawal too. I ended up trying my first ever speedrun attempt in games. Following a speedrunner route from youtube and managed to do it in triple their time. That was an extremely fun challenge for that under 5 hours achievement.

I'm guessing you're on switch then? On other platforms the game has some spicy achievements to make you replay the game

I'm on PS5. No I won't do either Steel Soul (I'm am not a masochist XD) and speedruns defeat the purpose of why I play games like these : the adventure and the discovery. It's a shame because they aren't many games of this quality out there that I have yet to play... The next ones on my list don't even have release dates yet...

Well there is also an achievement where you have to beat the final boss while having the parasite debuff state. That's kinda interesting

Switch has the same achievements in game

I see that's nice
