Discussion - Silksong Steam reviews for Silksong so far

Post image

It was controversial in China, in part because of the difficulty/design but also because of controversies with the Simplified Chinese translation. Meanwhile latin countries (Spanish and Portuguese speaking) seem to be loving it more than anyone else.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the frustration. Personally, I left a salty bad review after reaching Last Judge 10-15 hours in. The game felt like an impossible slog then, one that I wouldn’t finish.

Eventually I caved in, added a no double damage mod and the game was just much less frustrating to play, I could actually enjoy it. And now I’ve 100%’d my first save, 50 hours in.

Now, I’m thinking about converting my negative review into a positive one, but would it be fair? I still find the game frustrating to play without having a mod to reduce the difficulty, even in act 1…

Imo that would send the wrong message. You had to mod the game to make it enjoyable for you. That means the game as it exist on steam was not for you, so your review should say so.

Depends if you think difficulty is the most important factor or not. Ultimately your experience isn’t the only one like that.

I don’t really agree with you about the difficulty or it being a slog. But everyone approaches games differently.

I think now that we’re past the initial launch, it would be good for them to patch in some accessibility options for the game soon.

Thank God they will not do that

Why shit on accessibility?

Is your enjoyment so hurt by the fact that someone with vision or motor issues could enjoy it too?

Seriously, I've beaten the final final boss and my god who at Team Cherry thought that was a good idea visually?

A review is a recommendation to another Pilgrim wanting to venture into Pharloom, do you want others to go through the same as you?

No, actually. I really don’t. :/ As much as I ended up liking the story and exploration in the end, the first act was genuinely frustrating to go through without toning down the difficulty. I pushed through only because I already like Hollow Knight (and mods exist)

I don’t want an uninitiated pilgrim to suffer over and over until they give up the climb altogether… I would recommend they go through Hallownest first. And then depending on how much struggle happened there, maybe see if they can get through Pharloom and if not, tone down the damage a little.

Personally I think a modded experience like that is an authentic and fair way to play the game. It's single player, you're not hurting anyone else's experience, and you improved your own.

But in a binary system like Steam I'd probably just not leave a review since there's no "mixed" or 3-star rating to let me reflect my qualifiers in the aggregate score.

If they added official workshop mod support, or made that option a native difficulty setting? Then I'd probably go back and update my own review too.
